There is a huge difference between an adult jokes and adult topics/conversations.

I've come to the realisation that if people do not understand what Samara is asking for, then ultimately it probably isn't going to be for you.

We could have an unregulated area for all those adult jokes etc, but that wouldn't be the same as an area for more mature discussions.  If we look at the thread that caused this particular request/incident, it's apparent that the only people who had a problem with it were the younger ones, or dare I say it, less mature.

Every adult who posted in that conversation were pretty much on the same page, all with a very similar personal opinion.

I'm sorry to have to point it out again but EJs and MMXs reactions to the picture highlight exactly what we want to solve.

EJ wasn't able to type after it, and MMX pretty much left the site over it, along with Samaras response.

Now I was 100% behind Samara on that issue, as are pretty much all the more mature adults.  We need a section where people will not be offended by pictures like that, especially when it is in context to the issue.

I love the idea of CODZ having a wide range of ages and diverse groups, but issues like this clearly show some of the differences that we have.

I'd say we have a section created where you have to be over 18 or 21, with maybe even credit card proof required to access.

Longer standing younger users could be added as exceptions, and then monitored.

If that isn't elitism I don't know what is.

"If you don't know what she meant, then it isn't for you."

Come on now. Don't be so lazy and restrictive. If you want to further narrow down the community, go somewhere else please. I decided to stay out of that thread entirely. After it was created I just knew if I got involved I'd end up with some stern messages from someone and I decided to spare us all that problem. You and the other four to six members (rough guess, probably accurate) who you deem as 'mature' do NOT deserve an entire forum section just for yourself.

So although I might not know what exactly transpired within that thread, I don't think it's very 'mature' to be pointing at other members and saying that they are less mature.

Maturity is like humility, those who think they have it, don't.

She wants to be able to discuss mature subjects, without having to deal with kids overreacting, making jokes and basically derailing the thread once someone posts an nsfw photo with context.

He wants a place where he can post "adult" jokes, curse and quote the N-word.

Don't even tell me he's "trying to figure out what she means"

Lazy and restrictive? Coming from someone who stayed out of the thread and now acts like he knows exactly what's going on?

Nice try.

For real though, we should have another group like "infamous" which is awarded to posters with constant outstanding posts. It should also be black and white striped! (Or maybe a greenish blue if it has to be solid.)

We do, it's called "Hall of Fame" :P

Also, the idea about this whole "adult section" already sounds like it's just a forum waiting for trouble. Unless you're basically willing to lift some rules and put an age restriction on it, then I don't see the point in it either.

Give some extra rewards for becoming UOTM.

For example.
+Access to certain areas of the forum like Grave yard/Mod lounge.
+Ability to Sticky thread (Questionable)
+Ability to Moderate perhaps.
+Attend Staff meetings for that month
and so on...

Just my 2 cents. I know most of these are questionable, but gives our members something to work on other than wearing Brent's stinky robes.

"lazy and restrictive" was referring to the lack of attempts at communicating what an 'adult section' would be composed of.

Whether or not I participated in the thread mentioned has no bearing on the fact that your comment right there was the first time any examples were given.

I'm pretty sure as staff you're supposed to be a lot more polite in dealing with members Slade. If you cannot handle the task, please inform someone. Lead by example, rather than sniping at anyone who doesn't quite know what you're getting at.

When I was UOTM manager, I had always wanted to include features like these. There just was a lot of turbulence within the staff chat at the time so I never got to get it further than the drawing board.

Interesting idea Way. I'm not sure about the whole "let's give them a free month mod trial" necessarily but, more of a VIP pass perhaps?

So for example UOTM earns:

+Included in upcoming Staff meetings

+Able to view the graveyard forum

+Stick their OWN posts

etc.

Edit:

Could even go as far as giving members who have become UOTM some "perma perks" if you will, such as:

+Increased PM space

+New/personalized CoDz themes/backgrounds

Or something of the like.

Lets call it at as it is and this isn't the topic doing be doing so but it's going to get discussed by the team anyway so here goes.

