OLD SAINT MARY'S CATHEDRALs

San Francisco, California USA

Old Saint Mary's was built as the First cathedral of the Archdiocese of San Francisco. First cathedral in California built expressing purpose of serving as a cathedral. It is used until 1891. Materials came from both East and West, as later did its parishioners. Granite was used around the base of the structure to deflect rainwater and for other trim. It was quarried in China and brought across the Pacific in Precut blocks. Bricks minted in New England for the outer walls came around Cape Horn as ship ballast. Locally quarried sandstone was use for the foundation, the clock trim and the main entrance. Lumber for beams, floors and other interior work, was also obtained locally.

It would be burnt down by a arsnst and was replaced in 1891 by the First Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption.

workers wrapping up the details where Programs of education and improvement were initiated.

-A temperance and benevolent society offered its members health insurance, death benefits and even disability benefits. A library and lecture association were established.

-neighboring streets were decaying and full of unsavory characters and criminal activity.

- There is a need for a larger space due to the growing number of Catholics in the area.

is defined as: a church territorial unit constituting a division of a diocese. A parish is under the pastoral care and clerical jurisdiction of a parish priest, who might be assisted by one or curates, and who operates from a parish church. Historically, a parish often covered the same geographic area and shared the same name as a manor.

By extension the term parish refers not only to the territorial unit but to the people of its community or congregation as well as to church property within it. This church property was technically in the ownership of the parish priest, vested in him on his institution to that parish.

Under the clock it says:

"Son, Observe the Time and Fly from Evil" (Ecclesiasticus 4:23).

This would be used as a lure for men hanging around the brothels, because the would have to look at the church for the time and feel some kind of guilt for there actitons.

Emperor Norton I

1819-1880

Born in Scotland, February 4, 1819

Self-proclaimed Imperial Majesty Emperor Norton I arrives and is honored by the citizens of San Francisco for his "order" that the United States Congress be destroyed by a matter of force.

In 1939, E Clampus Vitus placed a plaque on the Transbay Terminal of the San Francisco Bay Bridge commemorating Emperor Norton's "The bridge will be built" proclamation.

Most of all for relentlessly suggestinga bridge and a tunnel to be built benithe San Francisco Bay.

Decree by Norton I that a suspension bridge be built as soon as convenient between Oakland Point and Goat Island, and then on to San Francisco.

- In that same year He claims to be "Emperor of these United States" and also "Protector of Mexico".

Norton I ordered a survey to determine if a bridge or tunnel would be the best possible means to connect Oakland and San Francisco. He also ordered the arrest of the Board of Supervisors for ignoring his decrees.

David Belasco made his stage debut at the Metropolitan Theatre playing Emperor Norton in the playThe Gold Demon[/spoilers].

Norton collapsed and died slowly in front of Old St. Mary's Church. His obituary was written by,

San Francisco Chronicle.

Le Roi est Mort

("The King is Dead").

"In a tone tinged with sadness, the article respectfully reported that, "On the reeking pavement, in the darkness of a moon-less night under the dripping rain..., Norton I, by the grace of God, Emperor of the United States and Protector of Mexico, departed this life"Norton was buried in the Masonic Cemetery, at the expense of the City of San Francisco.

His funeral cortege was two miles long; 10,000 - 30,000 people attended his funeral, and the day was marked by a total Eclipse of The Sun, viewable from San Francisco at just after 4pm. He left nothing of value behind but has never been forgotten. In 1934, he was reburied in the Woodlawn cemetery and a century after his death ceremonies of remembrance were held in his honour by the people of San Francisco.

Emperor Norton I reburied in Woodlawn Cemetery by citizens of San Francisco.

FUN FACT

January 1980, ceremonies were conducted in San Francisco to honor the 100th anniversary of the 1st "Emperor of The United States." Promoting a bridge between San Francisco and Oakland were commemorated on December 14, 2004, when after a campaign by local cartoonist Phil Frank, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors approved a resolution to name the new span of the San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge after Norton. The proposal needed approval by the City of Oakland and state authorities before it could be ratified. However, Oakland City Council expressed disapproval, and the resolution went no further.

Perfect a symbol of democratic freedom is a threat to the authority of a leader. Its an insalt to monarchy. would have been killed. Emperor Norton teaches that you don't need money, influence, or sanity to be valuable member of society.

We learn that society will respect those

Maybe that could be the reason a lot follow Edward Richtofen because he is quite the character!

The Bell We Hear

Theres a Bell Chime we hear on the Nuketown tower and the Golden Gate Bridge.

Its been shown the most by Treyarch guys That Bell sound is from that Tower.

Original bell at Old St. Mary's was replaced with an electronic chime in the 1970s.

For decades it stood strong on a wooden platform outside the rebuilt church.

SO this leads me to beiieve that The sound is being transmitted after either die by electric chair and or the electricity caused by the storm.

Our Plane is taken down by lightening

Definition of Optical Communication:

technology that uses light propagating in free space to transmit data for telecommunications or computer networking. "Free space" means air, outer space, vacuum, or something similar. This contrasts with using solids such as optical fiber cable or an optical transmission line. The technology is useful where the physical connections are impractical due to high costs or other considerations.

