Dead Cells developer Evil Empire is no longer working on the game, bringing to a close five years of updates.

The roguelite Metroidvania has received four DLC expansions, 18 updates, and crossovers with Castlevania, Hollow Knight, and more, with Evil Empire acting as a subsidiary of developer Motion Twin to support the game long term.

In a statement from Evil Empire, it explained the team is now working in full on "secret projects" to be revealed "very soon".

  2. Grand Theft Auto VI is arguably the most-anticipated game in development right now, and many are wondering when they'll be able to get their hands on it. Officially, Take-Two and Rockstar Games have confirmed it's lined up for release in calendar year 2025. Take-Two's latest earnings briefing may contain some further clues about when during 2025 the game may release.

Previous indications from Take-Two management suggested GTA VI would release during the company's FY25, which runs April 1, 2024 - March 31, 2025. However, during Take-Two's earnings call, the company provided a lower revenue guidance for FY25 than before. Given the enormous revenue potential for GTA VI, this might suggest that GTA VI is now set for release in FY26 (April 1, 2025-March 31, 2026). This means it would release no sooner than April 1, 2025.

As mentioned, the only official date that Take-Two has provided for GTA VI is sometime during calendar 2025. As such, it remains possible the game releases between January and March 2025.

During Take-Two's latest earnings call, CFO Lainie Goldstein said the company is in the midst of the budgeting process for FY25, and that the figure currently is looking like it will come it at a little north of $7 billion. This is down from a previous forecast of $8 billion. Such a significant reduction points to GTA VI slipping out out of FY25 and into a window between April and December of 2025.

Analyst Michael Pachter of Wedbush Securities said in a memo to investors that the assumption now is that GTA VI has slipped out of FY25 and into FY26.

Rockstar has committed to a 2025 release for GTA VI, but it's a reasonable assumption to believe Rockstar will delay the game. The majority of Rockstar's biggest games over the past decade-plus have been delayed beyond their originally announced release windows, including Grand Theft Auto IV, Red Dead Redemption, Grand Theft Auto V, and Red Dead Redemption II. This doesn't guarantee that Rockstar will delay Grand Theft Auto VI, but it does demonstrate that Take-Two and Rockstar are willing to delay their biggest games presumably in a bid to improve quality.

To that end, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said during the company's earnings briefing that Rockstar is "seeking perfection" with GTA VI and won't release the game until it's "optimized creatively." Zelnick said the developers making GTA VI are motivated to make the game the best it can be in part because of Take-Two's profit-sharing plans that could result in big bonuses.

"There is inherent tension potentially between getting something to market and creating perfection, but this company errs on the side of perfection," Zelnick said.

GTA VI is set in Vice City and the surrounding area in the fictional state of Leonida, which is a stand-in for Miami and the surrounding areas in Florida. The game will seemingly focus on two main characters, one of whom is Lucia and the other is rumored to be named Jason. Right now, the game is confirmed for release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Keep checking back with GameSpot for more on GTA VI as we continue to learn more.

  3. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is a game that lives up to its name, but the how of Task Force X's mission to save Metropolis has left fans of Rocksteady Studios polarized. One such death in the game has been heavily criticized, but it might not be lights out just yet for a pivotal character in the Arkhamverse.

Spoilers for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League below.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

If you've played the game or read any of the online discourse, you'll know that Batman's fate in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is particularly grim. The Suicide Squad succeeds in taking down Batman in his Metropolis lair, and after allowing an Elseworlds Lex Luthor to run some experiments on him, the Dark Knight is summarily executed by Harley Quinn so that Superman can be lured out of Brainiac's mothership.

It's a shocking end to Batman, but one that might be kind of undone soon. A new video from Batman Arkham Videos has gathered up clues left behind in Metropolis, as players can hunt down 12 calendars spread across the city. Each one of these calendars has a specific date attached to them, and the December calendar in particular has a bat symbol on its highlighted day. This clue is also found in the park where the the Caped Crusader was gunned down, and as Batman Arkham Videos pointed out, converting the dates into letters based on the day of the month spells out the hidden message "He will return."

