A summary of the entire story! Note the word summary, as there are a lot of less important points I haven't included: the story of ''Red Riding Hood'', the history of Hyperborea and the Aryans and the backgrounds of the characters. Also note: Alot of text I have copy/pasted of CoD Wiki pages. All I did is pasting it all together and rewriting it a bit. Still: Enjoy!

In Ancient Times, the mythical  city of Thule, or Hyperborea, was believed to be located in the Far North, actually laying in a large cave system underneath Antarctica. It was thought to be an entrance to Hollow Earth and home of the original Aryan race. The Thulean civilisation was  ruled by the allmighty God-King, however millennia ago, in prehistoric times, he was slayed and sealed by the original Raven Lords: An'heist, Talrek, Lu'roth and Sang'ket, chosen by the original First Rook. While his physical manifestion was gone, his entity remained to exist in a force later known as Geistkraft.

Many years later, in the 1149, the count of Zwaben, Frederick ''Barbarossa'' the 1st, retreated from the Mediterrean Sea after a failed Second Crusade. After a set of major storms and navigational errors, his ship ran aground on the shore of Antarctica, making him the first man in the Western world discovering the South Pole. It was here where he found a Thulian sword, which he later used the sword to become the new Holy Roman Emperor, in 1155, and under the influence of the God-King planned to conquer the whole world. However, Barbarossa was slain by his royal guards, who have been chosen as the new Raven Lords by Nerthus, the new Rook, later known as a Germanic deity. The sword was disassembled and the pieces hidden.

A couple of hundred years later, in the 19th Century, the family Fischer owned a toy shop in the Austria: father Heinz Fischer, and his children Klaus and Marie. In his adulthood, Klaus studied at Heidelberg University, until he had to come home and take over his father's toy shop, due to him falling ill. Klaus was furious to find out that his mentor, Professor Lenard, had also retired, crushing his hopes of contributing to the German scientific renaissance. He also came into conflict with his sister, Marie, over their views on the Nazi party. Marie foresaw that dark times were coming in Central Europe, so she became an American citizen and ended up joining the British Office of Strategic Services. Klaus, however, was convinced that there is hope within the Nazi party and kept living in Austria.

He would eventually regain hope when workers in his hometown village Mittelburg found an ancient artifact, the hilt of Emperor Frederick Barbarossa's sword, in the nearby salt mines, though protected by a mysterious magnetic force. He was convinced that he could present this artifact to Hitler and prove his worth. After using his connections to contact the Nazis, the Ahnenerbe, a Nazi scientific and expeditionary group specifically doing research to the Aryan race and Germany's history, arrived in the village. The Ahnenerbe was undertaking expeditions all over the globe: Tibet, Greenland, Egypt, South America and Antarctica. They believe the mythical land of Thule is home to the Aryans, and desperately want to find it. Klaus was introduced to Doctor Peter Straub, one of the founders of Ahnenerbe, operating for the Fuhrer with the sole objective to create a type of soldier that does not rest, fear or shy away from the shadow of death. Straub then put Mittelburg on lockdown, and prevented all residents from leaving. This caused Klaus to question his loyalty.

Despite Barbarossa's hilt was being protected by the magnetic shield, Straub and his men were able to siphon vast amounts of energy from the hilt. During an early experiment to draw power from the hilt, a cable overheated and snapped, striking two guards and instantly killing them. However, they soon began to violently twitch and reanimate before getting up and walking towards Straub with the intention of killing him. However, more guards arrived and put the two down. With this incident, Straub soon discovered the key to completing his task, as well as a vision of the Führer's future.

Dubbing the new form of energy obtained from the hilt 'Geistkraft', he discovered that it can be conducted through the human nervous system, which activates the most primitive parts of the human cerebellum. This energy is what 'preserves' the undead, as well as drive them. Straub also discovers that by triggering the pain receptors of the corpses, he can augment the zombie's strength and speed.Klaus attempted to prove himself to Straub, by presenting his earlier works with Lenard to him, only to be met with imprudence from the latter, who claims his works were "poorly documented" and "amateur". Straub also talked of Klaus' and Marie's father, Heinz, and ridiculed him for his shift from weapon design to toy making. Though Klaus accepted to work with the doctor, he felt regret for not having listened to his father.