Bell established Volta Laboratory in Washington, DC. Bell considered it his most important invention. The device allowed for the transmission of sound on a beam of light. On June 3, 1880, Bell conducted the world's first wireless telephone transmission between two buildings, some 213 meters apart

GRAHAM BELL

If you dont know already Graham Bell invented the Telephone.

At the age of 19, he wrote a report on his work and sent it to philologist Alexander Ellis, a colleague of his father (who would later be portrayed as Professor Henry Higgins in Pygmalion). Ellis immediately wrote back indicating that the experiments were similar to existing work in Germany, and also lent Aleck a copy of Hermann von Helmholtz's work, The Sensations of Tone as a Physiological Basis for the Theory of Music.

Positive Pygmalion Effect makes you a brilliant star while the negative ensures a complete villain! They both create wonders almost from nothing!

This is the Golden Gate but in the background you see the Oakland Bay Bridge as well

(San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge)

Joseph Strauss wrote this poem when he finished the Golden Gate bridge,

It makes me think of a quote in Transit....

MAXIS:Excellent! Now we can continue our other tasks!

-sshshshssh-

The Mighty Task is Done

At last the mighty task is done;

Resplendent in the western sun

The bridge looms mountain high;

Its Titan piers grip ocean floor,

Its great steel arms link shore with shore,

Its towers pierce the sky.

On its broad decks in rightful pride,

The world in swift parade shall ride,

Throughout all time to be;

Beneath, fleet ships from every port,

Vast land-locked Bay, historic fort,

And dwarfing all--the sea.

Launched 'midst a thousand hopes and fears

Damned by a thousand hostile seers

Yet ne'er its course was stayed

But ask of those who met the foe,

Who stood alone when faith was low

Ask them the price they paid.

Ask of the steel, each strut and wire,

Ask of the searching, purging fire

That marked their natal hour;

Ask of the mind, the hand, the heart,

Ask of each single stalwart part

What gave it force and power.

An honored cause and nobly fought,

And that which they so bravely wrought

Now glorifies their deed;

No selfish urge shall stain its life,

Nor envy, greed, intrigue, nor strife,

Nor false, ignoble creed.

High overhead its lights shall gleam,

Far, far below life's restless stream

Unceasingly shall flow;

For this was spun its lithe fine form

To fear not war, not time, not storm,

For Fate had meant it so.

The idea of a bridge linking San Francisco with the cities of Oakland, Berkeley, and Alameda can be traced to 1850 when San Francisco newspaper editor William Walker proposed construction of a causeway, similar to the 2,000-foot Clay Street wharf. Later, railroad executives who had built the western portion of the transcontinental railroad that was completed in 1869 considered the idea.

A lot of information being gathered here, but thought out very well. It's really hard to determine what to read when you stack 6 of your posts one after the others. Great work here, friendo. I always wondered why we kept hearing a bell sound in Nuketown and Mob of the Dead. I refuse to believe that it was just a re-used sound. ;)

Thanks Infest I will break each down in there own individual segment next. First I bring you guys an outline/overview.

Now the fun begins!

Fated Im right with you and Die Glocke shall Coinside with Die Bismark. It shall be glorious they all happen at the same time. You see The ship was named after Prussian Anti-Catholic Ottmen Von Bismark.

He was such a fierce ruler

Here is the ending of Adolf Hitlers speach on February, 14 1939 says:

As Fuhrer of the German Volk and Chancellor of this Reich, I cannot conceive of a better name to give this ship than the name of this man who, as a fearless valiant knight created this German Reich, whose restoration from bitter despair and whose miraculous growth Providence has bestowed on us.

German construction workers, engineers, and dock workers have created the enormous hull of this proud giant which will ride the waves! May the German soldiers and officers, who will have the honor to command this ship one day, prove themselves worthy of the name! May the spirit of the Iron Chancellor suffuse them, may it accompany them in their actions during many sorties in times of peace! Should it be necessary, may his example inspiringly remind and precede them, may it illuminate the hours of hardest fulfilment of their duty! It is with this fervent wish that the German Volk greets its new battleship, the Bismarck!

Phew... that took a LONG time to read through, but as usual mate, you did it well.

I am sure Benn was trolling about the bells though, seeing as he put out a tweet afterwards, stating that us 'scum' took the bait over on the CoD forums, and now he would move ahead with the real reveal.

Guy has issues. SMH

Anyway... another fantastic thread mate. Really enjoyed the history lessons here. :)

Lol I shall condense the post my friends for more Clarity. Sound good? Benn can say what he wants it doesnt change the fact that this post is the true history of events that happen in a time that is close to or leading up to where we are. CoDz just happens to be the only place were you can find real fans working together rather than bashing on one another.

I hear that man. Even the Activision forum has people bashing each other every day.

Benn has something, but my reckoning is that it is NOT as major as he is making out it is, and his little 6 part series is just his way at inflating his ego, and trolling the community.

Pfft...