This seems like a clear indicator that Batman will return. Bullets to the head are a temporary problem at best in comic books, and Rocksteady has left several clues in Suicide Squad hinting at how Batman might not be dead after all. Brainiac has demonstrated the ability to clone bodies and transplant superpowers into his soldiers, so the Batman Harley Quinn murdered in cold blood might have been a clone after all.

Even if the original Arkhamverse Batman is dead and buried, Suicide Squad can still pull another incarnation from the multiverse, as each season of the game will explore another parallel dimension in the war against Brainiac and his alternate forms. Datamining has also reportedly revealed who'll be joining the squad next, as after the Joker arrives in March, it's claimed that Mrs Freeze (Nora Fries instead of Victor), Deadshot's daughter Zoe Lawton AKA Lawless, and Deathstroke will be added to the game in future seasons.

The Arkhamverse Batman is against using guns--unless they're strapped to his Batmobile--but there is a Batman who is a fan of firearms, the Grim Knight. Allied with the Batman Who Laughs and his army of evil Batmen in the DC Universe, this Batman embraced lethal force and has no issue using extreme force in his war on crime--something that could make him a perfect fit for the Suicide Squad.

The game is out now for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, but reviews haven't been too kind to Rocksteady's new Arkhamverse title. "Rocksteady's first game in nearly a decade can't shake the superhero-as-a-service genre's ubiquitous feeling that it exists to keep players mindlessly engaged," Mark Delaney wrote in GameSpot's Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League review.

  4. gta-5-cheats-cheat-codes-ps4-ps3-xbox-on

GTA 5 will soon pass the astonishing milestone of having sold 200m copies.

The game currently sits on 195m copies sold to date, with more than five million copies shifted over the past three months, publisher Take-Two revealed in its latest financial results.

If its current momentum continues, GTA 5 will pass the 200m mark before the summer. That's around 100m more copies sold than Tetris, and behind only Minecraft (which has sold around 300m copies, it's believed).

  6. Hideo Kojima is quite busy lately, as the veteran developer has multiple projects in the works at his studio Kojima Productions. A recent trailer for Death Stranding 2: On The Beach showed off more story, gameplay, and creepy puppets for the sequel, and over at Microsoft, Kojima is aiming to push the envelop on horror with the mysterious OD. Beyond those projects, Kojima is also returning to his action-espionage roots.

Announced during the January 2024 State of Play broadcast, the project is currently being developed under the working title of Physint and will use "cutting-edge" technology to create a hybrid game and movie experience. In a new episode of his HideoTube web series, Kojima offered a few more details on the project and how he's attempting to push the limits on its visuals.

"Of course, it will be a game," Kojima said. "However, if your mother walks in and sees you playing this game, she'll think you're watching a movie. I'm not sure how far we can take it yet."

Kojima says he was inspired to develop Physint after he recovered from a severe bout of illness during the COVID pandemic, as after challenging himself to create original games with franchise potential, he wanted to respond to fan requests to create another Metal Gear.

"Because I became independent, I wanted to do something new with my own IP, Kojima said. "So to challenge myself, I first made Death Stranding. Then, to create a franchise, I made Death Stranding 2. And I wanted to do something even newer, so I started working on OD. And since then, there have been a lot of new ideas. But in the last eight years, every day on social media, from users all around the world, people have been asking me to create another Metal Gear and stuff like that.

"Then, I fell ill in 2020. It was also during the pandemic, so I was sick and isolated during all of it. I even had surgery. And I thought, 'I can't anymore.' I was at my lowest and felt like I couldn't go back to making games. I wrote a will, too. And in that moment, I realized that people die. But, I turned 60 last year. I'll turn 70 in 10 years. I hope to never retire. Having said that, if the users desire it so much, I thought I should change my priorities a bit. I still want to do new things, but I decided to make an action-espionage game."

