Multiplayer suggestions

Recommended Posts

This is a mirror topic to Zombie suggestions where all your ideas for multiplayer can be placed together, this saves the forum from simmilar posts :)

To start things rolling I'll put my idea down:

All I want - and what many people I know from this site and from my area have expressed a desire for - is one thing, for the programmers to stop nerfing things because people complain! It is a fact of life that there will always be exploiters and there will always be people to cry about it :P An obvious example is MW3's infection mode, it was about a day or so untill I started seeing players camped on telegraph poles.

And the thing that made me laugh more was that the first update removed throwing knives as people trying to get MOABs complained about them, so then no one could kill these exploiters!

People will always complain, unfortunately for us as soon as Treyarch, trying to make people happy, remove these problems, these people complain about something else! how many players who complain use the words "CoD 4/5/any earlier edition was so much better"? Back then they still complained :D

YET obviously there needs to be game balance! At least a few complaints will always have a basis in truth, however many more are becuase the player is terrible or lags like myself 8-)

So to Treyarch I say when theres something to balance: improve, add on! Don't nerf everything! An example summarises my point simply:

Grenades in Call of Duty have become the laughing stock of FPSs, I remember seeing an image of Zakhiev from CoD 4, looking down sadly and below him it was encaptioned: "Back in my day surviving a grenade actually meant something"

Improving would be returning the use of scavenger on grenades and making them as strong as they realisticly would be (larger blast radius, more powerful), then also adding on more features onto them to keep the game balanced, i.e. extending the grenade timer before they explode. This would mean without cooking people would be more likely to throw back or escape it sucessfully, while anyone cooking would have to sit there unable to sprint or shoot for longer, making them more exposed! Another bonus this would have is that martydom would be balanced enough to be a good deathstreak, the only complaint people ever said to me was that if they didn't have enough time to run from a martydom death, well now with an extended timer you do! But remember it is now more powerful, so it wouldn't become worthless like half the deathstreaks nowdays :P

And don't forget semtex can also be improved! Make it have an increased timer as well, OR better would be to turn it into something equivilent to the sticky grenade from CoD 5, more powerful, but with a smaller explosive radius, so you have to be more accurate!

Another example is perks, I for one had no problem with Juggernaut or martydom, the only people I know who did also complain now about stalker and killstreaks! And the complaints in MW2 were based around Iinfinity Wards idea of having perk sets (eg: marathon, lightweight, commando class) which people claimed were overpowered. Isn't the solution obvious? Improve the perk class system rather than nerf all the perks! If we all say we loved CoD 4/5 (Which I and many I know do :D) then why are all the things that made it right being removed?

Improving the system: Take all the most powerful perks and put them in the same class so you can only choose one!

I.e.

Perk slot one: Juggernaut, Stopping Power, Sleight of Hand, Double Tap, Last Stand

Now you won't get people who take a lot of hurt then go into last stand when you have no ammo (that's not my complaint - one of someone I know :)), you won't get rapid fire, sleight of hand dudes with sub machine guns spraying everywhere or double tap stopping power decimators (again, I have asked a lot of people their views of what annoyed them rather than use only mine (which can be bias - I'm only human :D) or skim forums which could be full of trolls or griefers ;))

One last example I was prompted to say was that not only are people unhappy with grenade launchers being too powerful, they don't like them being unrealstic! (you can please some people all of the time... etc  ) An idea which I improved and added onto from CoD4's first perk slot (which were all equipment related) was a fouth perk slot; an 'equipment slot' here you can choose one thing from the list:

-Special grenades (you only normally start with lethals),

-Extra grenades (for both special and lethal - see below),

-Underslung attachment for either primary/secondary weapon (i.e. flamethrower, grenade launcher, masterkey etc),

-Ability to scavenge equipment and launchers (lethal grenades, launcher ammo (RPG, Strela 3/Stinger M203/GP25/rifle-grenade etc), special equipment, special grenades, etc simply anything that comes from this list + lethals) - obviously this only becomes available if you have scavenger as a perk :P,

