Unpopular Opinions Thread

Everyone has em. Whether you hate a game someone else likes, or believe in a certain ideal, this is the place to put it. Try to avoid some of the more controversial ones, we don't want too many big ones that could cause a huge argument.

So here are some of mine:

1) I find The Last of Us, any Valve game (particularly Half Life), Ocarina of Time (every other 3D Zelda after it is better in every single way), and Final Fantasy VII to be ridiculously overrated. Most of them are just nostalgic, nothing more.

2) Breaking bad is not the best show on the planet. It's just okay.

3) Getting to high rounds in zombies is boring as watching paint dry. I don't care what anyone says, any kind of training is boring. At that point it's no longer survival, it's just a chore.

I'll post more later, but how about you guys? I figure this could be a fun thing for a bit in the off time. Feel free to discuss other people's opinions as well.

Life doesn't need purpose.

People hate hearing that, but I firmly believe it's silly of us to think that.

Life doesn't need shit.

We're nothing. Just some Carbon in complex formation with other molecules, doing what molecules do best after time is applied: bunching together and becoming more complex.

Ergo life, and the universe by extension, does not need to satisfy our desire to feel important.

You should NEVER hold an opinion you CANNOT defend, and you should NEVER EVER EVER state an opinion you WILL NOT defend.

People have this prevailing mindset it seems that opinions are sacred, and everyone has a right to their own opinions, and because of that right, everyone else must respect the final opinion that person comes up with.

That is utter bullshit. I understand most people don't always want to defend their ideas, but if you aren't willing to explain your thoughts, and to consider faults in your reasoning, you really don't deserve to be heard. So if you don't want to defend something. Keep it to yourself.

Likewise, I just think it is poor taste to hold an opinion based on nothing concrete. Something you cannot defend at all, shouldn't be held as an opinion in any shape or form. It is okay to not have an opinion on something. Nothing wrong with that.

It is not okay to have an opinion based on nothing.

Evolution is the way things work. The Cosmos evolves, and Technology is just an extension of human biological evolution. Things naturally trend towards becoming more complex. A sort of counter balance enthropy, to entropy or so. I know in America numbers are on the rise towards people thinking evolution is a lie. That honestly scares the shit out of me.

Fascism works. In fact I'd argue it has the potential to be the best form of government. Freedom is dangerous. It has its value, but it must be weighed with the costs.

Republic is probably the next best thing.

A direct Democracy is never going to work out well. Not with conventional humans.

Economy? Socialism. Get over it, boo hoo, you have to help pay for your sick neighbors hospital bills. It works pretty darn well in a great many places. Medical Insurance is a dark business, trying to run for profit, and also with the best interests of their customers at the same time is purely impossible. Guess which one is usually chosen. They could stand to make less, and so could the wealthiest of our populace.

Taxes post WWII were in the 90% range on the wealthiest.

They still found a pretty darn effective way to become even more wealthy.

The human brain is really just a machine. You are just a machine. You think you're free, but you really aren't. You're just doing what you're programmed to by society, and built to do by genetics. You self correct and adapt, and in that you're very plastic and organic, but you're still not free.

However I have determined that you are not pre-destined. Take a coin-flip. If you fully commit to either result, there is no way you could have influenced or known the result before hand. You've created a fork in possible eventualities.

People always throw Quantum Mechanics out there as a reason why we're free.

First, Quantum Mechanics doesn't work that way.

Even if it did, it would only introduce randomness into our brains, not free will.

Being bound by coin flips is no more free, than being bound by chemical and electric processes.

I think that's it.

Oh.

These are all somewhat offensive.

I'll back up and discuss any of them, but I don't think this thread is the place.

Either PM me, or start a discussion topic somewhere if you want to go a few rounds.

I like testing my opinions. Helps me improve as an educated person.

FFVIII overrated? I felt like it was the least liked game out of the PS trilogy. Now FFVII I do like, but it's so overrated to the point where I automatically start to dislike Cloud and Sephiroth in anything unfortunately.

I am a fan of the FFXIII series and I like Lightning as a character.

From what I've seen of Game of Thrones, I just didn't enjoy it. The killing and violence seems way to high, made me cringe. Not a fan of gore and all that. But my mum loves it. And we promised her we'd watch the first season. I feel like I'm just not going to like it.

I like the N4, BO2 maps and BO2 in general. And I find Der Riese overrated.

I feel there's more but I can't think of any more right now.

Dislike Der Riese, am in love with Shangri-la and would play it over nearly anything.

Love the Origins egg, even if it is just terrible story wise, I love the gameplay aspect. It gives me a real purpose once all the Staves are upgraded.

