  1. If you'd prefer to watch and/or listen, you can find the companion video here Introduction With the announcement of ‘Die Maschine’, we received our formative introduction to the Zombies Storyline of Black Ops Cold War - a sequel to our previous, ten year story - dubbed ‘The Dark Aether Storyline’. For those who were paying a modicum of attention, the notion of a “Dark Aether” should be at least somewhat familiar, as it is referenced explicitly in the ending of Tag Der Toten. This, however, is far from the first explicit mention - and by delving into the realm of allusion and

  2. Hello all, Tac here. October 20, 2010 was my first day on this forum, right before Black Ops and quite near the beginning of my comprehensible life (26 now this month). Sometimes that doesn't seem very crazy to me and then other days it seems simply incredible, I've made as close of connections to people on this forum as my closest IRL friends (and fuck off if you sneer at that like it can't be true). Per usual I feel I've thought about this post a lot as it approached but as I've come to create it, I'm more at a loss for words than expected. Real quick on that point I want to shout out @Ehjoo

  4. Hello, This is sort of a re-introduction post actually. I was an active member here a few years ago under the name "Nightmare Voyager" and then I left because I sorta got disgruntled with the Internet in general. I wasn't entirely sure I would come back, I didn't feel a need to for a long time because I very much distanced myself from the Zombies community by then. However, with the advent of the Dark Aether Story, and me slowly falling back into browsing the forum and watching the Podcast, I kind of had to come back. The Zombies community seems to always be overwhelme

  5. Hello everyone, hoping you have found your way into October without any complications. Just wanted to let you fine folks know that this month there won't be a proper user of the month. Activity just doesn't really warrant that, but don't worry if you have posted a bunch of stuff this month. Next time we will take this month into consideration as well, when nominating. So see you in November, wash your hands, wear a mask and look forward to Halloween. Truth be told I hate, but even I have to be a party pooper from time to time.

  6. We're merely a month away from Black Ops - Cold War's release, and excitement is running high around here and in the general fanbase. Zombies looks to be a very interesting take with a lot of gameplay innovation, MP seems to be doing very well in the current beta, and the Campaign looks to be an exciting thrill-ride, like always. Look, I hate to be negative, because I know that Raven, Treyarch, and everyone else involved has put a ton of work into this game, and in a shorter time-frame than usual. But, something just felt very off about the reveal trailer for Cold War. It took me a while to pu

Wow, After 7 Years of making THIS thread, which was a new discovery in TRANZIT of an age old easter egg that pretty much went unconfirmed & unsolved since Der Riese, I think I can finally put to rest the appearence of the "J.D." initials and the word "DELGADO" that appears on the Chalkboard. I stumbled across this BO3 texture (which I think is from Origins Chronicals - i_p7_zm_ori_debris_paper_names_c A List of Treyarch Dev names John "DELGADO" https://www.artstation.com/jdelgado01

That's right, many years from now, backwards in time, it was the day of birth of Tacolai @Tac, famous member of the Podcast der Toten trinity! Let's check out some photos of him, see how he changed over time. This was baby Tac, during MW2 He grew a little older during the Black Ops days, it was here where he got in touch with CoDZ. Still a todler... He did a metamorphosa to a candle at MW3 again, but older he became! This was Tac's tough youngster life phase at Black Ops 2. Getting mo

  9. So recently @RadZakpakshowed me a quote from Tag, which hopefully will allow you to see the storyline in a new light. Here is the quote from Tag, coming from Samantha: This quote compacts a lot. Recall the SoE note from Richtofen: So here we are introduced to the idea that there is a string holding the universe together. As Richtofen describes it, 115 is the fabric of space-time, the multiverse, what holds everything together. String theory, of course, is a well researched topic in physics. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/String_theory In t

  10. This is just a short talk about the role of fungi in Zetsubou no Shima (I was bored during my lecture). Something you should know about fungi is their ability to mutate, very fast. As they reproduce with thousands of spores, there always is a high chance that one or several of the spores is genetically randomly mutated. If this mutant is beneficial to a certain (hazardous) environment, the mutant will thrive and reproduce even more. This is also why it is so difficult to develop fungicides to fight pathogenic fungi: resistance is not uncommon under mutants. Another example of a pre

  11. Is it coincidence that Mob of the Dead, introducing us to the concept of an eternal cycle, was released between the Victis maps? Let's start with the hypothesis: No, it is not. Mob showed us very clearly and directly what was going on in Tranzit, Die Rise and Buried: The characters stuck in an endless loop. A bit more far away, but even Tranzit itself can be seen as a metaphor for this idea, as the map itself is one big cycle with the characters trapped in it. T.E.D.D. told us all along: "Error. Error. Bus transponder not operational. Default into program route cycle" - TEDD

