Point Hoarding Guide

I'm going to leave this here. Just my protocol for gathering points during early waves. It's actually very standard, lol.

WAVE 1

This is the wave most people botch by not thinking long-term. Some people botch it by being a selfish player and pinching every last kill they can, any way they can. In theory you get all the points and the most box hits the quickest, but in reality, you deprive the rest of your team of the points they need to support you and stay up to speed.

Wave 1 is so simple.

  • No Wall Purchases
  • No Grenades (Grenades diminish points received in these early, free'be rounds)
  • No rounds fired.
  • Kill every last zombie with Knife Strokes.

Stay clear of lava if possible, you don't need extra damage at close proximity. When moving in for the kill, always back up immediately afterward. If you come in too wild, it is possible to miss and get tagged with a one-two that will drop you on the spot. Very embarrassing. XD

Some people like to pepper the lower body with some rounds before the big knife kill to squeeze out some extra pointage. Please don't. Save those rounds for the next two waves to come, you'll need them.

Fixing windows is optional, I always between rounds for some extra points, or to keep a desired parking area controlled.

WAVE 2

This is when actual skill comes in for seasoned players.

  • No Wall Purchases
  • No Grenades
  • Using your Pistol: 2 rounds into the head, then a Knife Stroke.

Zombies actively standing over lava have reduced health, so less preemptive damage is required.

It's all about ammo conservation.

WAVE 3

This is when you'll notice that pistol just isn't quite what it used to be, but it's still a viable tool for the job.

  • No Wall Purchases
  • No Grenades
  • Using your Pistol: 3-4 rounds to the head, then a Knife Stroke.

Should you happen to be a horrible shot and run out of ammo just before the wave ends, you can use lava damage to aid in Knife Kills if you're nimble enough to avoid being tagged one too many times or taking explosive damage. Worst case scenario, park at the top of the Jugg stairwell, and lob grenades down, making sure they don't roll too far astray. But again, the use of grenades in early rounds should only be for emergency uses. I usually don't toss a single grenade before rounds 13+, there is literally no need.

You don't need a Box gun on wave 3, you want one. ^_^

WAVE 4

Starting to hate the feel of this Pistol in your hands? Hit the box if you haven't picked up a Max Ammo yet. And that's the key. Ideally Richtofen will gift you with Max Ammo some time before round 4 (this happens to me A LOT, usually from knife kills). If you have picked up a Max Ammo, you now have the option of going straight for Galvaknuckles. When I do this, I usually don't even look at the box until around wave 10.

From here it's really up to you how to proceed based on how things have played out in the last few rounds. About this wave most players have moved on to gun hunting.

I also buy the Simtex around waves 4-5 to avoid having to make the trip in deeper waves.

EDIT: I want to add that using this protocol to the letter, I get a top tier gun from the box within 2 hits, 9 times out of 10. Make of that what you will.

Anyone have their own procedure for point collection?

Yes it is made more difficult when playing with randoms, but it still serves me just fine. I'm still usually the first to get my set, first to pack, and leader on downs.

Just curious, what's the point of playing Coop if you behave as though you're on solo, denying your allies points they need to keep up as well? You sound like a Grief specialist to me. :P

Just started a custom games session, Town/Survival/Original/Hounds On. Got an early wave Max Ammo as described above. Just for fun I lobbed some grenades before hitting the box (the only variation from my method), and still got a Galil 1st hit, RPD within 4 hits. The Galil is my weapon of choice, okay? It's like my Excalibur. XD

4 Box hits, got my set within a 2 wave time frame. Now I can just fish for Monkeys in later rounds with some crawlers.

I will try to upload video to share.

This may sound cynical but when playing with randoms I have kind of given up on trying to force teamwork. It requires too much effort for it to usually fall upon deaf ears. Usually my online randoms games go like this-
Wave 1-5 I and someone else who knows what they are doing get most of the kills, open doors, get guns. The other two are noobs and one goes down.

By wave 10 the good player and I have perks and maybe a papped gun and we have tried to help the two noobs find jugg and a good wall weapon but they may just suck too bad.

By wave 20 the two noobs have downed so many times they have just quit and the good player and I finish it out and friend each other.

I had a guy once on the Giant not know how to play. like at all. He didn't know how to buy a wall weapon and had been running around with an empty pistol for a couple rounds.

I feel you. I have pretty much given up on trying to force a session to work as well. I park between the bar and Jugg building, more or less ignoring everything that goes on. I always make the mistake of going for the people who don't buy Tombstone, trying to heal them before they bleed out and lose their weapons.

