This summer, Epic Games finally gets its wish when, thanks to new EU regulations, it's launching its own digital store on iOS and Android. And ahead of its arrival, the company has announced it's removing Fortnite and other Epic games from what it calls "rent collector" competing stores, "even if those stores offer us a special deal for our own games."
In its announcement post, Epic first confirms developers selling games on its on its new mobile store will be subject to the same 12 percent fee seen on its PC digital storefront (zero percent if a developer uses a third-party payment system). It then reveals plans to pull its own games from some competing stores. More specifically, it says it'll be "ending distribution partnerships with mobile stores that serve as rent collectors without competing robustly and serving all developers fairly, even if those stores offer us a special deal for our own games."
It's also pulling Fortnite and its other titles from the Samsung Galaxy Store, in what it calls "protest of Samsung's anticompetitive decision to block side-loading by default" on its devices. Conversely, Epic says it's planning to brings its own mobile games to stores that "give all developers a great deal". One of these will be the indie-focused AltStore.

Crystal Dynamics' beloved dark fantasy action-adventure series Legacy of Kain could be poised to receive the remaster treatment, if newly sighted branding at Comic-Con is to be believed.
As spotted by a user on Resetera, logos for an unannounced "Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered" were included on display plaques accompanying statues of game characters Kain and Raziel at this week's Comic-Con San Diego show.
A Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver graphic novel prequel, The Dead Shall Rise, was recently announced by Dark Horse Comics, and GameSpot has now received confirmation from the publisher's VP of product development and sales that this is due to release in August.

UPDATE 26/07/24: Video game producers negotiating as part of the Interactive Media Agreement have responded to news of the SAG-AFTRA strike.
"We are disappointed the union has chosen to walk away when we are so close to a deal, and we remain prepared to resume negotiations," reads a statement from spokesperson for the video game producers party to the Interactive Media Agreement, Audrey Cooling, shared with Eurogamer.
"We have already found common ground on 24 out of 25 proposals, including historic wage increases and additional safety provisions. Our offer is directly responsive to SAG-AFTRA's concerns and extends meaningful AI protections that include requiring consent and fair compensation to all performers working under the IMA. These terms are among the strongest in the entertainment industry."

Of all the changes made in the transition from Overwatch 1 to 2, the move from 6v6 battles to 5v5 was undoubtedly one of its most controversial. And now developer Blizzard Entertainment has confirmed its's revisiting that decision, exploring if and how 6v6 matches could be re-introduced to Overwatch 2 in a series of upcoming tests.
All this is detailed in a blog from Overwatch 2 director Aaron Keller, who begins by explaining exactly why the move to 5v5 was made in the first place. "The world of 6v6 could have really high, highs," he writes, "but reaaaally low, lows. One of the design goals of 5v5 was to try to raise that floor, even though it was at the expense of some of some of those high moments."
As such, 5v5 was chosen to increase individual agency, to better balance the impact each class can have in a match, to make the experience more "cognitively manageable, and - perhaps most significantly of all - to alleviate extremely long queue times. "Players generally queue Tank less," continues Keller, "leading to longer wait times for all while we wait for a Tank to free up to find a proper match." And with Overwatch 2 requiring one rather than two tanks in competitive play, average wait times for damage and support characters are now "much shorter".