Call of Duty is a game that comes with age restriction, in the UK that age restriction is 18, in the UK it generally falls under the PEGI rating system which is actually a voluntary code and not law. Whilst some games will fall under the same category as movies BBFC (British Board of Film Classification). Essentially it is against the law to sell a game to anyone under the age limit and "technically" it's against the law (as I understand it) to actually watch/play the age restricted content.

This forum is dedicated to a game mode that is both age restricted in the UK and age restricted in the US as 18+. Fact is we have kids galore on this forum, I've nothing against this and welcome them with open arms. However, in my view, it also deters the more "mature" person from joining the site and contributing because of that fact. The topic in question just highlights the maturity differences between certain age groups. That's not a bad thing and it's not about having a go at them, as lets face we had a lot of "growing" up to do at that age as well, I certainly still have a lot of growing up to do and I'm 37.

I don't think we need to create any specific sections for the more "mature" amongst us, I just think some may need to (as I say to my 10 year old boy when someone shouting at him on live and he gets upset).

I think I'd like to read this topic. If it's going to be used as reasons why a portion of a site is mature, and another portion is not, then I think it is unfair to myself, and anyone else who hasn't read it to be unable to make any statements on said thread.

I have no idea what transpired. None at all. Who knows, maybe I'd agree with you all. But I cannot know without seeing it, and since it has so much staff support on being a good example of what shouldn't happen, why isn't it just locked and left as an example?

I'm pretty sure the purpose of the locked function is for threads that get out of hand, but still have some importance.

Also, HellsWarrior, it's 17+ in the US. Minor things, but still true.

Excuse me Chopper, but when that thread inspires a decision that changes some facet of the site as a whole, then I DO deserve to get involved and get my opinion out there.

You're rather predictable you know. Everytime, EVERY single time, I comment with my opinion anywhere that it may even slightly disagree with a staff members, you show up and tell me that I need to shut up. Quite frankly it's oppressive, and exhausting and I wish you'd just leave me alone. I've practically existed in a self-imposed exile to a few select threads because of you. No longer. Do with that what you will.

You know I can say something equally as useless as what you said, watch:

If you cannot define what an adult section would contain, then I'm afraid it's not for you.

EDIT: Furthermore, if all the discussions were so 'polite' and you are so certain that the majority was in 'the right', then why is the thread gone exactly? If there are just a handful of disagreers what constituted the removal?

I know naitrax brought up the point about people making short posts and other that post 3 seperate parts for something that could be made into one post. Perhaps a time limit between posts? Like every 24 hours you can make a new post. However you can comment as much as you like.

I think this would encourage members to make the full post because they would have to considerr wait 3 days to complete your post or have the complete post up and running immediately.

Please no. I, and many others, have a very limited time period they can be on CoDz, and I want to post multiple threads, I need to be able to. To reduce spam, you should employ this, but only on the "new member" user group. That way, we can deal with spambots before they even make a second thread.

But please, don't punish the people who stay.

I am against any sort of limitations on posting.  Any spam can be reported to mods through the appropriate channels.  Ever since "**** please report this topic, post ****-gate" was handled, i haven't seen any spam at all.  I fear too many restrictions, especially on the "new user" group may be counter-productive.  I know if when I had joined 3+ years ago I could only post once per day, I would have left and never came back.  During the off-season I know it can get a little slow, and as they say "Idle hands are the devils play things"  I just don't want us to start making rules and restricting things just because we don't have much else on our plates at the moment

See… Hall of Fame has 6 people for a reason, it's SUPER difficult, beyond anything most of us will get to. There should be some sort of reward to people like myself, Speedo, and many others. It's a bit degrading after posting so much and putting in so much effort to constantly be placed with the same as a person with 14 posts about how tranzit sucks….. We can't all be admins, veterans, or UOTM…

