  • The Rift Is Coming

    Kieran L

News broke this morning that Facebook's ever growing virtual reality headset Oculus Rift will finally become available to the public as it goes on commercial sale in early 2016. Nate Mitchell, vice president at Oculus VR tweeted " Extremely excited to announce that the Oculus Rift will be shipping Q1 2016! We can't wait to get it in your hands", putting an end to months of speculation about just when we would get to see the virtual reality headset on our shelves.

We got more confirmation after a follow up on the Oculus VR blog, which had this to say about the consumer model: "[the consumer model] builds on the presence, immersion, and comfort of the Crescent Bay prototype, with improved tracking systems that supports both seated and standing experiences, as well as a highly refined industrial design, and updated ergonomics for a more natural fit".

No price tag has been placed on the Oculus Rift as of yet, however pre-orders of the device will become available later this year, so we won't have long to wait until we discover the cost of what could be the next big step in gaming. However, Oculus Rift don't have a complete monopoly over the virtual reality headset concept, with Sony preparing to launch their Morpheus headset during the same period of next year, as well as Valve teaming up with HTC on the Vive VR headset, which will launch later this year. One thing is for sure however, we are entering a new era of gaming, and the Oculus Rift could well be at the forefront of that new era. The Rift is coming.

I'm still around, still playing Zombies all the time, and loving it. Recent lore developments on Astra got me in my feels. Shout out to Tac, Slade, and everyone here who paved the way for this insane little world we've all enjoyed.

Amidst the dark and eerie night
A choice to make – to run or fight?
      The undead horde approaches fast
Armed with weapons, till the very last
In Call of Duty: World at War - Zombies
The battle for survival never ceases
A test of skill, courage and wits
As waves of zombies just never quits
Blood-soaked grounds and a burning sky
The stakes are high, the danger nigh
But in this game, we rise above
To conquer the undead with brute, tough love
With finger on the trigger and heart in hand
We face the terror, and take a stand
For in this game, we live or die
With Call of Duty: World at War - Zombies, we must survive.

    • Max Payne 3 is a bit of a strange project. Unlike its two predecessors, the game wasn't developed by original creator Remedy Entertainment, rather it was the product of Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption studio Rockstar Games. Read more View the full article
    • Rockstar's GTA 6 is finally coming out on November 19, but the game was originally set to release in 2025. When the development team informed head of publishing, Jennifer Kolbe, that a delay to May 2026 was necessary, she made a call to Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick to let him know. Months later, she had to make that call again, informing Zelnick that a second delay to November 2026 was required to deliver Rockstar's full ambition for GTA 6. His response? “I think he said, ‘You’re kidding. Please tell me you’re kidding,’” Kolbe told Bloomberg. “But once we talked through why, he got it." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1c75QjeqrI Kolbe said she felt fortunate that Zelnick is "as reasonable as he is," because other executives might not budge and inform the team they need to find a way. "We have been really, really lucky that we have not found ourselves in that place, because that happens to a lot of teams, and we’ve all played those games. It’s not great," she said. For his part, Zelnick said said that for the most part, delaying a game is actually a "wise investment in time and financial resources" if the delay results in "the level of perfection it has the ability to reach." GTA 6 is releasing on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, but another delay is not out of the question. Development head Phil Hooker said GTA 6 is "never completely settled," nor does Rockstar have an "exact blueprint." "Even within the last few months, we’ve changed things," he said. That being said, no one is expecting GTA 6 to be delayed any further. Take-Two will release its next earnings report on November 10, and the company is expected to reiterate the November 19 release date during that event. GTA 6's physical copies, which include a code in the box and not a disc, will be available to buy at retailers on November 12, though the game does not unlock until a week later.