Physint won't be out for quite a long time, as Kojima confirmed during last month's State of Play that "preparations are underway" to start developing it after Death Stranding: On The Beach is released in 2025.

  7. Cinema returns with Blockbuster Inc, a management sim and creative suite a la 2005 cult classic The Movies, and you can try the prologue for free right now on Steam.

Like its inspiration, Blockbuster Inc. tasks you with building a movie studio, starting in the silent era all the way to the modern day. You'll have to cast stars, customize your sets and studio lots, and hire writers, producers, and crew. Every staff member has their own personality traits and quirks, which may or may not help them work with others.

Aside the management elements, you can write and direct your own films with the Direct Scene feature. You can pose actors, adjust lighting, change shots, edit individual scenes together, and otherwise dabble with your movie's look and feel.

The Movies was a Lionhead Studios game that released to fairly positive reviews but tepid sales. It had an online database where players could upload their own films a year before YouTube existed. Some of these films even broke out into the broader culture. The most famous of these was The French Democracy, a potent protest film about police brutality in France.

Blockbuster Inc. is currently planned to launch sometime in Q2 2024.

Pikachu stars in the music video for Jax Jones' new single Never Be Lonely.

The single, which features German singer-songwriter Zoe Wees, was released today and accompanied by a music video. The video is a collaboration between Jones and The Pokémon Company International, and sees Pikachu being abducted onto a UFO-turned-stadium where Jones and Wees are performing.

Pikachu isn't that mad about being abducted though, as he happily greets the two and dances along before illuminating (or rather electrocuting) the entire stadium. Ceruledge also makes a sneaky appearance towards the beginning of the video, as a projection onto the sides of some buildings.

  9. Nintendo is offering up its best Navi impersonation by asking you to "hey, listen" to a pre-recorded orchestral concert of classic The Legend of Zelda tunes. The performance happened last month in Tokyo, but now is available to everyone to watch on YouTube--and seen below.

Originally, this Legend of Zelda concert was supposed to take place at Nintendo Live 2024 Tokyo, but the company had to cancel the event over safety fears, per VGC. As such, the performance was pre-recorded and shared online. The video clocks in at almost 30 minutes and features songs from the original NES game, Ocarina of Time, Breath of the Wild, and more.

Nintendo Live 2023 took place in Seattle last September after it originally debuted in Japan the previous year. In addition, Nintendo has held numerous live performances of The Legend of Zelda music over the past decade. For instance, there have been Zelda symphony tours as well as an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert way back in 2015.

The latest entry in the long-running series is The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which just topped 20 million copies sold. The Nintendo Switch exclusive launched in May 2023 and became the fastest-selling game in franchise history.

  10. Fortnite and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) are crossing over once again, this time with a major in-game event that will carry through to nearly the end of Chapter 5 Season 1. The Fortnite Cowabunga event brings both the Turtles' archnemesis and their mentor to the game as new skins to purchase, a bevy of in-game quests that can unlock both paid and free cosmetics, plus TMNT loot that will equip you with the heroes in a half-shell's iconic melee weapons.

Here's everything to know about the Fortnite Cowabunga event.

Fortnite TMNT event start and end date

The Fortnite Cowabunga event is now live, and extends for several weeks before it finally ends on February 27 at 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET.

    Cowabunga Pass

Like the Star Wars and Jiujitsu Kaisen mini-passes before it, the Cowabunga Pass acts like an additional mini battle pass that launches near the end of the season--in this case, today. It seems Epic plans to roll out these sort of events almost seasonally going forward. The TMNT pass includes several items in both its free and paid tiers.

In the free tier, you can unlock several items, such as the TMNT Pizza back bling, Kuro Kabuto bass guitar, the Turtle Blimp glider, and more. Purchasing the paid tier will unlock several more items, including instant access to the Shredder skin. Completing the paid tier also unlocks the Super Shredder skin. Both skins include Lego variants.

Also found in the item shop is Splinter (with his own Lego style, too), the Turtles' mentor and father figure, while April O'Neil and the Turtles themselves all return to the item shop after having debuted earlier this season.

