The Armory: Extinction Teeth Upgrade Master List

GRILL

Recommended Posts

In Extinction mode, there is a "currency" called Teeth.  You can earn teeth through various tasks: completing Extinction missions, using relics, playing in hardcore mode, helping other players complete a mission for the first time, and every 300 cryptid kills (also there is a "bonus pool" that refills every 24 hours giving you 1"freebie" teeth for simply progressing past the first area of hives on any map).

EDIT - New Ways to Earn Teeth:

+ 4 teeth per game for completionist

+ 2 teeth per game for completing 10 challenges (i.e. not failing more than 2 challenges)

+ unconfirmed: platinum, no downs, no drill repairs, ...

In your loadout in Extinction mode, there is a section at the top that says "Armory: Get Upgrades" - this is where you spend your hard earned teeth for class and equipment upgrades.

They implemented the Armory for DLC 2, but have since updated it with DLC 3, and DLC 4.  Here is the master list:

(key: 1/5 = wait until you've got everything that's better, 3/5 = it's useful, 5/5 = it's necessary, and cyan if I haven't tried it & I'm reporting from someone else's experience)

The master list is in the order of the list in game.

Name:  Faster Revive

Cost: 10 teeth

Upgrade: Shortens the time it takes for you to get revived.

GRILL rating: 3/5

Name:  Start with a Locker Key

Cost: 40 teeth

Upgrade: Start with a Locker key on missions with Lockers.

GRILL rating: 5/5

Name:  More Cash

Cost: 20 teeth

Upgrade: Start with an extra $1000

GRILL rating: 1/5

Name: Flaming stowed Riot Shield

Cost: 20 teeth

Upgrade: A stowed Riot Shield will burn enemies while blocking attacks from the rear.

GRILL rating: 5/5

Name: Higher Quality Incendiary Ammo

Cost: 5 teeth

Upgrade: Incendiary Ammo does more total damage.

GRILL rating: 3/5

Name: Electric Knife

Cost: 30 teeth

Upgrade: Electrically charges the knife so that a melee will arc electricity to nearby Cryptids, stunning them.  The Electric Knife has a recharge time of 4 seconds.

GRILL rating: 3/5 (If you have some extra teeth lying around, this is a fun upgrade.  The only down side is regardless of whether you get the electricity or not, you have to wait 4 seconds after every melee.  It also seems to work sporadically in tandem with body armor, i.e. when attacked you emit an electric blast that stuns the aliens.)

Name: Sniper Deadeye

Cost: 40 teeth

Upgrade: Sniper Rifle hits are always critical and kills will earn more cash.

GRILL rating: 5/5 (fantastic, earns more money and cryptids go down super quick)

Name: Seeker Explosion Protection

Cost: 5 teeth

Upgrade: Take less damage from exploding Seekers and Bombers.

GRILL rating: 1/5

Name: Toughness

Cost: 25 teeth

Upgrade: Flinch less when taking damage.

GRILL rating: 5/5 (This upgrade is a real bargain for 25 teeth, and it greatly reduces the flinching when dealing with those pesky pods on Mayday.  It's great for the other maps as well - think about it, what do you spend the most time doing in a game?  Looking down the site.   Get this upgrade. )

Name: Hypno-Knife a Rhino

Cost: 50 teeth

Upgrade: Players who use a hypno-knife on a Rhino can turn him into a valuable ally.

GRILL rating: 3/5

Name: Start with a Skill Point

Cost: 20 teeth

Upgrade: Start each game with an extra Skill Point.

GRILL rating: 5/5

Name: Faster Health Regeneration

Cost: 5 teeth

Upgrade: Regenerate health faster.

GRILL rating: 1/5

Name: High Grade Armor Piercing Ammo

Cost: 5 teeth

Upgrade: Armor piercing ammo will inflict increased damage when impacting a Cryptid's armored head plate.

