BOTD Easter Egg Steps

Here are the steps thus far:


I. Unleash the Spirits


  1. Collected and build the pieces for the Spectral Shield. The Warden's key is found by killing Brutus. The spectral essence can be found on one of three potential Afterlife boxes (one in library, one near Showers entrance, one in front of Warden's Office entrance).
  2. Turn on the power for the prison via building near the Docks.
  3. Activate the volt meter on the roof where the ramp is and Pack-a-Punch will arrive.


II. Shock and Denial


  1. Obtain the Spoon (or Golden Spork). You must find the three glowing numbers on the pillars in the Warden's Office, then input the code into Citadel Tunnels number generator. After that, shock the volt meter on the Docks and throw your Hell's Retriever/Redeemer at the net the crane will bring. Here is a video on how to do it.
  2. Head to the Warden's House and at the top of the stairs, knife the wall across the zombie barrier. You should see scratch marks appear.
  3. To make this step go faster, obtain a Monkey Bomb via Mystery Box or completing the Monkey Bomb Statue ritual in Cell Block and throw a Monkey Bomb near the scratched wall with a Brutus around. He will slam down on it, causing a hidden room to open up where the wall once way.
  4. Interact with the power switch inside the Warden's Ritual Room and watch as the Warden's corpse becomes revealed, dead on an electric chair.
  5. Take the small, glowing red orb on the table left of the room.


III. Guilt and Pain


  1. Grab the red orb from the previous step and place it on the spawn map (hanging on the wall).
  2. Activate the Kronorium and chase the ghost bird back to the prison.
  3. The location of where the bird goes may vary. You will need to use the Spectral Shield to see the bird, but there are several locations including. #4 will contain all the possible locations.

Note: on the 4th bird, you can only see the bird in Zombie Blood. Listen out for the bird or the Warden crying to locate the area of the bird. Use the number 8-7-2 on the number generator in the Citadel Tunnels to obtain the Zombie Blood. Instead of the shield, throw your Hell's Retriever/Redeemer at the bird and it will drop the Kronorium which you can then pick up.


IV. Anger and Bargaining


  1. Go back to the Warden's Ritual Room at the top floor of the Warden's house and put the Kronorium on the Warden's corpse.
  2. Use the shield to look at the Kronorium, which will give you three numbers. Place these three numbers into the number generator down in the Citadel Tunnels and the lighthouse will show you the location of a portal.
  3. Look at and blast the portal using the shield to begin the portal's challenge. There are 5 challenges, and if you mess up any challenge, you will have to repeat the beginning of this step with new numbers.


Here's an excerpt from r/codzombies pertaining to this step for each portal challenge:





  1. A lamp in the Warden's House will emit Morse Code which will need to be inputted into the machine located within the cage in the Warden's Office. If done correctly, a ghost boat will spawn at the Docks which can be revealed using the Spectral Shield.
  2. Navigate to the Infirmary and kill a Zombie near a medical table, turning it into a ghost, Spirit Blast the ghost to begin activate the soul box.
  3. Continue to kill Zombies near the ghost until all players are able to activate the ghost and cause it to begin moving.
  4. Escort the ghost to the ghost bot at the Docks.
  5. Once completed, a red stone will be placed in the HUD indicator.


Power House


  1. Use shield vision to see the spirit using the levers where the logic gate symbols are and shield blast it.
  2. Head down to docks and into the east side power room go to the back of the room and interact with a sparking generator, the room will go black and you play a game of Simon Says with the panels.
  3. Once you're done all of them will blink and the room will have all the lights turn back on. This needs to be done 5 times, once completed 3 of the machines will light up - note the logic gate symbols on these machines.
  4. Grab the punch card off the shelf in the middle of the room (with the candles), go to the upstairs room in spawn and place this card into the Gorod Krovi computer. The green monitors will light up, each with a symbol on them, interacting with a monitor shows the corresponding hobo/logic gate symbol. You must match the hobo symbols from the Spawn power room to the Logic Symbols from the Docks power room that were noted.
  5. Once a symbol is matched, go to the spawn power room and see the the spirit trying to pull the levers. When it attempts to pull the lever of the symbol you just matched, shield blast it. He will become visible outside of shield vision and will pull the lever successfully.
  6. Repeat this for the other 2 symbols that were on the lit up machines at docks.
  7. Once complete, a red orb (like the one at the end of shock and denial) will drop in front of the last lever you blasted.




  1. A ghost will spawn near the portal playing the banjo, activate the ghost to obtain the banjo and spawn blue circles on the ground.
  2. Stand within the circles to prevent taking damage, kill Zombies to collect souls.
  3. After each circle is complete, give the ghost his banjo and pick it up again. Complete this process until the circles no longer spawn, return the banjo to the ghost.
  4. Collect the red orb that drops near the ghost.


New Industries


  1. Locate and Spirit Blast a blue ghost found in the prison.
  2. The ghost will begin to move, use the Spectral Shield's Key to drain the soul from the ghost until it turns red.
  3. The ghost will make its way to the New Industries building where the trap must be purchased before the ghost arrives, the ghost will walk into the trap and die.
  4. Collect the red orb that drops near the ghost.


Michigan Avenue


  1. Locate the ghost in the Cafeteria and Spirit Blast it.
  2. Escort and defend the ghost until it reaches the Portal located in Michigan Avenue. All players must be together when this happens!
  3. Collect the red orb that drops near the ghost.


Collect a red orb from each portal, which you will need to collect all of them to progress to Step 5.


V. Reflection and Loneliness


  1. Insert all red orbs onto the map in Richtofen's Laboratory as done before.
  2. Head back to the Warden's Ritual Room and interact with the Warden's corpse and a cutscene will begin.


VI. Reconstruction


  1. After being released from the jail cells, grab your arsenel from a sack found right before exiting the Cell Block 2nd floor (going into the Library). Make sure you also have your shield!
  2. Follow the bird from Step 3 slowly. After Brutus is alerted, head back to Richtofen's Laboratory, being careful of the infinite dog spawns.
  3. After watching the Mob of the Dead ghosts fend of Brutus, a red orb will appear like before. Collect it and head inside to the Laboratory, placing the final orb on the map as before.
  4. A door will open in the corner of the Laboratory. Enter through and have each player stand on a small pad with yellow lights on the floor at the top of the stairs. You will now enter the Boss Fight.


VII. Acceptance and Hope


There are two stages to the boss battle. Be warned this can be a timely step.


  1. The first stage is just you and your team killing Zombies until Brutus appears.
  2. The second stage involves Brutus charging up an attack. Red zones will appear on the ground. Step into the zones and shoot glowing red orbs floating above Brutus. After removing the orbs, shield blast Brutus.
  3. An orb will now float above the Blood Machine in the center of the stage. Shield blast the orb.
  4. Repeat Steps 1-3 a total of three times.
  5. After the third time, have the Player who is Richtofen interact with the Blood Machine. A bot may spawn if the quest is being done in Solo/no Richtofen is available.
  6. Take control of Primis Richtofen after a brief cutscene and make your way back to the Boss Fight entrance (where #4 of Step 6 took place). The ending cutscene will occur after your character enters the stage.


--- Helpful Tips ---


  • Hellhounds can be killed easily with the Shield Key and are great for collecting easy souls for a charged Shield.
  • There are sparking Afterlife boxes around the map that when interacted with via the Shield, can give a full charge! This only happens once per round.
  • Use the free Blundergat (by collecting 5 skulls across the map) to quickly get your Golden Spork. Having the spork is a godsend when going into Step 4 and above.
  • Consider upgrading your shield to get a total of 4 charges instead of 2.