Having realized Straub's true intentions, and the conflict between him and Major General Heinz Richter, Klaus took advantage and began to secretly sabotage Straub's work. In the process, he discovered hidden secrets that lie in the art pieces stolen by the Nazis, as well as clues as to the reason behind the separation of the sword's pieces. He secretly passed information over to the Allied O.S.S., the organisation his sister Marie was working for. Unfortunately for him, Straub encountered his notes, and began to exploit the idea by looking into the stolen art pieces. Klaus also became aware of other forces who know of the sword's power. Finally, he took parts of Straub's research, including the Tesla Gun, and hid them all around Mittelburg, hoping that Marie would return and find them to battle against the horrors inflicted here. He then made recordings, summarizing all that has happened after Marie's departure, in hopes that she would find them later on.

Klaus' final attempt at sabotaging Straub's work was to release his most powerful weapon, the Panzermörder. However, Straub managed to stop him, and decided to punish him by clamping his arms onto the creature's chest, effectively fusing both of them together. The Panzermörder, however, broke free, and roamed the town and its vicinity.

Now O.S.S. operative, Marie Fischer is sent on a mission to Mittelburg, Bavaria by her commanding officer, Major Hank Rideau, to retrieve lost artifacts stolen by the Nazis for experimentation, as well as to rescue her brother Klaus. Marie is assisted on her mission by a group of MFAA operatives including Scottish ex-art thief Drostan Hynd, Art Historian-turned-French Resistance fighter Olivia Durant and United States Army captain Jefferson Potts, all of whom have significant knowledge on the stolen arts and relics. However, on their train ride to Mittelburg, the group is attacked by an unknown colossal being. Marie is stranded from the others, and finds herself taking temporary refuge at a small farmhouse nearby, where she holds out against hordes of dead German soldiers reanimated by the Geistkraft energy, until she is able to make her way to the village.

After reuniting with the other three, Marie and the group proceed further down into the village's hidden bunker, where Straub has set up his laboratory. There, they then discover the horrific experiments that Dr. Straub and Richter conducted. The group continues fending off against Straub's undead horde, as well as Richter, whose obsession on the weaponization of the Geistkraft energy puts him at odds with Straub. Eventually, the group recovers the artifact. They then encounter the creature from earlier, a humanoid-shaped amalgam of numerous body parts sewn and stitched together: the Panzermörder, with Klaus fused into the creature's chest. Using special magnetized batteries, the group manages to stun the Panzermörder and attach the batteries onto it, causing it to be attracted to Richter's zeppelin flying above the village. The Zeppelin explodes, killing the Panzermörder and freeing Klaus from its body. The hilt's power revives Klaus, causing him to be possessed by an unknown entity, the Rook. Klaus staggers into the village, and tells Marie and the others to continue fighting, and that the emperor, must never return, before activating a fire trap, seemingly killing himself.

Days later, the group receives intel on Dr. Straub's current whereabouts, leading them to the remote Heligoland islands where Straub has been continuing his experiments with the Geistkraft energy. It is revealed that it serves as a place for Straub to store his "children", the Meuchlers, to which he has been doing for years, as he is preparing an assault on Britain, Operation Sea Lion. On the Island, he had placed several Corpse Gates around the island, acting as special doors that he could access with his recently-acquired head of Richter.

When the MFFA group arrive at Heligoland, they come into struggle with the undead Nazi army. Drostan shares with the group details of his employment by Heinrich Himmler to search for an artifact on this island, and how he narrowly escaped death at the Nazi's hands while also recovering several ancient scrolls. Himmler believed Heligoland was the German Atlantis, a nexus point of pure electromagnetic energy: Geistkraft. Upon solving several riddles and puzzles, the MFFA group finds a ritual chamber dedicated to the goddess Nerthus, where they come upon a group of Meuchlers worshipping her, as she was one of the Rooks. After defwating the creatures, the MFFA acquires the Pommel of Barbarossa, the second piece the sword. They then call in an airstrike to destroy the facility on the island, leading to the infamous Heligoland bombing of 18 April 1945, while escaping on one of Dr. Straub's zeppelins as he and his forces return to Berlin in response to Hitler's call for rescue.

