  • Alan Wake 2 Tech Demo Details Revealed

    Nicholas S.

Earlier this week Polygon.com posted an article regarding an opportunity they had to learn about and experience a tech demo for Alan Wake 2 that was originally created roughly 5 years ago once the first Alan Wake had arrived in stores. After we received Alan Wake on the Xbox 360 in 2010, it easily felt like we were going to receive a full on sequel continuing the engaging Alan Wake story. The cliffhanger and characters were all in place and Remedy had their game prototype, but then, as the Polygon article mentions, it just vanished.

But, thanks to this opportunity that Polygon had to visit with Remedy and experience Alan Wake 2, they have released footage of the tech demo, which you can check out for yourself below.

One of the most exciting things mentioned in the article is that the tech demo seen here was eventually what led to Remedy's upcoming game Quantum Break. There's so much more that is talked about and discussed in the article relating to the tech demo and the future for Alan Wake which you can read for yourself here. Let us know what you think about the article and anything Alan Wake related in the comments below.

Amidst the dark and eerie night
A choice to make – to run or fight?
      The undead horde approaches fast
Armed with weapons, till the very last
In Call of Duty: World at War - Zombies
The battle for survival never ceases
A test of skill, courage and wits
As waves of zombies just never quits
Blood-soaked grounds and a burning sky
The stakes are high, the danger nigh
But in this game, we rise above
To conquer the undead with brute, tough love
With finger on the trigger and heart in hand
We face the terror, and take a stand
For in this game, we live or die
With Call of Duty: World at War - Zombies, we must survive.

and later released worldwide on December 14, 2011.
The game features the same gameplay mechanics as its predecessor, with players fighting off waves of zombies as they try to survive for as long as possible. The game also includes a new storyline set in a Cold War-era Pentagon, with the characters from the original Zombies mode returning to fight off the undead.
The game allows for up to four players to play together via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, and also includes a single-player mode with a new leaderboard system to track high scores.
Call of Duty: Black Ops – Zombies received mixed reviews upon release, with critics praising the game's addictive gameplay and multiplayer functionality, but criticizing the graphics and lack of content compared to the console versions of the game. Despite this, the game was a commercial success, with over a million downloads in its first week of release.

    • Blizzard has decided to cancel this year’s BlizzCon. The company states the event will return in the future, but it plans to showcase upcoming games in a different manner over the coming months.  First announced in a blog post, Blizzard plans to share details on upcoming games like World of Warcraft: The War Within and Diablo IV’s Vessel of Hatred expansion at other trade shows, such as Gamescom. The company also plans to launch “multiple, global, in-person events” for Warcraft’s 30th anniversary, which are described as being “distinct” from BlizzCon.  “Our hope is that these experiences – alongside several live-streamed industry events where we’ll keep you up to date with what’s happening in our game universes – will capture the essence of what makes the Blizzard community so special,” Blizzard states in the blog post. A Blizzard representative tells Windows Central that Blizzard made the call to cancel BlizzCon and not Microsoft, which completed its acquisition of the company last year. In a statement to the outlet, the representative says, “This is a Blizzard decision. We have explored different event formats in the past, and this isn't the first time we're skipping BlizzCon or trying something new. While we have great things to share in 2024, the timing just doesn’t line up for one single event at the end of the year.” BlizzCon began in 2005 as an annual convention celebrating all things Blizzard. Last year's show saw the reveal of World of Warcraft’s next expansion, The War Within, as well as two other expansions coming after it. It's good that event is only taking a year off as opposed to being canned for good, and we're curious to see how the alternative events shape up over the coming months.  View the full article
    • If you've been watching the 2024 MLB season and have felt the itch to play some baseball for yourself, there's a great price cut on the MLB The Show 24 Negro Leagues Edition. Typically listed for $125, you can pick up the collector's edition of the recently released baseball sim for just $100. That's the best price we've seen--though it's unclear how long the discount will stick around. While both the PS5 and Xbox versions are on sale at GameStop and Best Buy, Amazon is only carrying the Xbox version of the game. Amazon offers free overnight shipping for Prime members, while Best Buy and GameStop offer in-store pickup for select locations and free shipping (not as fast as Amazon, though). Keep in mind Xbox owners who are subscribed to Game Pass can play MLB The Show 24 without buying a copy. Our MLB The Show 24 review found it to be a solid entry in the series--and while it doesn't do a whole lot to innovate, it's still the premier baseball game on the market. "MLB The Show 24 still maintains the series' commendable output with fantastic gameplay and another collection of fascinating stories exploring The Negro Leagues and its players," wrote critic Richard Wakeling. "The addition of women in Road to the Show is another positive step, further reinforcing the overarching theme that baseball is for everyone, while the ability to customize how you play Franchise mode makes it a much more palatable proposition for those embarking on a 162-game season. MLB The Show 24 might not swing for the fences, but it's still a great way to spend the looming summer months." View the full article