Think Xbone is better than PS4 (don't even try to sway me, I've played enough of both to have an informed decision)

Never watched Breaking Bad, and have no intention to.

Same with Game of Thrones.

I think AC1 wasn't boring.

I prefer the PS3 controller over the Xbox 360 controller.

I think Nuketown is one of the easiest maps on BO2.

I don't like grief.

I like EJ. (Heyooooo)

Will edit this as soon as I can think of more.

Ahhh, ZOTD me and you have the same opinions!

@Naitrax Agreed that I'm not watching Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, Walking Dead or any other overrated as f*ck show.

That said, my opinions:

- Weed isn't good.

- Mac OS X is much better than Windows

- Linux flat out sucks

- Zombies is boring when you're at a high level.

- Windows 8 is an OK OS.

- I love the tank on GTA V

- I think GTA V had the most boring story out of every GTA.

- Minecraft is overrated.

- Internet memes get boring and annoying real f*cking quick.

- I hate most big YouTubers. Most of them are just obnoxious, misleading titles, assholes, etc.

There's loads more I have, but I only just got up.

Oh sorry, I meant VII. Roman numerals, ya know?

I must admit, that most of my opinions on overrated things are completely biased. Most of them I've never played/watched. It's just obvious they won't live up to the hype, especially based on what I personally like. Only one's in my own list I have a real say on, Ocarina of Time and Breaking Bad. Both just aren't that great. Better shows, and Zeldas out there. I have played a few valve games, and the only ones I've played worth a lot of praise are the Portal games, but even those are way overrated.

@Naitrax, agreed with Der Riese, just not that fun. Same with it's clones (kino, ascension). Game of Thrones does actually look interesting to me personally, though. I might look into it eventually.

@Nathan, wow, we really do have alot of similar opinions. Most of the stuff on your list I agree with completely

@Mega, How did I know you were going to post the most controversial stuff?

The Walking Dead is an overrated show. (Games aren't that bad.)

Breaking Bad wasn't the best show. Good, but not the best.

Final Fantasy 13 and it's sequels are boring and unplayable.

Final Fantasy 12 was the best.

Der Riese is a boring map. You will not catch me playing this unless I want to PaP WaW weapons.

The Last of Us was a 8/10 game at most. Definitely not deserving of a next gen remake.

Valve is about half and half. Half-Life, 2, and it's episodes do not hold up my attention, and look like pure nostalgia trips. (I know it set up the physics we see a lot today.)

Portal was pretty good.

Team Fortress 2 is still fun if you ignore the hat economy.

CoD 2: Big Red One and 3 were the best CoDs campaign-wise.

Finest Hour had the best characters.

Global warming is the fictional warping of data for political purposes.

Richard Nixon may not have been the best president, but he was far from the worst.

Wii U is the best (if not equal to) "next-gen" console.

I've got a big one. PC is not that great of a gaming platform. Say what you will, PC gamers, you will spend way more on a PC than you will for a singular console, because they require so much updating after a couple of years. Even if you make a very high end PC, chances are the cost will be higher than next gen consoles. You also need to know wtf you are doing if you build one, and most of us do not. Also, mods are unneeded to make the game experience fun. Steam is terrible. The only good part of it are the sales, but even then you can get way more games than you can play.

I only like PC gaming for MMOs and Strategy games, otherwise PC tends to not work so well for me.

On other notes, The Dark Knight is a very overrated movie. It's only great because of Heath Ledger, otherwise it's the slowest of the trilogy.

I agree with MMX, Wii U is actually a good console. Wouldn't say the best, but it can be great. It just needs more games.

The Wire is the best show ever and the most over rated is The Sopranos.

I never enjoyed a Final Fantasy game.

Jean-Luk Picard is the superior captain.

Being someone who has played a lot of sports in my life, including High School level Football, Wrestling and Adult League Hockey, Tennis is surprisingly one of the most physical demanding sports I've played. Great sport to play and stay in shape.

Buddy Revell is the toughest High School student ever and Mike Dexter is an A$$hole.

I love Les Miserables. The play, 10th Ann special, and even the new movie. There. I said it.

Some more from me:

- Mob of the Dead had a better storyline in it's map than any other.

- Anyone who uses the world "selfie" in a natural context is an absolute idiot and I hate that person a bit more.

- iOS is better than Android

- People should treat bus drivers with respect. (Seems normal but the amount of hate and abuse I've seen them get....)

- "Respect your elders" <- No. Respect is to be earned.

- I have no sympathy towards people who are massively obese. Unless it's caused by a illness.

- Half-Life 3 jokes are unoriginal, unfunny and old. Get something new FFS.

- People who try and belittle people for not having a job are absolute scum.

