We will probably never know for sure.

But one thing I'm surprised no one has mentioned is what if it is Lucifer? They say the devil could look like a man like any other. What if Lucifer was once in Richtofen's shoes???

Cucuy, Mictlancuhtli, Lucifer, Devil, Hades, etc.= same guy, different interpretation, by different people. They all can manifest in any form( the phantom, perhaps?)