GRILL rating: 1/5

Name: Damage Upgrade

Cost: 10 teeth

Upgrade: Increases the damage of all attacks by 5%

GRILL rating: 0/5 (don't even bother, not noticeable)

Name: Stun Armor

Cost: 10 teeth

Upgrade: With armor equipped, this will periodically stun attackers.

GRILL rating: 1/5

Name: Sentry Armor

Cost: 5 teeth

Upgrade: Sentry guns you place can sustain more damage.

GRILL rating: 1/5

Name: Medic Upgrade

Cost: 15 teeth

Upgrade: The Medic is surrounded by a therapeutic energy field.  Allies inside the field are healed or revived from last stand.

GRILL rating: 5/5

Name: Engineer Upgrade

Cost: 15 teeth

Upgrade: The Engineer lays down a Stasis Field that both protects from Scorpion and Seeder attacks and creates a safe zone that Cryptids will not enter.

GRILL rating: 3/5

Name: Weapon Specialist Upgrade

Cost: 15 teeth

Upgrade: The Specialist has an adrenaline rush, greatly increasing damage done and keeping his clips completely topped off.  Nearby allies also receive a modest damage boost.

GRILL rating: 5/5

Name: Tank Upgrade

Cost: 15 teeth

Upgrade: All Cryptids begin attacking the Tank, who is now invulnerable and able to stun enemies with melee attacks.

GRILL rating: 3/5

Name: I.M.S. Fast Trigger

Cost: 5 teeth

Upgrade: Shortens the time it takes the I.M.S. to detect nearby enemies.

GRILL rating: 3/5

Name: Keep Valid Attachments

Cost: 10 teeth

Upgrade: Attachments transfer if they are valid for the new weapon.

GRILL rating: 5/5

Name: Magnum ACOG attachment

Cost: 2 teeth

Upgrade: Magnum pistols will have an ACOG equipped.

GRILL rating: 1/5

Name: I.M.S. Flaming Pools

Cost: 10 teeth

Upgrade: When equipped, the I.M.S. explosions will leave lingering fire pools.

GRILL rating: 0/5 (hurts you and your teammates, don't waste your teeth)

Name: No Snare

Cost: 10 teeth

Upgrade: With this upgrade, Hunter and Seeker Cryptids will no longer snare players with their attacks.

GRILL rating: 3/5

Name: Pistol Ark Attachment

Cost: 125 teeth

Upgrade: Replaces the Muzzle Brake on your upgraded pistol with the Ark attachment (basically PaP's it, shoots lasers).

GRILL rating: 5/5 (This is basically like starting out with Mustang & Sally's every zombie match.  The pistol ark's are fantastic, and make the pistols only relic a piece of cake for any map.)

Name: Class Upgrade Frequency Boost

Cost: 200 teeth

Upgrade: Lessens the cooldown time between uses of the Class upgrades.

GRILL rating: 3/5 (Very great if you have some teeth lying around, 200 of them at that.  A bit overpriced if you ask me, but it does it's just damn well.)

Name: Vulture Extended Duration

Cost: 50 teeth

Upgrade: Extends the duration of the Vulture and increases the frequency of the +4 Vulture firing incendiary rockets.

GRILL rating: 3/5 (the vulture is a powerhouse on it's own, naturally making it stronger makes it more badass - but it's not necessary)

Name: Master Scavenger

Cost: 200 teeth

Upgrade: Scavenge unique items such as Extended Mags and the Ark attachment as well as more powerful Hypno Knives and Flares.

GRILL rating: 3/5 (If you have extra teeth then go for it - but there appears to be a very inconsistent nature involved with getting ark.  I'm not going to spend my hard earned teeth just to get ark's sometimes... I want at least one ark every game.)

Name: Cryptid Slayer Ammo

Cost: 500 teeth

Upgrade: This special ammo has the combined firepower of all of the existing ammo types.

GRILL rating: 3/5 (seems pretty cool, but I slay fine as is ;) )

Name: Arcing Stun Ammo

Cost: 50 teeth

Upgrade: Stun ammo will arc electricity from one Cryptid to another in close proximity.