But like on wave 1 when I hit around 1k I start leaving some zombies for players who aren't using their pistol or grenades to get some as well if I look and everyone else is still at 500 or bought a wall gun, or only got to 700, you know what I mean? After so long it's into more survival than point BS for me anyway, so I want these people, particularly the 'noobs' to have points to work with. I just want a game that gets near or over wave 20 on coop. No more than 2 people leave, it's not a shit show where one guy heals everyone until we all die, you know what I mean?

I'm tired of playing the matchmaking game, getting 4 people with a high enough icon next to their gamer tag who ready up, lol. I just want to play at this point.

I mean I don't even ask for much, give me 4 people who use Tombstone, lol. That's all I need to be happy.

EDIT: I also want to add that my little brother is a point pincher too. His ideology is that to let newbs waste points lowers the odds of anyone's survival. If you and I are the only 2 in the round who know what we're doing, we need those points to carry this round. And I do see where he's coming from, lol. I do make sure I get mine, lol.

Totally relate to this post. I mean, I'll co-operate when opening up the map and PAPing and stuff and I won't be totally selfish and I always try and make a revive where it's sensible or sometimes even if it's not as I like a challenge... but just like a real zombie apocalypse when you're teaming up with strangers, you've gotta look out for number 1 - your teammates will almost certainly be doing the same.

Public games are one of the occasions where I actually love Gobblegums. They allow me to become totally self-reliant when I'm in a lobby of newbs. There are gums which allow me extra points when newbies are 'nading my kills or getting nukes at inappropriate times and costing us all points. There are some maps where it's hard to get certain perks without co-operation from your team, and in times where people just can't seem to pull it together you can fall back on gums to get what you need. Self Medication makes for an equivalent to Quick Revive in solo, so on the rare occasion that I do go down, I'm not relying on anyone to revive me, and it also allows me to go for risker revives when newbs get downed in the worst possible place. Some could argue that it's ruined the teamwork element of the game, but IMO they're wrong - bad players and selfish players have always existed, and will always exist regardless of what changes come and go.

point hoarding guide with no mention of lining up zombies and using bullets to get multiple hits?

a.k.a. - you can get more than 10pts for each bullet. just sayin'

I would classify that as an advanced tip. When playing live with 3 others, it's not really going to work for one, also in the first 3 waves it will take time to heard them all together.

This is more a practical, fast method for gathering quick points.

I wasn't going to mention it, because this is my little secret and I use to ensure I get my points in those initial 3 waves, every time. I don't want everyone doing it, because then it's not my fail-proof secret, lol.

At the start of rounds, most players dash around wildly, making sure they cover ground, and get a piece of any action that is taking place in the main four areas. Others park by the spawn pits for easy knife kills.

I head behind the PaP machine, up to the corner where you can jump down next to Tombstone, or run along the barrier of cars toward the Olympia.

I stand there, on the edge, facing the PaP. One Zombie almost always spawns in the pit. I sprint over and knife him, returning to my position.

Sometimes more will spawn from the pit and I can take care of them. Sometimes one will drop from the wall by Double Tap, but the real trick is, usually at least 1, sometimes up to 3 will spawn up by Jugg, either dropping down from the roof, or breaking through that window in the corner.

9 times out of 10 I get these kills, on round 2 as well.

I ask only that people be discrete, lol. If you do this every single game with all your associates, everyone will know, and literally no one on 360 servers does this right now, lol.

Might not seem like that big of a deal, but it's a good way to tilt the spawns in your favor for those first 2 rounds. It can be dicey if the spawns don't come out in your favor at all, and people can still pinch your kills, but I've found it to be better than tripping over others for the same kills.

So I have adapted my co-op strategy since coming back. woj9000 got me thinking about wall guns.

My list of tasks in order of priority.

  • Jugg door (if not already open)
  • MP5
  • Jugg
  • Tap
  • Tomb
  • Pap (MP5)
  • Speed
  • Farm Gun #1
  • Pap Gun #1
  • Farm Gun #2
  • PaP Gun #2

Using the MP5, co-op is just so much easier. I kick ass with any fully automatic weapon, and I use controlled bursts at all times, so I can make the MP5 last, lol.

Now the only issue is other players putting thousands of points into the box, not even having a perk set by the time things start to get mildly intense around wave 13. I can't enjoy a round when everyone is struggling. I did a session earlier tonight with a few guys who had solid game, but dry humped the box up and down the map until wave 20 when I died trying to heal a guy in the Jugg stairwell, and the only remaining guy couldn't cope with the situation, tried the Jugg Street Train with PaPd default pistols, I had hope, but he just didn't have the conditioning to hold true to the route and got surrounded.