Re: mature section

I'm with Hells Warrrior on this one.  The nature of the game is very mature, and the fact that while playing the game you will hear multiple F-words from the likes of Dempsey and Nikolai, yet if I use profanity in the forum, there's a good chance i'll be reported, doesn't make a whole lot of sense.  I'm not saying that the place should be filled with obscenities, but if one is desired to emphasize a point or make a joke, it shouldnt be restricted because the children might hear.  These things have a way of working themselves out, as it did with the rape culture thread and MMX leaving.  Its a shame that he left, but he obviously decided that he wasn't mature enough to handle the forum any more, and perhaps once he has a chance to work through that and decide he has matured to the point of being able to have an adult conversation about things I hope he comes back.  Theres nothing wrong with being too young or immature, and coming to the realization yourself is a great first step to growing up

Are you really posting here for the sole purpose of getting recognition for how good a poster you are?  If you really are a great poster, your posts themselves should be all the recognition you need.  This site isnt a contest to get the most medals or become some sort of all-star.

ENOUGH.

enough.enough.enough.

I think it is a good idea for the thread to be public.  It serves as an example, and it's important for our members to be able to see what we are talking about.  I've un-graveyarded it (after telling the staff I was going to do so).

EJ's rape culture thread IS locked, but it can be found in Deep Thought - and right here.

On a similar but separate note - how about instead of "NSFW" we use a tag called "MATURE CONTENT".  To me, NSFW often entails pornography, violence, basically anything you'd be FIRED for having it seen on your work computer.  Many of our users are in school still, and don't work.  This "NSFW" applies to only a select few of us, while "MATURE CONTENT" would apply to all of us.

If you see the "MATURE CONTENT" tag, and you are a person of strict values - you might want to consider NOT clicking on that thread.  This is not to dissuade anyone from participating, but more so: let the adults talk, we know it's a controversial subject - don't harass us simply for wanting to talk about something.

In the meantime, please please just stop this flame war.  I know that some of you have differences but this isn't the place to discuss it, take it to a PM.

@MegaAfroMan I'm asking you to be the bigger man and remove the screenshot of @ 's post.  We have ALL made heated posts, and then come back to edit it later - or even delete them.  I'm asking you to take the higher route, rather then "shaming" someone for being human.  I won't remove it from your post, I'll leave that up to you.

Fine, do nothing then, not going to act like I don't care but its not like there's anything I can do about it.

I do not appreciate you pointing this at me making me look selfish however. Simply because I want everyone whom deserves it to feel like they've earned something through their posts.

If I wanted to gloat about my own posting I would have done it to a group who ISN'T composed of MAM, Chopper, pretty sure Pinnaz has been here, Slade, and other posters whom have been known for better post then I.

Also, 10 points to Grill

@Stop mocking me0: No one called you "selfish" but you specifically mentioned being rewarded along with others for being a good contributor in an alternative way in which we already have several ways of awarding said type of members already. UOTM is intended to give recognition to members who've made great posts and an impression on the community in the past month, and HoF is for those who've done that an beyond constantly, as you've stated. If we created another similar group, it would make the other two seem obsolete.

@Black Hand Smith: That's been mentioned before and that will just do more harm than good. If you dislike a post at all, I personally would like to know why and talk about it, have a discussion. Otherwise it ends up like Facebook with a bunch of liked/disliked thread with no posts.

Link to comment

Usergroups are there to clearly define a person or group of peoples role within the community. If we keep adding more usergroups for everything, the purpose of usergroups become obsolete. For example, if a newer member were to come to the forum, they could identify a staff member by the green or the red name. Similarly, they could see the purple donned by Veteran's to know that they are ex-staff and can likely be approached as one with perhaps a higher knowledge of the forum rules. When they see the yellow name, they know they are seeing a post from one of the best; somebody that has become legendary within the walls of CoDz.

If we gave a usergroup just for somebody posting a lot or being active, or for people that occasionally make good posts, then not only would it make a large portion of the medals system useless as well as the userbars, but it would also add more to what, in my opinion, is already too many colours on the forum. I was around in the days where we had usergroups for everything and colours everywhere. Believe me, it's not something you want to be bringing back.

You say you want everyone to feel like they've earned something? This is EXACTLY what the medals are for.