-RPG/other launcher as third weapon (just like in CoD 4/5 ;) obviously they won't be selectable as a secondary! But let Treyarch deal with that, the idea of

using up an equipment slot to free up your secondary weapon would be cool, then you could have a strela for planes and an RPG/Javelin for protection or another secondary gun, also; possibly this could, if Treyarch bring it back, allow you to choose the flamethrower?,

-Specialist equipment (one thing like a claymore, bouncing betty, tactical insersion, motion sensor etc),

-Hardline style perk which increases number or killstreak options to 4 :D or a simmilar related idea

The clincher is that in every perk slot theres an option to choose annother equipment slot instead, so if someone wants to have a GL which they can scavenge they can, but then they only have two perks! And someone who really wants to be a lone wolf with equipment, special grenades and extra grenades will have no perks!

I am no FPS game planner, so if I can solve these problems I know Treyarch can blow us away with something like below, but with better perks, equipment slot ideas and overall better layouts! :P

This is a rough plan I came up with:

Equipment slot: Special grenades, Extra grenades, Underslung attachment for either primary/secondary weapon, Ability to scavenge equipment, RPG/other launcher as third weapon, Specialist equipment, Increase killstreak options.

1st Perk slot: Juggernaut, Stopping Power, Sleight of Hand, Double Tap, Last Stand, Hardline, Scavenger, Extra Equipment slot option.

2nd Perk slot: Flack Jacket, Danger Close, Overkill, Commando, Steady Aim, Lightweight, Gas Mask (not just nova 6 but also all other special grenades are negated.), Extra Equipment slot option.

3rd Perk slot: Bandolier, Eavesdrop, Ninja, SitRep, Stalker, Dead Silence, Toss Back (love it! and would be very helpful with improved chances to throw back and the increased grenade power.), Extra Equipment slot option.

Deathstreaks:

3 deaths: Juiced

3 deaths: Team Player (http://callofduty.wikia.com/wiki/Team_Player_(Perk))

4 deaths: Martyrdom,

4 deaths: Final Stand

5 deaths: Gain a perk/equipment slot (choose any one :P resets upon death if you get a kill),

5 deaths: Painkiller

6 deaths: Dead man's hand

And finally, instead of pro perks, when you have been awarded the challenge for a perk you can select it alongside a perk on the same slot as a 'pro' in itself, obviously it is a shadow of the full perks power, i.e. jugg increases health by half as much as the full, stopping power increases bullet damage half as much, sleight of hand only half as fast, scavenger only allows you to scavenge half as much ammo from each bag, gas mask only prevents nova6 etc.

Remember this is only unlocked once you complete award requirements (that previously gave you pro) for that perk then you would to maximise efficiency be forced to use another perk, which makes players end up using at least 3 extra perks they wouldn't have done before :D which makes the game les boring (i.e. I never see someone without sleight of hand on MW3 or black ops! This would change that) Also this means when someone wants to use two perks from the same slot (i.e. they want gas mask and iron lungs, now they get to have both or at least one and a half!)

NB: As pro perks wouldn't be here and so new perks would have to be invented to use their pro perk abilities, or bring back old perks which used their ability

(unless Treyarch decided to include pros after doing half that perks challenges then after all are done you get this).

I think deathstreaks shouldn't return but I had made this Killstreak 3.0 system idea:

The dream killstreak system for future Call of Duty games.

The new Killstreak system is consisted from two options: Classic and Specialist.

Classic:

Choose your 3 streaks from all of the killstreaks. Get enogh points to achieve the specific streak.

After getting all of the 3 rewards they reset so you can get them again with out dying.

Specialist:

Same as in Modern Warfare 3 get perks by getting points.

The core of the system:

Killstreak rewards will not stack (count towards next one) so getting kills with attack chopper will not give points towards next reward exept on special circumstances.

