Article about BO2 - 8 Player Zombies, will run off MP engine

Recommended Posts

- As you can see from this article, zombies will run off the MP engine meaning more zombies can spawn and more people can play in a game. "The fan-favourite mode will make a return, only this time it's running in the multiplayer engine. That means there will be a big upsurge in numbers when it comes to Black Ops 2's undead sub-game: the multiplayer engine can throw around twice as many shambling corpses at once, and it can handle a co-op tally double that of Black Ops 1's." Look on page 5 for this info.

- Also, that leaked photo of the MP7 does in fact LOOK REAL. Look at the photo on page 2 of the guy playing MP. He's playing in the same level AND it has the same HUD.

The fan-favourite mode will make a return, only this time it's running in the multiplayer engine. That means there will be a big upsurge in numbers when it comes to Black Ops 2's undead sub-game: the multiplayer engine can throw around twice as many shambling corpses at once, and it can handle a co-op tally double that of Black Ops 1's.

To maximise this increase Treyarch is promising new modes too. It's stopping short of specifics for now but say you can expect team games of some sort to feature in what's sure to be the most hectic take on the mode yet.

Last year, millions of people ended up buying the Black Ops 1 zombie-specific Rezurrection pack and Treyarch continue to be surprised and amazed by the demand for what was once little more that a whimsical bonus throwaway. Now that there's tangible evidence of that hunger in the form of actual sales figures, Treyarch have given their zombie team free reign to do pretty much whatever it wants with the mode, regardless of the direction the campaign is headed in. And given that Black Ops saw JFK battling undead forces in the Pentagon, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Freddy Kruger fighting George Romero in Siberia, and a zombie outbreak on the moon, our minds boggle at what could be in store next. Start daydreaming

I'm stoked! Pretty much confirms all my expectations

Nice I was about to post this. I think what it means by game modes is one like Classic Zombies. Classic Zombies has the zombies we know and love 4 player co op and everything. The second game mode which what they say will have teams is like 4 or 7 players on each team sectioned of in the center. So the teams have there own sides and whichever team has all the players downed loose. Or you can have point based games such as whichever team gets to 10000 points wins stuff like that. The other game mode could be like more players like 7 or 8 players in one game. Keep in mine this will mean the maps will be TEN TIMES AS BIG AS LAST TIME. I mean there are so many possibilities but remember there will for sure be a classic zombies mode 4 players like it was. I am dying to see what these game modes can be im hoping this will mean no more host migration connection failure type errors. It will run much more smoothly and a lot more fun. Cant wait for bigger, badder, better, scarier zombie maps.

What excites me is that Treyarch gave the Zombie team free reign to do as they wish with it. They don't have to follow the campaign at all. They can do what they want. This means that while BOII may be in the future, we could easily be playing in WWII time.

I am happy Zombies will be getting this upgrade, but wouldn't it lag?

Somehow this is making me think that they won't have WaW or BO maps now. I mean, how can they expect 8 people and about 50 zombies to fit into Nacht der Untoten? Or the elevator in "Five"?

I dunno if I'll be happy or not if they included the old maps though. :/

I personally think 8 players is too much for Zombies. They should have kept it at 4. As a result of the upgrade the game mode will lose that feel of isolation, and it will also lower the necessity for team cooperation and communication. I hope they still have a matchmaking playlist for 4-players as well as 8.

I think the best news out of Zombies moving to the multiplayer engine is HOST MIGRATION

I would love if they added this feature, especially if they add 8 player co-op zombies.

Lag! I BANISH YOU FROM THIS LAND!

Awesome! The multiplayer engine has better connection support, so I can finally move up from Nikolai!

(still waiting for confirmation. ;) )

I like the idea in theory....

But what about the characters? we have the four we all know and love, who are going to be the new four?

Dont get me wrong, I am as stoked as anyone, but I need Alpha to make a thread on who these new four may be....

Edit: and tankeo, you should keep the takeo banner just cuz it matches your name so well...

or get Dempsey ;) :D

1.Mason, Hudson, Reznov, Woods

3. COTD Crew

4. All New crew introduced in after campaign Z Easter Egg map.

5. The original Marines in Veruckt & Nacht

I think the original four and Mason, Hudson, Reznov, and Woods is the most realistic now that i think about it...

And Tankeo, if i were you i would do the same, just make sure people know that you HAVE the ability to be a Richtofen, but Dempsey looks cooler

They said there would be multiple game-modes.

To me this means Classic Mode, so the Zombies we know and love. 4 people, a 24 zombie cap maybe, just everything now. I see the story playing out in this.

Than I see several other modes with the 8 players and extra zombies. I don't see this mode/s advancing the story at all, and are just used to play on the map and have fun.

Oh my god, I just thought about doing the Shangri-La Easter Egg with 8 people. :o

*shivers* No way..

Before people get angry, consider that 8 players could be a completely different mode, and that the "classic" 4 player co-op will likely stay the "standard" mode

Probably. This is how I see it.

Zombies

4 player - regular zombies

8 player - they'd release a seperate map for this, probably with different characters. And probably have the "different game modes" on said 8-player maps.

Does the multiplayer lag?

Well, yes, it does. But here's the difference: people complain that lag causes you to lose one-on-one gunfights, not gun vs zombie, which you will win 999/1000 times.

So the small lag seen in multiplayer will not affect you that much.

Just thought I'd put that out there. :D

I have enough trouble finding three other randoms, or three solid randoms to execute similar game plan. So instead of 4 people running their own trains we can now have 8 people running their own trains?

I am skeptical until the release or more info.

Yeah And when they made black ops 1 they had like only 6 GB's of use but now like in 2011 they upgraded it to 8 GBs So more space.

They could put the game on two discs :P. I would love to see a CoD game actually take advantage of the PS3's Bluray capacity.

8 players is only SPECULATION. some website hears its going to use MP engine and makes up the number of players as 8 ...

We have no idea and people are commenting as if this is confirmed!

I hope this means more stat tracking or even a levelling/ prestige system. Imagine having zombie callsigns and zombie prestige/rewards!

Once again we will just have to wait and see.

Hm, I'm really sceptical about 8 people zombies. I mean, wouldn't it be too much chaos ? (with 4 people it is already sometimes with 10 year old kids...).

Besides if they make the maps bigger and you're only playing to 3, wouldn't it also bother the game ?

I really hope this time they make different zombies modes. For example Solo, 2-4 players, 5-8 players, [email protected] box, BO box or BO2 box...

Does that mean 8 people in one game? Call me a downer, but i think that might be a little too many in one game...but im happy therell be double zombies :)

This alternate may give the player more of an opportunity to explore the storyline, these maps may not tie into the classic modes (if it remains) but it will tie in somewhere, it could be a way of showing other events happening, like how five and ascension happened at exactly the same time. And with larger maps, means more better easter eggs - hopefully though, just radios, little notes, pictures, and stuff. I preferred discovering things that way, Der Riese is the only map I play on Black Ops. The only one that seems to offer a challenge, along with five. I personally would love see a map like five, on a large scale with three levels. That would be a challenge, and if they incorporate enclosed spaces, wide open spaces.

I will like it a lot.

I also second a map without perks and stuff, that gives us more of a challenge.

And finally makes the zombies like the ones from verruckt, that way less trains. More running your life, trying to survive.