How Many Truck Drivers Does It Take to Screw in a Lightbulb?
I love how involved you can get with your truck, and that means making sure you’re prepared for every eventuality! I’m changing light bulbs, batteries, air filters, wipers, you name it. You definitely do not want to be found without spare parts for these, as I found making sure you take the survival side seriously can be make or break for your business. (Bonus tip, look under the driver’s door for a storage with a radiator cover and tire chains from the start).
There’s No Place Like Truck
Your cab is your home, so it’s worth getting to know it and what you can do there. I had a little explore and I must say, it’s quite cozy. I took a nap, I made a meal with the radio on and I got to know the tools in there too. Knowing my way around the cab became vital on longer challenging winter drives, as it meant I was always prepared to act fast in an emergency. Taking a few minutes to know your cab means the difference between a successful job, or calling in an expensive rescue.
A Little DIY Never Hurt Anyone
Remember how we talked about keeping all those spare parts around? This is where they come in handy. I found fixing things myself meant not only did I save money compared to using the workshop, but I also gained precious experience points that in turn help me gain new skills. Every little bit helps as they say, and fixing your own truck is also incredibly satisfying.
Repair Kit, Repair kit, Wherefor art thou, Repair Kit?
Once you have your workshop ready to go, make sure you buy a repair kit. I foolishly didn’t on my first drive, broke something and saw the error of my ways. Learn from my mistakes, bring the repair kit.
Ready, Steady, Cook
Any good chef will tell you that having a good set of core ingredients is the key to a great meal. I found myself scouring shops for new ingredients to bring back to my HQ where I could use the kitchen to cook myself some great meals to take on the road. Ingredients like reindeer meat and king crab legs can only be used at HQ and gave me three meals at once. That’s huge value for your money as well, giving you another opportunity to collect some experience points.
Repeat After Me – Coffee is Not a Balanced Diet
I know I know, we all love drinking coffee, but everything in moderation! If you’re tired, an energy drink or a coffee is a great quick fix, but I found drinking more than two in a short span actually gave me negative effects (art imitates life). I saw the same thing happen with eating too many hot dogs (don’t judge me), so the lesson here is to eat junk food and drink coffee in moderation.
I’ve Seen the Light
Don’t underestimate how dark it can get when you’re in Alaskan winters. Always carry a flashlight (with some batteries) so you don’t get caught out. I found myself attaching trailers in the dark with the aid of my trusty flashlight as well as carrying out a repair or two.
Staycation or Vacation?
I love my truck, the freedom to rest anywhere on the road and deliver on my own schedule is fantastic. However, I sometimes wanted to have a little extra comfort and that’s where hotels came in. If I rested at a hotel, I’d get all my energy back compared to 75 percent in the truck. It makes sense, a full bed and room will always be better, but it’s nice to have options.
Whatever the Weather, Dress Appropriately
I don’t like being cold. I also don’t like being hot. I like being in a lovely tepid environment, and my character is no different. Stock up on jackets and warm drinks for winter, but ditch them when it comes to summer so you don’t overheat. Both aren’t good for you, and Alaskan seasons will challenge you to adapt.
Thanks for the Memories
I loved traveling around Alaska and like with any trip, one of the best ways to remember the sights was with a camera. An underrated feature for sure, I would recommend seeking out a store that is selling one. I had the best time snapping away as I went through the world of Alaskan Road Truckers: Highway Edition and built the most adorable collection of postcards back at my HQ (the experience points didn’t hurt either).

Maybe you've heard of Kamala Harris; she's the current US vice president and very likely the Democratic party's official presidential nominee for November's US election. But now she's firmly back in the spotlight, the mildly curious case of her secret life in developer Remedy's 2019 action-adventure Control has resurfaced online.
You see, pinned to a whiteboard in an unassuming corner of The Oldest House - the transdimensional Brutalist office block at the heart of Control's story - is a picture of a missing 40-year-old Bureau employee, Jane Farland, lost during one of the House's shifts. Only, Photoshopped eyes aside, Jane Farland is the spitting image of Vice President Harris.
Harris' surprise secret life as a fictitious video game character has been noted before - in this five-year-old Reddit thread, for instance - but the picture has started gaining traction again as Harris once again makes headlines thanks to her likely US presidential bid.

Hello, I’m one of the developers of Exhausted Man. It’s a physics comedy game about exhausted life, where the protagonist is so tired that he can only crawl on the ground but still refuses to sleep.
Reasons for Staying up Late
Anyone who stays up late must have a goal he/she wants to accomplish. The same goes for our two protagonists. The girl is a young office lady. She must get the license which is crucial to her career. The boy is an indie game developer. He has to release his game demo in time.
Although inspired by real life stories, Exhausted Man is not a linear narrative game. Instead, you can play in your own style and have plenty of freedom to decide the character’s fate. Let me introduce some ways you can make the choice and get creative.
What to Do Tonight?
The game uses event cards to represent what the character is going to do tonight. Red cards mean working towards the goal, while blue cards mean having a rest. You can choose what to do at will. While the goal for tonight is clear, we don’t necessarily have to work toward it, right?
Which Item Will Be Featured in the Event?
Before playing an event card, you need to choose the key items in the event. For example, in the event “Playtest”, which is about the “cursed monster” designed by our protagonist, you can choose according to your interpretation of the story, or just by personal preference. The item you choose will become unique in appearance and reflect the consequence of your choice.
How to Set up the Room?
As mentioned above, events require specific items to be played. Therefore, event cards are unlocked by the items placed in the room. At the beginning of the game, you can choose a pre-made room or DIY from an empty room.
For each event you complete, you can place some new items into the room. Choosing the items that are useful for accomplishing the goal will unlock more red event cards. You can also set up the room to suit your taste, or even go against the plot and only place items for rest and entertainment.
What Happens at the End?
Through the loop of “place items – unlock event cards – complete event – earn score points”, the game will eventually lead to an ending. I won’t spoil it here, but I can assure you that each ending is unique and worth experiencing.

