Happy 5th Year Anniversary, Origins!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, Meh here.

I know I'm a day early on this one, I know this post might be less important, but I want to throw it up because, well...

ORIGINS IS TURNING 5 YEARS OLD TOMORROW!

All GIFs aside... what a map. We've had a lot of maps around in Zombies - god knows that Origins probably isn't the most impacting of all of them - but I feel it right we talk about just how much this map impacted the community. I mean, it's practically one of those things that took Zombies out of the shadows, and made it as big as it was today. Among with what we would see come of the Blundell maps, Origins set a standard for Zombies, one I feel we see reflected in the games today (be it good or bad).

A simplicity, or a dynamic, y'know? It brought a larger scale to Zombies - and no, I'm not talking about the Giant Robots! It handled the whole thing... exceedingly well for its time.

I dunno. Maybe I'm holding it in higher regard than most.

But hey, don't let me own the post here! Let's celebrate the anniversary!

Feel free to share the most memorable moments from this map, or the coolest you've had!

As for me... per aspera ad astra.

Happy birthday.

It certainly wasn't love at first sight, but after a year or so and playing with EJ, I finally learned to appreciate this map from a gameplay perspective. Certainly my favorite BO II map and I still have that round 50 in sight. Sadly I died on round 49 and ever since then, I didn't really have the drive to try properly again, but that is just my problem, I still love this map a lot.

I have similar affections for the map.  When I first started playing it, I was horrible.  Everyone had to carry me through the Easter Egg.  I still play the map to this day and me and my wife two manned the Easter Egg recently.  Looking back, I can't imagine how I sucked so hard but all things come to pass eventually.  Origins, for me, is a love-hate relationship.  I love this map for Easter Egg runs but loath any kind of survival.  Mud gets to be a real killer the higher in rounds I go.

I would certainly say Origins is one of, if not the most impactful map in the series. It completely changed the direction of gameplay (though elements were in Mob of the Dead) and the story. In the eyes of many it "redeemed" Black Ops II Zombies for some of its missteps. It's crazy to think it's been 5 years since I was up at 3 in the morning waiting in a party with my friend to download the map on my Xbox. I remember thinking making the staves was too complicated and the Panzers too hard! But I got better over time.
