Amidst the dark and eerie night
A choice to make – to run or fight?
      The undead horde approaches fast
Armed with weapons, till the very last
In Call of Duty: World at War - Zombies
The battle for survival never ceases
A test of skill, courage and wits
As waves of zombies just never quits
Blood-soaked grounds and a burning sky
The stakes are high, the danger nigh
But in this game, we rise above
To conquer the undead with brute, tough love
With finger on the trigger and heart in hand
We face the terror, and take a stand
For in this game, we live or die
With Call of Duty: World at War - Zombies, we must survive.

    • TimeSplitters Rewind - the fan-made recreation of TimeSplitters 1, 2 and 3's multiplayer that's been in development since 2013 - has re-emerged with its first update video in over the year, offering a fresh look at the project and urgent calls for assistance as its developers find themselves in an "incredibly challenging space" due to the current state of the industry. The TimeSplitters Rewind team secured permission to create the multiplayer remake back in 2012, from then-rights holder Crytek UK. Since then, its volunteer developers have continued to plug away on the project in their spare time, intermittently offering video updates on its progress. The group's latest video update - the first since December 2022 - describes itself as a "candid discussion" about the project, mixing footage of its work-in-progress maps with a call for new development talent. "With the state of the games industry," explains narrator Jake 'The Voice' Parr (also project lead writer), "it has placed our developers into an incredibly challenging space where Rewind cannot be a focus for them. Whether that's dealing with potential layoffs, an increasingly difficult job market, or, in the case of TimeSplitters, some changes to the landscape of the IP." Read more View the full article
    • Certain Affinity - the renowned Texas-based support studio most recently reported to be working on a Halo battle royale project for Microsoft - has announced a round of layoffs, which will see 25 employees lose their jobs. CEO Max Hoberman confirmed the layoffs - which equate to around 10 percent of Certain Affinity's approximately 250 employees - in a post on the studio's website, explaining the cuts predominantly impact members of its business operations team. Those affected will receive severance pay and benefits continuation, as well as "vested awards under our Stock Equity Plan portable so they may benefit from the company’s success in the future". Hoberman added the decision to cut jobs - said to be the first time Certain Affinity has laid off workers in its 17+ year history - was a result of "multiple factors". "Most significant," he explained, "is an industry-wide slow down in the funding of new lead and co-development projects and the reluctance of third party investors to fund games or game companies. This has made it exceptionally difficult to sign new work or secure other forms of funding." Read more View the full article