    The full Cowabunga Pass

    Cowabunga Quests

The Cowabunga event is fueled by its many in-game challenges, or Quests. Completing each one awards you with Ooze, and as you earn more and more Ooze, you'll unlock the mini-pass items. By earning enough Ooze within each of the event's six phases of challenges, you can also eventually unlock the event's bonus item, the Krang back bling--fans will recall Krang as the memorable talking brain from the cartoon.

    TMNT weapons

Ooze and pizza are closely tied to the Ninja Turtles, but so too are their iconic weapons. During the Cowabunga event, all four of the heroes' melee weapons of choice will be available as loot in battle royale and Zero Build. This includes:

    • Leonardo's Katanas
    • Raphael's Sai
    • Donatello's Staff
    • Michaelangelo's Nunchaku

The weapons have different stats but each include the same set of abilities: attack, air attack, dash attack, and double jump. Like the Star Wars lightsabers, these look poised to become meta-shifting weapons for the duration of their availability. These weapons can be found in chests, Supply Drops, and vending machines.

Driftboards are also unvaulted and now reskinned in a TMNT style, and of course, the Pizza Party healing item is back too. What's a Ninja Turtles event without pizza, after all?

Ubisoft's live-service pirate ship game Skull and Bones is a "quadruple-A" project, company boss Yves Guillemot has said.

Discussing the long-awaited project with investors last night, Guillemot justified the live service game launching with a £70 price tag as it being a fully-formed experience that was also supported by a battle pass, premium currency and an in-game store.

"You will see that Skull and Bones is a full-fledged game," Guillemot said. "It's a very big game and we feel that people will really see how vast and complete that game is. So it's a really full triple-A, quadruple-A game that will deliver in the long run."

  12. Lawrence Sullivan--AKA Florida Joker--has dropped his plans to sue GTA 6 developer Rocksteady Games, but he's still demanding to be given a voice-acting role in the upcoming game. Sullivan had previously claimed that his likeness had been stolen for a blink-and-you'll-miss-it scene in the GTA 6 trailer, and he threatened to sue Rockstar unless they compensated him. In a new TikTok video, Sullivan says he is abandoning all legal threats but he still wants to work with the developer as a voice actor and as an ambassador for GTA 6 so that he can help promote the game.

"Rockstar, we've got to talk," Sullivan said. I'm not suing you all anymore, but you're all still out of your goddamn nuggets. It's been two whole months. You haven't reached out to me. Let's do what's right. Show me like $50,000, $100,000. Let me voice the character, let me go to the meet-and-greets when the game is released. Let me sign, take pictures with the fans. Let me promote the game."

While Take-Two and Rockstar have yet to respond--or even acknowledge--Sullivan's claims and requests, parent company Take-Two Interactive is aiming to for the game to be as close to perfection as possible. In the company's latest earnings call, Take-Two said that the game will not be rushed out to the market and added that player anticipation for GTA 6 has begun to surge. "Our sense is that the anticipation is much higher. Much, much higher," Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said.

GTA 6 is scheduled to launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in 2025, and a PC version could arrive at a later date.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth players are already sharing piano covers from the game's demo, just days after its release.

The demo takes place in Nibelheim where, as Cloud, players can snoop around in Tifa's house and play her piano - fans of the original will remember this is how you unlock her ultimate limit break.

Now, in Rebirth, the piano is freely playable in a little minigame, so players have been busy creating covers of Final Fantasy tunes and pop songs.

The next game from Ori and the Blind Forest developer Moon Studios has been delayed slightly.

However, the game's early access launch has now been delayed to Q1 of the financial year 2025 (or Q2 of the calendar year 2024), as revealed in Take-Two's earning report for Q3 2024.

Nexus VR isn't mentioned at all in Ubisoft's Q3 earnings press release, but the game was addressed by Guillemot during its conference call (as reported by VGC).

A series of Easter eggs point to us seeing more of Batman in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, presumably as part of a forthcoming post-launch update.