The Zeppelins arrive in Berlin hours later as the Red Army advances its invasion into the city. Realizing that they will be outmatched by the sheer numbers of Dr. Straub's undead army, the four agents grab onto one of the zeppelin's anchors and crash-lands into the city below. After assisting a Red Army soldier named Mikhail, as well as a surviving smuggler in the war-torn, undead infested city, the four agents are able to secure three special melee weapons. Using these weapons, the four agents then uncover a hidden courtyard with a statue of Barbarossa, where the blade of his sword is kept. With all of the pieces of the sword collected, the crew infiltrates Dr. Straub's Zeppelin for a final showdown. However, Dr. Straub is overwhelmed and brutally murdered by his own twisted creations after the MFAA re-routes the power in the zeppelin. The crew then battles Dr. Straub's latest experiment, the Stadtjäger, where afterwards they then make it back into the city, waiting for an extraction by Major Rideau.

In the wake of Straub's demise, the undead army is unleashed all across Europe. While the Nazis claim to control it, both Axis and Allied lines are broken and scattered across the continent. United States President Harry S. Truman authorizes Rideau, now a general, to form the Bureau of Archaic Technologies, a special task force comprised of various elite allied agents in order to investigate Geistkraft as well as combat the undead. Geistkraft was effectively used in the research to Nuclear weapons in Los Alamos, New Mexico.

Rideau orders several of the bureau's operatives, among who is the newly recruited Mikhail, to transport the pieces of the sword via different routes to New Swabia. On the way from Luxembourg to Malaga, Southern Spain, they encounter resistance from the undead army in Northern Spain, and later on the U.S.S. Mount Olympus across the Atlantic Ocean.

Unable to reassemble the Sword of Barbarossa on their own, Marie and Drostan deduce that their only option is to find the legendary forge of Thule. The two of them, along with Jefferson and Olivia, then head to New Swabia, Antarctica, where increased Nazi- and Ahnenerbe activity is discovered during the American Operation Highjump, in search of the forge, accompanied by several B.A.T. agents among who are Mikhail and Saburov. The crew finds the forge, and upon the deciphering of a few ancient Thulian runes, they finally reassemble the sword. The crew manages to escape the forge as it collapses onto itself, unbeknown to them however, the Geistkraft energy begins to flow intensively beneath the ground.

On their flight back from New Swabia, the crew's plane was taken down by a surge of Geistkraft near the Ronne Ice Shelf. They then find themselves in the lost city of Thule, the source of the Geistkraft energy. The group uncovers ancient weapons once used by the Raven Lords, elite warriors who are meant to bring balance to the cycle of life and death. The group then uses the weapons against a newly encountered undead horde.

A rescue party was sent by Rideau, led by Vivian Harris came across Saburov who told them what happened, Harris, whose mind was corrupted by the God-King, took the sword with her to bring it back to him. The God-king was awoken. It claimed to be the influence behind Doctor Straub and Emperor Barbarossa as well. As it first seemed to overpower the group, Klaus, reborn as the new Rook, arrived and bestowed the group with Geistkraft and the titles of the Raven Lords, allowing them to defeat the God-King. General Rideau contacted the group revealing his true status as a member of the Order of The Ravens, an ancient cult formed in order to serve the Raven Lords. He then insisted that the group embraces their new powers and destiny and lead the order in the ongoing battle against the remaining forces of the by Geistkraft rezurrected undead.

Thinking about this story gave me the idea that Geistkraft is very similar to Vril.

Both forces are capable of healing and rezurrecting the undead. Both forces are originating from civilisations connected with Hollow Earth. The Thule society, the organisation behind the idea that the Aryabs originate from the mythical Thule, sought connections with Vril. Geistkraft seems to flow through the human nerves and brain. It seems like, at least, Sledgehammer found inspiration at Vril.