- Bully Scholarship Edition is one of the best games ever made. (Not rated bad or anything, just massively unplayed)

Ascension is the most boring map ever.

lol mega, that escalated quickly.

*ahem* let's begin:

  • TV shows in general, suck unless it's cartoons (preferably 90's or classic Pixar/Disney) or the History channel.
  • Mac > Windows
  • Verruckt is the best zombies map, ever.
  • Everything after Moon, sucks. (Story should have ended with Samantha)
  • Story-wise, Extinction > Zombies *awaits hate mail*
  • I hate reading (ironically, unless it's a comic book or graphic novel of interest)
  • "Metalcore" is NOT metal, it's punk with terribly low-strung instruments and shoving mics down your throat where the more tattoos you have, the more "metal" you are.
  • 90's music is best in general
  • Gameboy Advance > All other handheld systems

Just cause someone is popular, it doesn't mean they're a douche and won't hang out with you. It also doesn't mean they're rich or not lonely.

Hitler was equally talented as he was evil.

Both political parties suck.

Pop music is sometimes ok (if it's original and not promoting bad choices).

Juice is much, much better than soda or energy drinks.

The government gets by from the people, it's not for the people.

I don't like recreational sports other than soccer.

Hmm, interesting topic.

- There's no legitimate basis for anyone disliking same-sex marriage

- Weed should be legalized

- Rich people aren't all that stuck up

- 100% with Nathan about respect, it's earned, you don't get it because you're older than me

- Gender wage gap exists, but not as much as everyone thinks

- It's possible to have a wrong opinion

- I have no sympathy for people who say they can't do something

- If someone says they can't do well at school, they're lying

All I can think of right now

Here is something about opinions.

It's just a thought, and you dont have to like it or agree with it. You just have accept that it's my thought.

Just because mine differ from yours that one has to be right or one is wrong. Sometimes we are both wrong and sometimes we are both right. But we are both entitled to our opinions and actions.

I think it's wrong to try to change people's opinions about certain things. Please stay the facts, and let me form my own opinions instead of influential talk.

Sometimes I don't have to like your opinion, or should I have to explain why. "I don't like it" sometimes is the better way to approach things because it doesn't escalate into arguments.

If two opinions differ, they can still be both right. They can also be both wrong. Also, one could be right while the other is wrong.

A: Both right

B: Right and wrong

C: Wrong and right

D: Both wrong

Opinion existence is not correlated to validity of truth.

And Jay, saying "I don't like it" doesn't just not escalate arguments. It ceases communication completely, and THAT is the problem. Keep saying that and friends will be few.

We are going in circles Kyle.

I don't like shaking hands. It's one of things I shy away from. You don't have to agree with me or like it, you just need to respect my choice.

I don't like pulp in my juice. It's not juice in my mind. I don't care if you like it or if you dislike me because I don't eat pulp. You just have to understand its my opinion and it's my choice.

I don't believe in religion, and I dislike what it does to our society. But understand it's your choice and your opinion. I just have to respect your decision and your choice.

Some things just doesn't need to be debated. Like you said, we can be right and move on.

MMX is right, Jay is right.

There,

That should stop any argument. Hopefully.

Either that, or you both can now settle it on Xbox since you both have XBL accounts.

Euthanasia is a good thing, granted the patient is the one who wants it.

Fetuses that are going to have mental illnesses should be aborted.

Both for the same reason. Old bed-ridden people won't be able to contribute to society once they deteriorate to a certain point. They say suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. But with Euthanasia, the problem will never be resolved. the person will spend their life miserable and sponging up resources and medicine until they die.

With mental patients, it's different. Most of them can still contribute to society most of the time, so not ALL mentally ill children. But if you know your child is going to be a vegetable... well, I know you would still love it immensely, but you should take the responsibility of removing that burden from society for the greater good.

I was in a hurry so I apologize if I sound like hitler.

Most of the time, you don't know the child is mentally ill until after it is born.

Mentally ill is not synonymous with being vegetative.

Euthanasia is just a type of suicide, no different than the regular kind.

The problem is usually temporary, no matter the type of suicide.

Communication fosters understanding and respect.

Lack of it fosters ignorance, not acceptance.

Perhaps this thread should be locked.

All I have to say is, society can suck a dick.

EDIT: MMX, there has been no flaming really, I see no reason for this thread to be locked as of yet. I did, however, say people should keep the controversial subjects to a minimum. As long as people don't flame, this should be kept open.

No need for it to be locked, I think.

No real arguments yet.

I can see your thinking EJ.

On his notes, it is wrong in my eyes to keep a vegetable alive. Not because of society, because it doesn't seem right.
