Multiplayer and Zombies revealed. NO LEAKS

Vonderhaar reveals multiplayer in demo, original site http://www.theverge.com/gaming/2012/5/2 ... in/2756745 contains images I am unable to link at the minute.

Multiplayer is set in 2025 exclusively. Game design director David Vonderhaar explains the decision was purely gameplay motivated.

He is incredibly careful not to reveal much of anything, speaking in vague, elliptical thoughts. They're planning to kill some sacred cows, he tells us, though he won't say which in particular.

One thing Vonderhaar promises is 60 frames per second.

"60 frames a second, whether you see it or not, you feel it," says Vonderhaar. "There's no hitching. It's that zen you feel when your brain feeds into the controller and back ... that's why 60fps is important to us."

We see two maps.

The first is on a small Yemen island called Socotra. It's reminiscent of the Modern Warfare 3 DLC map Piazza.

The houses are small and appear to be constructed from clay and stone, filled with dozens of electric fans to keep out the heat. Tight alleyways lead up and down the hilly terrain. A sneak-way grips onto the side of a cliff that cuts into the emerald ocean below. In the center of town is a tree that looks like this:

The complex shadows of the branches, we're told, couldn't have been rendered in the old version of the game's engine.

The other map is downtown Los Angeles following the single-player campaign's drone attack. On a street sign are the words Figueroa. This is literally where E3 takes place every summer.

The geometry is manic. The idea was for players to fight through a building that's been toppled over. It's like a vertical spin on Wall Street in Modern Warfare 3, filled with fire, smoke, sparks, rebar and thin streams of light.

There's parking lot, a garage, ripped up street, fire escapes, elevator shafts and flooded lobbies. Across the street are coffee shops, fountains and a two floor shopping area. It's incredibly intricate and chaotic, a flip of the serene Socotra where seagulls and waves could be heard in the distance.

DV mentions a focus on competitive gaming:

David Vonderhaar mentions e-sports. He says Black Ops for PS3 was on the Major League Gaming circuit, but at the time the team didn't fully comprehend the significance of competitive gaming. Now, Vonderharr says they find it amazing.

"E-sports is a big agenda for us," says Vonderharr. "More importantly, taking e-sports to the mainstream is a really key thing, but in order to do that you have to make the game fun to watch"

Zombies to use mp game engine:

Next-up, Zombies. Zombies will be the co-op mode for the game. The team insinuated that Spec-Ops and Survival will not be included.

For Zombies, there will be a new world and new modes. Lamia says in general, more isn't always better. Except with zombies. Fans always want more ways to play the mode, and Treyarch plans on giving them just that.

Summary:

-Multiplayer is set in 2025 exclusively.

-60 frames per second.

-Two maps shown:

-Small Yemen island called Socotra, tight map with path over a cliff.

-downtown Los Angeles, set where E3 takes place. Following the single-player campaign's drone attack, the map is diagonal movement over ruined buildings.

-E-sports will be promoted.

-Zombies confirmed.

-Summary:pec-Ops and Survival will not be included.

-For Zombies, there will be a new world and new modes.

-Zombies runs in the multiplayer engine.

Holy shit, a new WORLD?!

Okay so recap; the campaign is going to be set in the future as well as multiplayer. So basically we got a combination of what looks to me like Ghost Recon and Call of Duty combined, and then zombies is apparently going to quite literally, be out of this world.

Mind = blown.

I just hope the AI's were fine-tuned. I noticed they were either really dumb, or beast mode gunslingers, there was no in between. :D

I agree on this one, even when playing on recruit sometimes if you stepped out of a building the bots would just stand and stare for about 10 seconds before shooting and then other times you would step out and get absolutely annihilated... .

they said that wont be survivor niether spec ops missions on it, what i think they are going to do is make some kind of diferente gameplays like who gets more points till the game ends, survivor time, the zombies will come and come and never end the score will be the time surived, they will improve the AI of the zombies so they can flank you, should be games modes where you have to defend something, they wont attack the players, they will go straight tho their goal... something like this

and if they dont let the original mode together they will made a RUGE mistake

Guys, take a look at this "9. ZOMBIES ARE BACK

The fan-favourite mode will make a return, only this time it's running in the multiplayer engine. That means there will be a big upsurge in numbers when it comes to Black Ops 2's undead sub-game: the multiplayer engine can throw around twice as many shambling corpses at once, and it can handle a co-op tally double that of Black Ops 1's.

To maximise this increase Treyarch is promising new modes too. It's stopping short of specifics for now but say you can expect team games of some sort to feature in what's sure to be the most hectic take on the mode yet.

Last year, millions of people ended up buying the Black Ops 1 zombie-specific Rezurrection pack and Treyarch continue to be surprised and amazed by the demand for what was once little more that a whimsical bonus throwaway. Now that there's tangible evidence of that hunger in the form of actual sales figures, Treyarch have given their zombie team free reign to do pretty much whatever it wants with the mode, regardless of the direction the campaign is headed in. And given that Black Ops saw JFK battling undead forces in the Pentagon, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Freddy Kruger fighting George Romero in Siberia, and a zombie outbreak on the moon, our minds boggle at what could be in store next. Start daydreaming." looks like 8 player zombies is confirmed ;)
