CoDz Wiki: Open to the Public

For a long time now, a call for a new Zombies wiki has been demanding and desired. The current ones available on the Internet are not exactly trustworthy, albeit containing massive amounts of information.

But now, CoDz has their own Wiki system being opened up to the entire Community and a fresh start.

The wiki runs off an age-old system found on sites like Wikipedia. Since this system is new to our community, that means many, many, many pages have not been created, just waiting to be explored by you - the creator!

Because this is a fresh wiki for us, there are some limitations that we are constantly going to oversee through the course of this amazing WIP project:

Quote
  • Refrain from copying/pasting information from existing wiki sites or sources. Plagiarism is not allowed and may result in deletion of content and possible consequence if from a forum member.
  • Controversial topics (I.E. info that is still in debate due to ongoing story content from DLCs) should be tagged as a disclaimer.
  • If elements of content are taken from third-party context, please cite your sources.
  • Shameless plugins/advertising for YouTube channels and other personal media channels is prohibited.

Down below are some helpful links to get you started on becoming a true Zombies librarian:

Like Dempsey says in Kino: "AWESOME!". I would like it to help whenever it is needed. Looks epic.

Do I need to create a new account for that wiki? And on the wiki there's a link for the storybook. I assume that is the project made by @RadZakpak. Its literally fantastic. Once again CoDZ made a Great Leap Forward. Forgive me if that joke isn't funny

This looks cool. I think it would be a good idea to include popular theories in the articles (with the disclaimer), but to include multiple ones, not picking favorites.

Also, do alternate versions of characters get alternate articles? Or do they share? All Richtofens on one page?

Also, I clicked the link and the site seemed broken for me. Just text on a white page. EDIT: Never mind, it is working now. EDIT: Never mind, it stopped working again.

On what device are you

I'm seeing the same issues I believe. The load.php seems to be spitting out garbage data so the css and the script from that isn't working.

Would it be possible to get a dump/backup of the wiki for download? Not now, but I've been looking for an easy way to get Zombies related text for use in programming/solving ciphers and a dump that could be parsed through might work out well.

@MysteryMachineX The wiki is very old and has problems calling the CSS file for displaying the style correctly. I've been working at it to find the source of the problem.

Also, theories are welcomed! Just would like to have a disclaimer if they are theories.

As for alternate versions of characters/maps, it's just one page. If you look up Peter on the wiki for example, you'll see how it was done. :)

@oxin8 Yes, I can make regular dumps on a monthly basis!

Could you add an enemy group (or is that part of characters?) and a device group (Grill, buildable, traps). I won't start making the page of something important as e.g. Dr. Maxis, but I prefer to start making pages about lesser important things as the Spacemonkeys, or the Flogger in SNN

Ok :) Once we start filling it out a bit (and that nasty css bug is solved), I'd like to see one to figure out how difficult it'll be to import into my stuff. I feel like I've looked at a wiki dump before and it didn't look fun but we'll see.

@Tac, any interest in filling out the wiki with the Transcripts of EVERYTHING post? For awhile now, I've been wishing I could just pull data(the aforementioned dump) and create wordlists based on criteria like:

  • All BO3 data
  • All radios post-WAW
  • All ciphers
    • or just the original text
    • or just the cipher text
    • or a list of all cipher methods
  • All Dempsey quotes
  • etc

I'd really like to see more cipher information documented. Give each cipher it's own page and detail either how it's been solved or what may help solve it. I'm planning on helping but I'm caught up in some book-based wordlist building lately.

Awesome job on the site! I will add to articles where I can.

Also wondering if there is supposed to be a link to the wiki from the main page of CoDz, or if it will be added later. More visibility would greatly improve the likelihood of people helping out with it.

If anyone would like to create a page, you can do so even without a category! Our Librarians (group for moderating the Wiki) will put them in designated categories, so feel free to make standalone pages per object in Zombies. ?

And yes, a link will be made available on the forum to the Wiki once I get on a compooter.

Thank you Infest. If this were a few years back, I'd be all over this. Unfortunately I only have so much time these days, so I'll see if I get motivated enough to devote contributions.

However, if anyone wants to use any of the logos I've gathered and create pages for factions in zombies, feel free!

Wunderbar! Das ist gut! We are in need of a new one. And as for including several different theories, I entirely agree. I think that the main page for the topic should have information on the primary theories, and have links to more theories for if they want more. Perhaps we could use a different text color for the theory-based information to make it simple. We could have a disclaimer at the top of the page such as "Disclaimer: Text in red is theory-based and not confirmed to be canonical".

Anyway, just do what you usually do, and I'll help wherever I can!

My gut reaction on the text color was "GREAT IDEA!" but then I remembered my personal wish to programmatically import the data for use and using color instead of a standardized Theory section or something could add to difficulty. It also seems really easy for someone to want to 'fix' the colors and destroy the wall between fact and fiction.... I think a dedicated seperation for popular theories would be best. Since every page has it's own Discussion/Talk page, less popular/supported theories could exist there. Just my 2 cents. I'm just happy we have a wiki.

Good point. I suppose a designated theory section would be best then.

I think there could be a theory section on every page for specific things but larger theories could have their own pages. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

This is a call for your duty: Call of Duty Zombies Wiki is in need of help. A wiki made for CoDZ'ers by CoDZ'ers. @RadZakpak, @MysteryMachineX, @GarlandDevanny4 and @RequixEclipse already made an account and some of them created pages. So take your part and help it with the information you know. Not only the facts, but every page will also get a "theory part". Take a look if you feel like to help!

We're going to need all the help we can get. Every little bit counts ☺️

The last night CODZ wiki has been spammed by lots of new members, who all created their account yesterday. You should take a look at it, they made posts like "How green is your software" and "don't just sit there". I am asking, if that's possible to make, to make the wiki only editable by people from this site who asked if they are allowed to edit. Only members with more then 10 posts here should be allowed to edit, so you are sure you can trust them. That way we can prevent spam.

Agreed. Or signing up should have some more measures to prevent the bots. If you check the wiki now it's gotten out of hand, and I'm pretty sure there's more bot accounts than real ones now.

@Mods, just take a look at this http://www.callofdutyzombies.com/wiki/index.php?title=Special:RecentChanges

You see the recent wiki changes: RadZakpak creates a page, and immediately after that, the wiki is spammed full again by these bots. This happens all the time. I don't know how they got on this site, but there is a way to prevent this. I hope it is possible to create the idea Rad and I suggested.