GRILL rating: 1/5 (stun ammo is lame, end of story.  some people swear by it - I don't)

Name: Double Class

Cost: 1000 teeth

Upgrade: Choose any two Classes with this upgrade.  Note: Skill points will be applied to both classes when applied in game.

GRILL rating: 3/5 (the only reason this isn't "5/5" is because of the cost.  No "average" player could attain this upgrade, and it's silly for IW to include such an unrealistic goal.  Only those who have grinded 1000's of escapes will be able to achieve "Double Class", after those thousands of escapes - how much more are you really going to want to play?)

This list is just one of the many examples showing how Extinction has some fantastic replayability.  From rewards for helping newcomers to mowing down the masses, the people who created Extinction put some serious time & care into it.

Many people write off Extinction simply because the first map was pretty bland, and Ghosts in general was a letdown.  I say that Extinction was Ghosts savior, and has provided me with DAYS worth of replayability.  I will return to Ghosts to play Extinction maps far into the future, that's for sure.

I know many of you bought the season pass for Ghosts and felt like you didn't get much out of it - take this master list as a reminder of all the cool stuff you can do in Extinction.  Pop in that Ghosts disc and start getting escapes, Extinction was made with care.

Excellent thread, thank you.

You should change the first post, the teeth pool resets every 24 hours with 1 tooth (as of early August patch).

It still glitches sometimes and shows zero when it resets, but it will award you a tooth if you beat the first barrier hive. I think it glitches when the timer resets; the pool starts at zero unless you leave/come back, but the tooth is there and will be awarded.

Thoughts:

The 5% damage boost made a noticeable difference in solo games. Magnum shot to armor will kill when it wouldn't before. (playing as tank; in solo, only one skill point is required to make it 1 stab kill on scouts).

Sentry armor is amazing. Maybe because i play solo, but 1 scout will kill a sentry quickly. A rhino will kill it real quickly. An armored sentry will kill a rhino that is trying to kill it. That's a huge difference. It lasts 4-5 times as long while being abused for only 5 teeth. How is that not 5/5?

Start with extra 1000: Compare: start with key means 40 points for a 1000 to 3000 point gun. For half the teeth (20), you get a guaranteed 1000 at start. That still isn't amazing, but if you are the scrub who isn't running sentry guns, that 4th guy not racking up the points, this would be a real boon. I'm not hyping it, just saying it isn't so bad.

Edit: (i use pistols only/magnum often, so) fyi, the improved incendiary ammo will kill in about a second or two from a single shot, which is much better than it used to be. However, the upgraded Armor-piercing did not show as great an improvement. (grill had these properly rated, i was just commenting).

The Magnum ACOG attachment should be rated 0/5, as it simply handicaps you if you use it. It really sucks.

Edit: i hate to be that guy, but i am that guy; why have a 3 point system to 5 points? Why not 1/3, 2/3, 3/3, instead of 1/5, 2/5, 3/5 (ignoring the one 0/5 of fecetiousness)?

Also, last time i played (second map) the Vulture was garbage, i have to assume that it has been buffed some (like it was in Safeguard)?

Flaming stowed shield 'farming': if you want to try something silly yet boring, you can 'farm' with the shield (needs flaming stowed upgrade); go to casual, upgrade to at least a 20 point shield (25 pretty much guarantees enough points), find a corner to sit in with your back to the craptids, replace your shield when destroyed. It will earn back the 700 that you pay for it each time. A good spot is the hummer (vehicle) on it's side to the left of the first poc hive, by the guardrail. After 300 boring scout suicides, you get a tooth. Edit: a better spot was standing on the railing by the turret by the lone hive of the right side of the road in the motel area; this is so easy that i did other stuff and just had to flip up a new shield when she started taking damage when her shield ran out. Otherwise, i wad barely paying attention. So after a bit of set up, it barely needs to be interacted with.