In-game calendar pages posted around the game's Metropolis map have been spotted by Batman Arkham Videos, and verified by Eurogamer. Each features a circled date, with a hidden code that spells out a secret message.

Substituting the date marked on each calendar page (the eighth of January, for example) with the corresponding letter of the alphabet (H, the eighth letter) spells out the following phrase: "He Will Return".

Sega has reported poor financial results for the past quarter, due to the "weak" performance of some recent releases.

While specific sales have not been noted in its latest report, games released in the last quarter include Sonic Superstars, Persona 5 Tactica, Total War: Pharaoh, and Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name.

However, its latest releases suggest a more positive quarter is on the horizon, despite the company lowering its forecast.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has said the company, publisher of Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption, has "no current plans" to layoff staff as it continues to pursue its cost reduction program.

Details of the cost reduction program were discussed by Zelnick during Take-Two's Q3 2024 financial report, which was released yesterday.

During the earnings call with investors, Zelnick said Take-Two is "currently working on a significant cost reduction program". A similar cost reduction program was announced by Take-Two in its third quarter report for 2023, which resulted in some layoffs last year.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot believes the launch of GTA 6 will be "positive for the market" and expects it to launch after April 2025.

Take-Two itself has provided a release window of 2025, but Guillemot expects it "closer to our financial year '26 than our financial year '25".

Whenever GTA 6 releases, Guillemot said it will be good for the industry when questioned during the company's Q3 earnings call yesterday.

  20. With Grand Theft Auto VI being one of the industry's most anticipated upcoming games, Take-Two Interactive, which owns GTA developer Rockstar, is aiming for perfection. In the company's latest earnings call, Take-Two acknowledged the excitement around the upcoming sequel, saying it would rather push for perfection than rush an anticipated game out to market.

During the call, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick discussed the ongoing success of the Grand Theft Auto series, saying that excitement around the Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer release had a positive impact. "The Grand Theft Auto series is benefiting meaningfully from excitement surrounding Rockstar's announcement of Grand Theft Auto VI and the release of its first trailer," Zelnick said, adding some statistics around the trailer's record-breaking debut.

Zelnick elaborated on the popularity of the franchise during the Q&A section of the call, stating that "all things GTA lead to more excitement." When asked how the hype around GTA 6 compares to what the company saw with the GTA 5 launch in 2013, Zelnick said "our sense is that the anticipation is much higher. Much, much higher."

In response to a question around how the release window for GTA 6 was decided, Zelnick explained that Take-Two prioritized polish over rushing the game to release. "We're seeking perfection," he stated straight away. "When we feel we've optimized creatively, that's the time to release."

"There's inherent tension, potentially, between getting something to market and creating perfection," Zelnick added. "But this company errs on the side of perfection."

During the call, Take-Two also announced a "significant cost reduction" was in the works, but has said that it won't require laying off staff for now.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is currently scheduled to release in 2025.

  21. Take-Two has recently announced that it is working on a "significant cost reduction" but has assured the public that it won't be laying off its employees for now.

The news comes from a Take-Two earnings report where the company had stated:

"We are currently working on a significant cost reduction program across our entire business to maximize our margins while still investing for growth. These measures are incremental to, and more robust than, our prior cost reduction program, and we aim to achieve greater operating leverage as we roll out our outstanding release schedule."

In an IGN report, CEO Strauss Zelnick told them that there were no plans for layoffs. He continued by saying:

"We haven't put any meat on the bones of that yet," Zelnick explained. "I would just note that our biggest line item of expense is actually marketing. We do think we can optimize that. We also have third-party expenses, software, other vendors, supply services. And we always find opportunity there. The hardest thing to do is to lay off colleagues, and we have no current plans."

As pointed out by Games Industry.biz Take-Two had a similar plan last year but in the process of its "cost reduction plan," the company laid off an undisclosed amount of employees.

Layoffs have already affected a large part of the gaming industry this year. In just the past months companies such as 2K, Microsoft, Riot, and many more have laid off a significant number of their employees.