This edition of Metal Fest brings two legendary acts whose integration was as epic as their legacy. According to Art Director Andy Dorizas, the team followed the bands’ lore to the letter to ensure that everything was both unique and loyal to the source material.
Starting with the tanks, you have the Thunder Chief Object 452K (Motörhead) and the Dragula T-55AGM (Rob Zombie). These are two collector’s tanks with unlockable discounts (more on that below) that play their associated songs when on display in the garage ꟷ “Ace of Spades” for the Thunder Chief and “Dragula” for the Dragula T-55AGM. The same will also happen with the band-specific Skins that will be released in special Metal Fest bundles.
New Commanders
Metal Fest also brings three new 3D Commanders to the fray. Who wouldn’t want to have Warpig, Lemmy Kilmister, and Rob Zombie as 3D Hero Commanders by their side?
Yep, you read that right. World of Tanks Modern Armor worked directly with Motörhead to create a true-to-life version of the band’s legendary frontman. The band was thrilled to be involved in integrating the Lemmy’s legacy into a video game – something that he really enjoyed
Bringing Warpig to life has an even wackier story. Audio Director Brendan Blewett says that when working with Motörhead, the band contributed several ideas around the voice design for the Warpig 3D Commander, based on Motorhead’s iconic mascot of the same name. They wanted a character that was a cross between a wild, free-wheeling-no-rules biker, and an English bulldog.
This will be the first time that fans and players hear Warpig’s voice, so it needed to feel authentic to the character and the band. Following the directions of Motörhead, Blewett recorded hours of his sister in-law’s puggle (Ollie) snorting and grunting, and mixed them together with a British voice actor’s lines to bring the band’s mascot to life as an imposing 3D Hero Commander.
As for the Rob Zombie Commander, the man himself picked the in-game 3D model he liked the most, according to Dorizas.

For this event, choose between Team Rob Zombie or Team Motörhead and earn points with the community toward team-specific rewards and discounts for both the Thunder Chief Object 452K (pictured) and the Dragula T-55AGM. If you side with Rob Zombie, you’ll earn the HMH AMX Modèle 58 as your final reward, and if you pick Motörhead, you’ll receive the HMH Huntsman Centurion. Over 13 minutes of leaked gameplay from Star Wars Outlaws is currently making the rounds online.
Some of the footage shows the game's opening scenes, although there are no major spoilers. The footage was previously available to view on YouTube, but has since been pulled by Ubisoft. (There was little doubt as to the footage's authenticity, though the company's own copyright claim confirms the video as real.)
Other clips show off the game's aerial combat, along with footage of Star Wars' blackjack-like card game Sabacc.

Infamous internet animation series Skibidi Toilet, made using Valve's Source Filmmaker software and featuring assets from Half-Life 2 and Counter-Strike, is in discussions to be turned into a Michael Bay movie.
Bay, who directed disaster film blockbusters such as Armageddon and Pearl Harbour, is reportedly in talks to launch a Skibidi Toilet film and TV franchise with former Paramount Pictures boss Adam Goodman.
"We are absolutely in talks right now, both on the television side and the earliest conversations right now on the film side," Goodman told Variety. "But it's not a be-all, end-all for us."

The long-awaited post-apocalyptic shooter was slated to arrive on September 5 but will now launch on November 20 to give developer GSC Game World more time to address technical issues.</p> <p>Additionally, the studio announced it will release its first-ever Developer Deep Dive video to give a comprehensive behind-the-scenes look at the game. The video will feature new gameplay footage, overviews of its world and locations, a full walkthrough of a story quest, and developer interviews. The biggest disruption was <a href="https://www.gameinformer.com/2022/03/03/gsc-game-world-puts-stalker-2-development-on-sidelines-amidst-ongoing-ukraine-conflict">Russia’s invasion of Ukraine</a>, where GSC Game World is based, which upended development and forced the staff to relocate to Prague, Czech Republic (though some team members actively fought and <a href="https://gamerant.com/stalker-developer-killed-ukraine-vladimir-fresh-yezhov/">sadly perished </a>in the war). Despite all of this, the game has managed to come together, and we even played it during <a href="https://www.gameinformer.com/sgf-2024/2024/06/09/the-coolest-games-we-played-at-summer-game-fest-2024-and-more">Summer Game Fest</a> this year.</p> <p>S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl launches on November 20 for Xbox Series X/S and PC. It will launch day one on Xbox Game Pass. If nothing else, this delay gives players more time to catch up with the <a href="https://www.gameinformer.com/xbox-partner-preview/2024/03/06/original-stalker-legends-of-the-zone-trilogy-is-available-on-xbox">Xbox re-release of the original games</a> that arrived earlier this year. </p>