Other farm: (you'll get more for playing/winning on regular, but sometimes you just need a tooth or 2); go casual so any scout dies in 1 stab. Get sentry at least 2 points, up to maxed out, but never place 2 as they will waste points. But maxing it out stops it from overheating often. What i usually do: get 2-4 points in sg, put 2 in magnum for 9 shots/faster move. Set the sentry at poc start, on the road way back by the white barrel. Then stand on the first hive, kill most yourself, your sentry gun will do little work, last quite a while and protect you. The scouts will rarely try to get the sentry gun. Easy farming.

The '2 hive' solution: this needs only 2 hives beat for a faster farm; put 4 skill points in portable turret, go up to the lone hive on the right side of the road, go up the steps to the mounted turret. Set up in the back corner, facing the entrance and bore yourself some teeth. For a slightly more fun version; put a fifth tooth (if you have 'start with a skill point') in ims (you'll survive without ims if you don't have it), set up in the farthest back corner of start (by the guardrail). Drop ims, set up portable turret and play shooting gallery. You should aquire enough points to keep buying the turret and placing occasional ims'.

Well, Dino is right. You now earn Teeth at an incredibly increased rate. You can earn around 12-15 Teeth per escape if you are running a relic and get a Gold or higher escape time. The Double Class upgrade is now much more achievable.

The Upgraded Ability durations have been shortened, while the cooldown has been lengthened. I assume that this is to make that faster cooldown seem more enticing.

So yeah. Now these high requirements seem obtainable.

Testing solo: 300 kills per tooth + extra. 6 teeth for a solo escape from poc with 1 relic (8 when i farmed for 2 teeth in the way).

You get +2 for completing any 10 challenges that game, plus another 4 for getting completionist, plus 2 more for getting Platinum escape time. Just in case you wanted to know other ways :]

Thanks. Also i think you get 2 for prestiging. Edit: wrong, just 1 for prestige.

Local is still at the basic level. Teeth every 600, et cetera. I figured i would work in that in case xbl is down, but it was too crappy. The additional teeth really breathed life into this mode for me.

I keep killing my stats: once per day i fight the tentacle in mayday, get my tooth and leave. Never look at my extinction stats, unless you consider the 4 platinum solo escapes...and i did a platinum with my 'bad at video games' friend split screen poc (2 player). The 4 solo games gave me 6,7,8,9 teeth. One more crappy (cheap) upgrade then I'm working on pistol ark attachment since i love rocking the magnum.

Vulture +1 or +2 lasts 35 seconds/50 seconds with the 50 teeth upgrade. A 42.6% increase.

Vulture +3 or +4 lasts 45 seconds/75 seconds with the 50 teeth upgrade. A 66.7ish% increase.

It definitely becomes a viable option with the teeth upgrade.

Toughness is great man, those plants on Mayday/Gargoyles on Awakening.Exodus making you flinch like crazy is annoying. I really hated the way they made you do that, but I flinch way less now and I'm glad for this upgrade lol.

I would probably switch Frequency Booster's rating for Master Scavengers. Have both and although Master Scavenger is great (really only love it because of the upgrade Flares, they really do help a lot) finding Arks is really luck based. Some games you'll find 6, others none. You find more ammo packs now and SOFLAMS. Frequency Booster is really helpful making the cooldown time half of what it was before. Really does help a lot in my opinion.

A little trick for testing them; get a bunch of teeth, split screen with a friend, signed in as guest, he'll be your clone with all of your teeth.

Play as the guest and spend the teeth, see if you like the upgrades before you spend your actual gt's teeth.

Sign out, sign back in and try something else.

The toughness is good. I couldn't even see results from hive 1 stun knife, pointless.

I'm saving for pistol ark, but i feel i should go for the frequency boost. But then again, i rarely need the special ability.

I guess I'll test the pistol ark, then decide.

Decisions decisions...

I bought the pistol ark. Worth it just for the fact that it turns them into electric Kool-Aid. Now i can finally justify using armor-piercing bullets on my pistol.

