The Flytrap

The story begins in the abandoned Wenceslaus mine near the big German City of Breslau. A facility called "Der Riese" was built here, named after the name of the project: Project Riese.

It was here where German scientists (from Group 935) worked on a top-secret German wunderwaffe called "Die Glocke", German for "the Bell", but also called "the Flytrap".

Because of lack of documentation, it is yet unknown what exact purpose the structure had, however we do know that it had to become some kind of weapon of mass destruction. Die Glocke is described as being a device "made out of a hard, heavy metal" approximately 2.7 metres wide and 3.7 to 4.6 metres high, having a shape similar to that of a large bell. The device contained two counter-rotating cylinders which would be "filled with mercury, violet in color".

The MTD in Call of Duty Zombies. It also includes the purple cylinders, as the description of Die Glocke

The device, when activated, had an effect zone extending out 150 to 200 metres. Within this zone, crystals would form in animal tissue, blood would gel and separate while plants would decompose into a grease like substance. This is why another name for it is the "antigravity-device".

It is theorized that this was also the true purpose of Die Glocke: To fly as some kind of UFO. The nazi's believed in the Vrill mythology, where there was spoken of flying pyramids, also known as Vimanas. This is also where the whole Nazi-UFO conspiracy theories come from.

Spoiler

Vimana's seen in the Shangri La, but also on the Moon loading screen. Unlike 935's Die Glocke, Vimana's are powered by Vrill force, instead of Element 115.

Dr. Richthofen used this principle to create the MTD. This device is capable of teleportation and time travel, by sending matter via the Aether to another place/time. The MTD runs on the mythical Element 115. It is also capable to teleport living beings (Fluffy) to the Aether. Another device running on 115 and made by the principle of the Flytrap is the wunderwaffe DG-2 (DG stands for Die Glocke). This weapon is used to kill living or dead creatures, and if you look to the iron point/end of the gun, it has the same mechanism as the top of the MTD.

What happened after the war with the Flytrap, is unknown. Some think it is transported to South-America. Others speculate that it was moved to the United States as part of a deal made with SS General. Another possibility is that the Sovjets took it, after liberating Eastern Europe including the area around Breslau. The Black Ops intel, however, gives us the information that there was a standoff between the Sovjets and Americans who took the Nazi-tech at the Der Riese facility. Both ended up with the knowledge of the Flytrap. As a result, the US creates the atomic bomb (Manhattan DOWN!) and the teleporters in the map "Five". Behind the barrier left of the AK-74u wallweapon, the mainframe of a German MTD can even be spotted.

The Sovjet Union create the Tokamak, a device very similar to the nazi's antigravity device. These days more countries have created their own versions of the Tokamak, with as biggest flagship the ITER, a international Tokamak built in France.

A Tokamak

You see that white circle in the middle blue panel? I think that is a Tokamak, or perhaps a more specific Tokamak: Maybe the Casimir Mechanism is a Tokamak, some kind of Flytrap

As said before, the element Mercury is used inside Die Glocke. In a Ascension radio, dr. Gersch talks about "project Mercury, or as you call it, the Gersch-device". Apparently is the Gersch-device, the device which make zombies disappear, teleport Gersch in the Aether and teleports the player to another location in the map, made by the ideas of the Flytrap.

So, as far as we now know, Die Glocke has different effects: Floating Objects (Flytrap), teleporting matter from location and time (MTD), teleporting matter to the Aether (Gersch device and MTD and destroying things (DG-2). It even had the splitting of the universe up into different universes (multiverse) as a reaction. But there are still many questions: The MTD in Groom Lake? The Flytrap on the Nuketown loading screen? The true meaning of the device?
