The Vril Sphere, also referred to as the Vril Egg, the Artifact, and the Devil's Egg or Egg of Dishonor by Takeo, is a spherical object that can be encountered in the map Moon. It is essential for the map's Easter Egg Quest, Richthofen's Grand Scheme.

Overview

The Sphere is a metallic ball approximately the size of a human head, with intricate engravings on its surface. It will appear when Excavator Pi has drilled into Tunnel 6. Once knifed or shot, it starts to randomly float through Griffin Station, eventually ending up in the Moon Pyramid Device's front panel. As both the MPD and the sphere are connected with Vril and the Sphere fits perfectly into the panel, it appears that the Sphere has a central role in the usage of the MPD, acting as a key. Another possibility is that this artifact itself is the device that yields great power, with the MPD acting as a conduit and opening a portal for physical beings to enter.

After Richtofen's betrayal, Maxis convinces Takeo, Nikolai, and Dempsey to retrieve the artifact using the Gersh Device. This places the artifact into the rockets that are launched to Earth, resulting in a large explosion that causes the connection between Richtofen and Earth to sever.

Theories

Maxis' soul, after he died in Griffin Station, resides in the Vril Sphere: https://www.callofdutyzombies.com/topic/155166-maxis-endgame-koschei-and-moons-vril-artifact/ The presence of the Vril Sphere in the rockets is responsible for the enormous magnitude of the impacts of the rockets: https://www.callofdutyzombies.com/topic/184308-maxiss-grand-scheme/?tab=comments#comment-1763296

Trivia

  • Upon no-clipping Moon, it is revealed that when Ultimis teleports the Vril Sphere into the rockets, there are now three Vril Spheres, one for each rocket.
  • In Der Eisendrache, the Summoning Key is used as a substitute for the Vril Sphere when the MPD is teleported to the castle.
