Amidst the dark and eerie night
A choice to make – to run or fight?
      The undead horde approaches fast
Armed with weapons, till the very last
In Call of Duty: World at War - Zombies
The battle for survival never ceases
A test of skill, courage and wits
As waves of zombies just never quits
Blood-soaked grounds and a burning sky
The stakes are high, the danger nigh
But in this game, we rise above
To conquer the undead with brute, tough love
With finger on the trigger and heart in hand
We face the terror, and take a stand
For in this game, we live or die
With Call of Duty: World at War - Zombies, we must survive.

and later released worldwide on December 14, 2011.
The game features the same gameplay mechanics as its predecessor, with players fighting off waves of zombies as they try to survive for as long as possible. The game also includes a new storyline set in a Cold War-era Pentagon, with the characters from the original Zombies mode returning to fight off the undead.
The game allows for up to four players to play together via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, and also includes a single-player mode with a new leaderboard system to track high scores.
Call of Duty: Black Ops – Zombies received mixed reviews upon release, with critics praising the game's addictive gameplay and multiplayer functionality, but criticizing the graphics and lack of content compared to the console versions of the game. Despite this, the game was a commercial success, with over a million downloads in its first week of release.

    • Before Your Eyes developer Nice Dream and publisher Skybound Entertainment have announced the studio's new game, Goodnight Universe. It's billed as a spiritual follow-up to Before Your Eyes. In this game, you play as a six-month-old baby named Isaac who has psychic powers. While Isaac is just a cute little baby and wants familial love, there's a secret tech company out there that wants to exploit his powers. Goodnight Universe will also expand on the eye-tracking mechanics that Before Your Eyes had, but with a sci-fi twist as well. "Both Skybound and Nice Dream are dedicated to bringing compelling stories to everyone and feel that interactive entertainment is a medium capable of conveying powerful stories that can’t be told any other way," said Skybound general managing partner Ian Howe in a press release. "Before Your Eyes is a prime example of this, and Goodnight Universe is shaping up to be yet another boundary-breaking video game." While Goodnight Universe doesn't have any announced platform or release window yet, it will be present at the 2024 Tribeca Festival. Before Your Eyes was released in April 2021 to critical acclaim. In GameSpot's Before Your Eyes review, we said, "Unusual control schemes often make me long for the familiarity of a controller. Sure, I can speak to my Nintendogs using the microphone on the DS, but sometimes I don’t want to yell at my shih tzu on a Delta flight. Before Your Eyes manages to do the opposite. Its unique mechanic matches its narrative so perfectly, that you won’t want to play it any other way." View the full article
    • Microsoft has released its latest earnings report, and included in the document is an update on how the Xbox division is doing. Overall, Xbox revenue is way up thanks to contributions from Activision Blizzard, but hardware sales are down massively. And that's not exclusive to Xbox, either, as PlayStation recently missed sales targets and Switch sales are trending down. Microsoft said in its quarterly filing that Xbox hardware revenue decreased 31%, due to "lower volume of consoles sold." According to GI.biz, this past quarter was the worst ever since the Xbox Series X|S launched in November 2020 in terms of a quarterly percent decline. Again, this downturn is not specific to Xbox. Circana, formerly known as NPD, reported recently that all three platforms--Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and Switch--are experiencing year-over-year declines in the US. All three platforms were down at a minimum of 19% year-over-year based on the latest publicly available data. Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo are now expected to be working on new hardware to help breathe new life into their hardware businesses. Xbox has already flat-out confirmed new hardware, while rumors continue to swirl about a potential PS5 Pro and Nintendo Switch 2. In better news for Xbox, total gaming revenue increased by 51%, or $1.8 billion, thanks to growth in the Xbox content and services business. Content and services revenue specifically jumped by 62%, with Activision Blizzard revenue driving 61 points of net impact overall. Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard in 2023 for a price of $74.5 billion. Not long after, Microsoft laid off nearly 2,000 people at Xbox. Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer defended the cuts, saying Xbox is a business, and his job is to increase profitability and shareholder value, even if that means laying people off. Looking ahead, Nintendo will release its latest earnings report on May 7, while Sony is giving its own financial update on May 14, so it won't be much longer until we learn how the Switch and PlayStation businesses are performing. As for Xbox, it will hold a summertime games showcase in June that could include the next Call of Duty game and more. View the full article