A fresh set of weekly freebies has now arrived on the Epic Games Store, this time in the form of acclaimed visual novel Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! and rogue-like brawling RPG Lost Castle - with Dakar Desert Racing to follow next week.

Starting with Doki Doki Literature Club Plus!, it's the enhanced and expanded version of developer Team Salvato renowned 2017 freeware visual novel of the same name (minus the 'Plus!' bit, obviously) that starts out innocently enough - with players taking on the role of a new student who can romance the anime-styled members of the titular club - before taking a metatextual turn into considerably darker territory.

If that's not your thing - and its Epic Games Store listing makes it clear Doki Doki isn't "suitable for children or those who are easily disturbed" - your other freebie option is Lost Castle. This is a "super cute, super hard action RPG with roguelike elements and randomised dungeons" from Hunter Studio, and it supports four-player co-op and PvP both locally and online.

  23. No Rest for the Wicked, the latest game to come from Ori developers Moon Studios, has been delayed. It was originally scheduled to enter early access later this year.

The news comes from Take-Two's earnings report (Via IGN). In the report, No Rest for the Wicked is now listed for a "Q1 Fiscal 2025," meaning it'll come out sometime between April, May, or June of 2024. So it'll only be delayed by a few months at most.

Further in the IGN report, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick explained the reasoning for delaying the game was to ensure it was up to consumer standards:

"It did get pushed a quarter, and as always, we will move something if we feel like we just want to give it a little more polish so it can be the best bet it can be and be an even more amazing experience for consumers."

No Rest for the Wicked was first shown at The Game Awards in 2023. It takes place in a fictional kingdom in the year 841, during which time a king dies, creating a fight over his successor. On top of that, players will need to defend their land from monsters invading it. No Rest for the Wicked will support multiplayer for up to four online co-op players and will launch on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S following a PC-only early access period.

  24. One of your first major quests outside of Sainte-Anne in Skull and Bones takes place with the Sea People. This clan is an ally of Scurlock's and you're sent to them to deliver some weapon caches. Once you get to their settlement, though, you can take on another quest, which is to find and recover the lost Sea People Relic.

In order to recover the relic, you need to follow a treasure map. This treasure map gives you a rough location of where to find the relic, but the rest is up to you. If you want to know where to find the Sea People Relic and solve the treasure map in Skull and Bones, check out the guide below.

Following the Sea People Relic treasure map

After you accept the quest to find the Sea People Relic, called "Relics of the Past," make sure you track it in your quest log. Once this is done, you can press RT/R2/X to bring up your quest log in-game. Here, you're able to view a brief description of your objective as well as view the treasure map, which is seen below:

As you can read from the text, you need to travel to Fort Louis on the Tenina Coast to find the buried treasure left behind by the Sea People. This settlement is located at the very bottom of your map on the southern tip of the Tenina Coast. You'll have to travel southeast from Sainte-Anne, past Learnt Men's Hill, to reach Fort Louis, which is the southernmost island on the map.

    No Caption Provided

After arriving at Fort Louis, you can disembark once you reach the small inlet located on the south side of the island. Here, you can talk to the Fara clan, the vicious rivals of the Sea People, as well as other pirates.

As soon as you step off your boat, go straight and then turn left at the stone wall. You should see some wooden planks in the sand and be directly in front of a wooden structure. At this location, you'll see a glowing orange light coming out of the sand. Go here and you'll get a prompt to "Dig Up Item," which you can do without needing a separate tool. This is the buried treasure location on the map, rewarding you with the Sea People Relic after your character has finished digging.

    No Caption Provided

With the relic in your possession, you need to get back on your ship and make your way north to a settlement called Palisade Bay. This location is northwest of Sainte-Anne and in The Giant's Leap region of the map. Here, you can interact with the settlement while still on your ship (simply head toward the shoreline near the settlement) and give them the Sea People Relic, which completes the Relics of the Past quest in Skull and Bones.