  12. As always I can't do a full analysis, but I'll try to cover this sufficiently. One of the most important things to consider is that Victis appears in the same model the cryogenic chambers, as seen in DE and the alternative loading screen, showcasing Ultimis Richtofen with the rest of Primis: Recall the following cipher from Classified, showing a bad ending in which Dempsey dies, "all hope is lost", with Richtofen waking up the test subjects being the only hope left. Without a full analysis, this is going with a strong contrast to the other ci

First of all, I ask you to play this music while reading this thread. The mystery began with the Shangri-La mountains, something Jimmy Zielinski, the head Zombies developer at that time, started tweeting about one day. There is one mountain in Shangri La that is especially striking, seen from the rope bridge above the waterfall. This mountain range seems to resemble the mountain in the map’s load

(If you'd prefer to watch and/or listen, you can find the companion video here) After some thought, I felt my prior thread required a sequel, as there was just too much mythological background left unexplored. As such, I strongly recommend you visit the prior post in order to make sure you can follow along with this one. Specifically, we will be examining the mythological backdrop to the Aether and Dark Aether, specifically from the Norse myths, and how this can be used to help us going forward. Disclaimer: I am not claiming that any of this is canon, merely an inspiration for elem

POINT OF CONTACT Within Die Maschine’s intro cutscene and reveal, we are shown multiple shots of an “anomaly” or “rift”. Whilst we cannot say for 100% certainty, it is more than likely that this is the Dark Aether’s breach into our world. CORRUPTING FORCE As discussed in a prior post of mine, The Dark Aether is an eldritch force of chaos and of entropy, and within it lie all the beings formerly existing within the Aether. Great analysis & video @caljitsu When you say (As per the Richtofen quote) "North & South, Dark & Light", do you think this is a reference to "As above, so below" Or more toward the Madame Blavatsky (Helena Petrovna Blavatsky) - Theosophy of The Secret Doctrine (which has been theorised in Zombies since World at War / Black Ops era days here on CoDz.com)

  21. By this logic a black hole would allow potentially infinite Aetherial Energy into the material universe! Seeing as black holes are a sigularity and have infinite density. (debated now but accepted at the time the story was written I think) So that explains how Gersch device teleporting works! I just wonder how Gersch got trapped in the Aether, where in all other cases we pop out of another singularity somewhere else. Great thread/video, taught me heaps!

  22. Ok so first off, an introduction to Projeckt Riese. Between 1943 and 1945, Nazi Germany spent countless resources not excluding their own prisoners (many if not most lost their lives in the process) to create seven underground structures within Germany-occupied Poland, as well as correlating air raid structures aboveground that would lead into these underground structures and labyrinths. None of these seven projects were ever completed; only crumbling remains of hardly-reinforced tunnel systems remain today of the underground systems, however this is irrelevant in this scenario because we are

  23. Figured I'd weigh in here with something that I don't think has been talked about in the thread as of yet. Element 115 is "the fabric of reality". It is, in essence, small, physical manifestations of Aetherial Energy. However there is an important distinction to be made here. With the Elemental Shard, you have a piece of Element 115 that, through binding four souls to it using the Seal of Duality, becomes intrinsically linked to the Aether. It is, in essence, a physical manifestation of the entire Aether - and as such, it is able to produce Aetherial Energy to a limitless degree.

  29. I like that idea how the random weapon principle could work the same as the Mystery Box. Adding to this, an inscription of the KT-4 / Masamune reads "731細菌戦の研究機関", roughly translating to "Research Institution 731 of Bacterial Warfare". Unit 731 is an umberella organization under which Division 9 falls, but I found it interesting they explecitely mentioned 'bacterial'. Several Unit 731 divisions have created experimental weapons regarding bacteria, such as the Bubonic Plague, Anthrax and Syphilis. I found it interesting they decided to add this name of 'Bacterial Warfare' on a weapo

We are also told that "The Lantern is a vessel for energy - the energy contained within all matter" We know the "energy within all matter", the "vital energy" is indeed Aetherial Energy - now if the lantern is also fueled by the energy of souls, it makes sense both from a narrative and from an in-universe perspective for these to be the same thing. Furthermore, when you bring in the idea of the Apothicons feeding upon this "spark of life", it makes far m

Upon first hearing this I didn't think too much about it, but after re watching the trailer again - something stood out about here scene in the phone box. Also, Richkiller, thank you for reminding me of that Alcatraz alternative loading screen. This genuine makes me think the testsubjects Primis + Ultimis Richtofen may not be Ultimis, as I always thought, but Victis! The only thing I'm not fully sure of is that the characters stepping through the portal are Primis with Ultimis Richtofen, or Primis as we see them in BotD's intro. The KT-4 / Masamune also plays a big role in the evolutionary path certain plants take, creating even more diverse plants with better effects such as the Drop Plant that can give better guns or even an AA Bullet, presumably under the same principles the Mystery Box uses, the Perk Fruit which empowers the consumer or makes them uncontrollably vomit, and the Imprint Pod which literally makes a functional clone in stasis of whatever imprints on it!