A Steam app for Sony's PlayStation VR2 headset is due for release on 6th August.
The free, official app will allow Steam users to play games on the virtual reality headset, as well as use the PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers.
Use of the app will also require the PC adapter, which was unveiled in June and will release on 7th August.

A free demo for Rise of the Ronin is now available on PlayStation 5 via the PlayStation store.
The demo allows you to battle it out with Gonzo (we won't say any more in case of spoilers), giving a taste of what lies ahead.
You'll then be able to carry your character and progress to the full game, should you choose to purchase it.

Monster Train, the acclaimed roguelike deckbuilder from developer Shiny Shoe, is making its way to PlayStation 5 today, 25th July, some four years after its original release.
Monster Train sees players attempting to restore Hell's inferno after it freezes over - a task requiring them to ride a train carrying a burning pyre deep into the heart of Hell.
At first glance, it's all a bit Slay the Spire, with branching pathways providing choices on how to progress and level up each run. But the proper fun comes in combat, where the real-time card battling sees players unleashing their hellish minions against the forces of heaven - gradually moving between multiple floors of the titular train as they try and defend the pyre on top to win.

UPDATE 26/07/24: A Eurogamer reader has reached out to clarify some of the wording from yesterday's report, regarding the man who threatened Nintendo staff and his sentancing. Our reader kindly explained the Kyoto District Court has sentenced Kenshin Kazama to a year's prison sentence, suspended for four years.
This means, unless he commits some other offense, it's likely he will not be jailed immediately for threatening Nintendo. The original story continues below.

Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl, the long-in-the-works sequel to developer GSC Game World's cult-classic 2007 post-apocalyptic horror shooter, has been delayed again. It's now due to launch on 20th November, giving the studio "breathing room to address technical issues".
Word of the delay surfaced on reddit today from a user who said they'd been emailed about the date change by GSC Game World. The news has now been publicly confirmed by the developer in a video titled "Really, again?" posted to YouTube, below.
Stalker 2 has, of course, had quite the journey to release. It was originally set to arrive in 2012, having been announced by GSC Game World two years prior, but those plans were eventually shelved following troubles at the studio. It was a bit of a surprise, then, when Stalker 2 re-emerged in 2018 with a new release window of 2021.

Lego has revealed a new set in the Sonic the Hedgehog line, this time a bust of nemesis Shadow the Hedgehog.
The set is over eight inches tall, consisting of 720 pieces, and will be released on 1st October for £59.99.
It "captures the bold colouring and fierce expressions of Shadow" reads the description and is specifically made for adults as a display piece.

Lego has revealed a 2D-style Super Mario World set featuring Mario and Yoshi.
The set is viewable today at San Diego Comic-Con, and official product images of it are already circulating online (thanks, Jay's Brick Blog).
Reportedly, the set will launch on 1st October and feature 1215 pieces. We'll update again when it's officially announced with details of pricing.

Forthcoming action-RPG Phantom Blade Zero will have a seamless, non-linear map "just like the Souls games before Elden Ring."
That's according to the game's director, who (ironically) goes by the moniker Soulframe, as interviewed by Games Radar discussing its world design.
"It's just like the old Souls games," said Soulframe. "You move around and explore in a seamless map, it's just not a huge open-world map. But every region is connected together seamlessly."

In a pleasantly surprising move, BioWare will launch Dragon Age: The Veilguard natively via Steam on PC, meaning there's no need to download and install the fussy EA App.
What's more, the game will arrive verified for Steam Deck, so you can continue your quest to defend Thedas while on the bus, train or toilet.
"There's a few more surprises in store for later this summer," BioWare's Michael Gamble teased via social media platform X, sharing the news. "Here's the first from the DAV team."