How to get points:

Kill: 1 point.

Flag capture (domination): 1 point

Flag capture (CTF): 2 points

Returning flag (CTF):1 point

Bomb plant: 2 points

Bomb defuse: 2 points

Killing bomb planter/defuser: 1 point + 1 point from kill.

Capturing HQ: 1 point

Destroying HQ: 1 point

Destroying enemy Killstreak: 1 point

If you kill bomb planter/defuser with killstreak you get 1 point!

Also if your killstreak destroys enemy killstreak you get 1 point, if we are going to see similar killstreak as harrier strike in (MW2) or Grim Reaper (BO).

This system will encourage the players to play objective and keep the game fast paced and still not having killstreaks devastating the battlefield 24/7

AND YOU KNOW THE IDEA IS GOOD WHEN PEOPLE STEAL IT!

Co-op campaign!

The reason less people played it was becuase there was little incentive, don't do what EA did with Battlefield where you unlock weapons, people will just play it to unlock them and won't play again, rather give continuous xp for completeing missions rather than getting kills etc, i.e. completeing a mission on co-op gives you n xp for multiplayer, then playing on increased difficulty gives a bonus multiplier, i.e. on veteran is 10n XP.

Similar to what Shoreyo said, I want to be rewarded in multiplayer for playing other modes. When I play zombies so much, I miss out on ranking up in multiplayer. If I were playing zombies, I would get a certain amount of XP per kill, revive, EE completion, round acheived, etc. It would be nice to get titles and emblems for playing zombies too. Hopefully it would get more people playing zombies and seeing how awesome it really is.

Personally, I'd like more... creativity. More fun! Maps that are as colourful as Nuketown work great, because they make a nice change from grey, and brown. I have an idea for camouflages. Instead of having set camos, you have a selection of patterns to choose from, and then you ajust the colours to whatever you like. That'd be great!

I agree, co-op campaign needs to return. They should have a playlist for each difficulty, and in the lobby you vote for the mission. And all rewards should benefit your multiplayer character in some way, but maybe not with XP cause then people would campaign-boost all the time. In-game, players who get killed will go into last stand mode, and if they're not revived in time they will respawn at the next checkpoint, and if all players die you all go back to the last checkpoint. I hated how in WaW if everyone died you had to start all over.

One little thing. NOO DEATH STREAKS.

They reward a player for being bad at the game. Just look at mw3 to get an idea of people playing badly, running into a good player but the "noob" getting an advantage.

Anuway, i alwasy liked with what they did with killstreak care packages in BO. You could get a weapon which helped and hindered you.

My thought would be the wonder crate. It would be delivered by a strike of lightning, and would contain either the wunderwaffe dg-2 with 6 ammo, the thunder gun with 4 ammo, or the ray gun with a single round (20 shoots). Each would be nerfed and have ita disadvantages but come on wonder weapons in multi. They would be a 8-9 kill streak.

I agree w/ u that death streaks are a big no-no, but I don't think they should include fictional wonder-weapons in multiplayer. It wouldn't fit right, b/c multiplayer is supposed to feel like real warfare, not a sci-fi adventure.

I agree with all your points, I also hated that when you all died :) but surely for the xp boosting prevention why not just find the average xp people earn per hour on mp and make the winning slightly lower, then it will be enough of an incentive if bored with mp, but not enough to take advantage of.

And @ Phill, my friend said the same thing on CoD6 while spawn killing with a chopper gunner ;) Remember that if they're constantly dying usually it because you're killing them a lot more than they're killing you :) It can balance unfair games as the one I described.

And of course the average pro gamer wouldn't complain about deathstreaks because they enjoy other people struggling while reaping xp now would they? [brains]

Here's an idea:

Lately, I have been punching my PS3 in rage of how broken Black Ops' multiplayer servers are. So much wasted potential here and there, but I'll cut to the point:

1) Give weapons balance! I've seen your multiplayer record Treyarch, and you're guilty of both the MP40 and the FAMAS. Give each weapon a purpose and therefore, a reason to use over the other available guns. It will then stop overcentralising one group of guns and add more variety to multiplayer.

