Wonder Weapon Bracket Round 1.0

Back again with another bracket tournament, this time for Wonder Weapons in Zombies. How do I define Wonder Weapon? For the purposes of this bracket, I've included weapons from both Aether and Chaos maps, and excluded specialist weapons, equipment, and grenades because including those would make the bracket way too long. Not to mention, they may be worth a bracket of their own.

Now, I was skeptical about doing a bracket for Wonder Weapons, because realistically, you can determine the winners based on just how powerful the weapons are and that's no fun. So I urge you to vote not based on effectiveness, but rather on design, history, nostalgia, use in the story or map, relevance to easter eggs, whatever. Just don't pick purely based on damage.

Without further ado, here is the starting bracket:

We're splitting round 1 into two parts, with seven match-ups each before we move on to round 2. Here are the rules in case you are not informed:

First, I will provide a list with matchups, for example:

1. Monkey Bomb vs Homonculus

You would make your choice by replying with your pick and a reason why, something like:

1. Homonculus. Monkey have no honor!

Your reasoning can be anything from personality, development, comedy, voice performance, or just how they look!

Focus on the design, history, and relevance of the wonder weapon as opposed to just damage.

At the end of the week I will tally votes and advance winners to the next round.

Here are our first choices for the undead onslaught:

1. Fire Bow vs Apothicon Servant

2. Staff of Lightning vs GKZ-45 Mk3

3. 31-79 JGb215 vs V-R11

4. Ray Gun Mk II (plus Alpha Omega variants) vs Death of Orion

5. Wunderwaffe DG-2 vs Staff of Wind

6. Ray Gun vs Kraken

7. Scavenger vs Paralyzer

Choose wisely!

1. Apothican Servant: An organic version of the Gersch device? With moving tentacles and eyes? I'll take it, espessially since I found Elemental Weapons lazy anyway.

2. Staff of Lightning: Hehheh, okay, sometimes Elemental Weapons are cool. This conduit of Vril used 115 in the exact way as Richtofen's DG-2 did.

3. Really tough choice. I like all the old wonderweapons having an original effect and being not perfect. I'll go for 31-79 jGb215 purely because walking over baby zombies is fun. Now I sound just like Richtofen

4. I cannot chose, as I've never played any Chaos map

5. The DG-2, of course, where it not purely because of it's grand backstory. I also like @NaBrZHunter's pseudosciencific analysis of it.

6. Same as 4

7. Paralyzer. I think that is my favourite wonderweapon ever. I mean, flying is such a unique and fun feature, the gun looks cool and it was kinda the last of the weird, original-effects wonderweapons.

1. I'm inclined to say Apothicon Servant because the weapon is incredibly efficient and reminds me of my favorite equipment, the Gersh Devices. On the other hand, it is kind of boring in function and not that interesting. The Fire Bow has a challenging, somewhat fun quest to acquire it and I love the effect it has on zombies, trapping them in molten rock then burning them where they stand. It's got a cool design and a cool official name (Rune Prison).

2. GKZ-45 Mk3 wins this one, despite Lightning being my favorite staff. I'm a sucker for weapons with multiple functions that reward you for knowing how to use them effectively rather than just for pressing the trigger. Completely unique in function, and the Mk3's reload animation is to die for. Thank you Peter McCain.

3. This is a real tough one as both are surrounded in mystery and very unique in how they can be used. I have to give the edge to 31-79 JGb though as it manages to be the effective, fun to use, and requires some thought to operate. Plus those sails on the back are cool.

4. Perhaps it is heresy, but I really think the Death of Orion deserves it. I mean it's a damn scorpion that shoots lightning and wriggles around in your hand: maxresdefault.jpg

It also reminds me of the Geonosian laser weapon from Star Wars Republic Commando. The Mk3 has a cool design but is pretty uninteresting beyond that.

5. There's a reason Richtofen is so proud of the Wunderwaffe DG-2. It's powerful as hell and hits that sweet spot between gritty realism and science fiction. Staff of Wind has a cool design but kind of uninteresting to use.

6. The Ray Gun wins for a multitude of reasons that I'm sure everyone knows. The Kraken is pretty cool to use and watch operate but at the end of the day it is just a big fucking cannon.

7. Tough because the Scavenger is incredibly satisfying to use, but the Paralyzer's functionality as a weapon to help you traverse the map is a neat idea. Its design is incredibly strange too and makes me want to know more about it.

1. Apothicon Servant. The fire bow isn't great gameplay wise and basically is just the Sparrow from MP with a fire effect on it. The Apothicon is an awesome original design and is also a great    weapon. The Rev version gets waaaaay too OP for me though.

2. Staff of Lightning- probably my favorite staff. Mark III isn't bad but it's also basically just a gersh device.

3. 31-79 JGB- The VR11 is basically useless to me as a story player despite being more interesting story-wise.

4. Tough one but I'll take the Mark IIs just because the Death of Orion takes too long to kill which is quite annoying. Both are very well designed though.

5. Gotta go with the classic, DG-2. Awesome WW, super fun but not ridiculously OP, and the great story of it. WInd staff is a thundergun knock off.

6. Kraken is cool but the Ray Gun is just an absolute classic.

7. The paralyzer is close to the top for me, so I'll definitely take that one.

Sorry, Rad, for being late. Don't hunt me down please.

1. Apothicon Servant

It is a lovecraftian squid monster covering your arm, it doesn't get much better and funnier than that.

2. GKZ-45 Mk3

One of the more creative Wunderwaffen, it definitely gets bonus points for that and it is fun to use.

3. 31-79 JGb215

My boy, JGB proves though it does get better than the servant. L.O.V.E. this one kicking tiny zombies in the face for the first time is pretty cool, but you gotta semtex the horde first and then pull the trigger on the weapon, for maximum efficiency. (Lenne over here, bringing you fucking tipps and tricks on a 9 year old game.) Also bonus points for being the best wonder weapon until every WW could shit out drops.

4. Ray Gun Mk II (plus Alpha Omega variants) vs Death of Orion

5. Wunderwaffe DG-2

DG2 cause it has that nostalgia bonus and I never even used the Staff of wind.

6. Ray Gun

Here I can't decide. I'd say Ray Gun up until BO2 cause after that they made it shit, but the Kraken isn't really my cup of tea, so I am gonna pick the Ray Gun, cause of the backstory and the meme.

7. Scavenger

Scavenger's explosion sound is glorious and it is fun to use.
