I'm guessing the DG2 fires like the Tempest from the Prophet specialist in mp (or vice versa as the DG2 did come first) with it hitting a single point of impact and arcing out from there. I can't imagine having two almost identical guns without having the same effects on both.

Plus the clock stops right as the teleporter is activated and the NO4 arrive, so maybe it signifies time travel or supernatural meddling from those in the Aether or Agarta as it's also when the zombies come too.