Alright!  This thread has gotten some serious views, in just a month we've racked up 14,000 views and counting.  Feel free to post any questions here about specific upgrades and whatnot.  I'm just going to update with the new methods of earning teeth.  If anyone can confirm certain methods that would be awesome!

@thedinobot Just got Toughness, and love it.  Re-rating some of my newly acquired purchases, and yes I 100% agree about Frequency boost vs. Master Scavenger, changing those ratings as well.

Upgrade thoughts; i know many of you want as much info as possible before you buy, so I'm going to weigh in and discuss some of these upgrades. I usually play solo or 2 player, so that's where my experience is stated from. Mostly i agree with Grill and his excellent thread here, any discrepancies will be seen below.

Thanks for your input @83457 ! I'm glad you mostly agree with me  B)  we still have yet to play extinction my man.  After next tuesday I'll be playing Destiny for an undetermined amount of time, but if you see me on before then hit me up.

Not sure about Platinum yet, but drill repairs and downs don't count towards teeth.

I keep getting platinum solo escapes from poc and it doesn't give me teeth as I'm flying off, so i guess not.

Guess: every so many barrier hives maybe? I keep getting them as a barrier hive is destroyed. Not every b hive of course, but definitely seems to trigger them. Maybe no downs before the hive or something?

Using what people describe here isn't matching the higher number of teeth that I'm getting. I keep failing completionist, but almost always get the 2-for-10.

872 teeth to go for double class.

Have: faster revive, more cash, flaming stowed riot shield, hq incendiary, seeker explosion protection, start with sp, faster health regen, hg ap ammo, damage upgrade, sentry armor, all 4 class upgrades, ims fast trigger, keep valid attachments, the 11th relic (magnum acog), ims flaming pools, no snare, pistol ark attachment.

Working on double class, then upgrade frequency boost...and I'll see where it leads from there.

you get always get two teeth as long as you complete any 10 challenges, doesn't matter which 10 as long as it's 10. Completionisnt just adds to that.

Another thing that might be easier for you to get teeth is Nightfall. In the final area with hives (the one with the traps on the catwalk thing) you get a whole bunch of kills there. A solo game can get you 800 - 900 kills giving you 3 more teeth on top of what you're already getting.

@thedinobot, Thanks for the info. i keep getting my butt beat in that area of mayday solo. I'll get it one of these days.

I keep grinding teeth on poc solo because it's a guaranteed win for me.

@GRILL, I'd love to play, but I'm very introverted so it's hard to send invites. Don't worry, I'm only a little crazy. If i could join your game i would, but it's always full or solo...(no option to join).

(post rewritten due to insanity of original post).

Okay, i did a solo game with no downs, no drill repairs, platinum escape.

12 teeth, i did not prestige nor did I get a bonus pool tooth.

2 nonsuspicious teeth that were from kills. 601 total kills means that i got 2 from kills during that game.

2 for 10 challenges complete.

4 for completionist (12 challenges complete).

1 for relic

1 for escape

That leaves 2: platinum? No downs? No drill repair?

Sorry for my first post. This post didn't really get us anywhere and i would not have written it except that i had to replace my original insane post.

So, in game, i saw 2 teeth show up from kills. 2 from the 10 challenge. The other 8 were awarded after the game (i checked my teeth count after hive 14 at which point I had earned 4 teeth). So, it seems that completionist only counts if you actually win, since it isn't awarded until after the game is over.

Double Exp for Extinction. I think it only doubles the teeth you get for escaping.

Odd. Not happening here as of 13:00 est 9.6.2014.

Same 12 teeth no prestige/no pool tooth.

I had 4 at the end of hive 14, awarded 8 after the game, just like usual if i get completionist.

Also, i had a drill repair this time which didn't effect the teeth amount.

I'm guessing it's 2 teeth for a platinum poc escape.

Not sure if it works in custom games, it might have to be a public match. I just ran PoC and got like 13-15 teeth with no relics. Should work on solo.