2) Fix your damn servers! I am absolutely sick of the appalling state of the servers and how most of my games are completely ruined by them. Don't know what I mean? "CONNECTION INTERRUPTED"!

3) I will put my complete faith into Treyarch if this is employed. To put it bluntly: I don't like campers. No one does. They absolutely ruin the flow of the game and score high killstreaks by doing absolutely nothing. This decimates the fun in multiplayer, because I'm sick of having to throw a concussion over every corner I see, due to a possibility of someone with a suppressed FAMAS with ghost is sitting there, but here's my point:

I propose a report button, except it isn't necessarily. for a certain number of reports the player gets, they get a 'camper tag' placed on them, which lasts approximately a month. Just like the 'locale only or everyone' setting, place a similar one for these, where you can choose whether you want to be placed in a lobby where people with camper tags are allowed to play, or a lobby where they aren't.

I think I covered most of the issues. One more thing: Please make good DLC maps next time!

EDIT: Make the Spy Plane a 4 killstreak if you're keeping hardline in. A 2 kill support killstreak is ridiculous.

Campers are part of the game and you just have to know how to kill them.

Also as soon as a guy wins againt a party/clan or against unhappy players they would just all vote and give him this title out of scorn for beating them.

No offense but the reason so many of these faults you complain about are due to Treyarch/IW trying to make a game on negative feedback as this, why was the Famas so powerfull? Because all other tactics that combatted high RoF assault rifles had been nerfed down due to complaints.

If we just approached them with positive ideas as Gstroy did, building a balance rather than removing everything we could get somewhere..

n.b. People will always exploit. Remove one powerfull tactic people will do something else like dropshot, remove that and they'll think of something else to do to win. Nerfing never works against the ingenuity of obsessed players who want to win :)

I know how to deal with them, but the crappy servers don't update fast enough, getting me killed. That's why I made it optional. Campers completely sapped the fun out of me for Black Ops. They're usually easy to deal with, but for Christ's sake, they have their own perks in Ghost and suppressor!

Well, depends how people use it. If they can't be trusted with responsibility, it'll have to be removed. It'd make the game SO much better, because if the servers are as bad as they were in Black Ops, I don't want to deal with them. Black Ops was pretty much made for campers, which still saddens me to this day, considering Black Ops is the only COD game which has a multiplayer that's fun to play, at least in my opinion. Yes, because assault rifles are overpowered, meaning we need more balance. There are 31 guns in Black Ops, to which only four guns ever truly got used. My ideas weren't necessarily nerfing, if there was balance, there wouldn't need to be any nerfing! :V

Same here, balance them :) and do it well.

My main problem is lag but that's not Treyarch's fault :) But I do know that a lot of people lag far worse, mainly those in central Europe far from the majority of hosts in Japan and the US, so there has to be something to reduce the handicap it brings, all I can think of is a dedicated server search system, so you can order your options by ping, location or no. of players. But thats a prevention, not a solution...

Earning Experience in Single Player for Multiplayer from a Game Developers Standpoint is terrible. It opens up the possibility of people Hacking the game through Campaign just to get XP to level. In the end its not logical and is not worth it, I do understand the system but COD's Campaign really isnt meant to be played Multiple times so even implementing this type of system won't be worth it and would essentially be useless. I do on the other hand want the Death Cards to return, they made playing campaign much more enjoyable imo.

I know friends and family in Spain Aswell as in Germany and Russia and they always have great connections if they set it to 'Locale Only'. That way they aren't connecting to someone overseas but rather in their local region.

Remember that locale only works if you have server's nearby, in my area the local only doesn't work well, I have to search farther to find a game. Furthermore some people have strict NAT's which they are unable to open, enhancing this problem further.
