I'm assuming no Civil P. But what about the Apothicon Servant? Logic would tell me no.. But I seem to remember it being allowed in a previous challenge.

Actually yes, you can use those. Ammo becomes a constraint though, and with CP, well...going down at the wrong time can certainly break you.

Also, registration is up for the month of May! Get yer fill in, as we've opened the tournament up to the Reddit community:

I honestly hate the shadows map, so since im kind of out of it already, and after dying about 10 times in a row on the same wave, im prob just going to submit my pathetic finish already haha.

In 8 hours?! wow that filled fast. Good thing half the people who signup don't even do it lol. First on the wait list here. Where ever advertised you should stress that being in a waiting spot is fine.

Haven't tried Shadows yet.

I'll be on vaca for the last week in May and get back with one day to do it haha

For those wanting to see other people's runs, my youtube is in my sig

In the rules he called out no swords so I would assume that things like that he did not mention are allowed.

I am not confident I will get far enough to get those lol

Lol I'm thinking the same thing. But if you make it far enough to get the CP it would be that much easier to take out the margwa! Haha

Until there are multiple ones and a good horde stopping you in yor paths. :tounge_wink:

And yes! Even if you're on the waiting list, I'll allow it to be opened up for all slayers come time for the first challenge. I only had a limit in case we had extras/no-shows.

In a wild turn of events, @sushine1 takes the lead of the month with a whopping 31 rounds on this challenge, bringing him to the top of April as the Champion! Congratulations bud - just make sure you keep that crown well-polished until the Olympics in August, yes? Here is his length but incredible feat on the challenge:

Running up right behind him, we got WAK_Fury with a 1 point difference. In 3rd, @ruskinhood clings on to hopefully keep his spot in the Olympics! @andydabeast gladly accepts the wildcard, despite already being a previous Champion.

I want to point out that is is currently NOT yet April 30 at 11:59 pm PST.  I was not planning on doing the SOE challenge but I was really busy so if I was, I would be doing it right now. We need to stick to what you specify the schedule is, and keep it consistent.

Good luck everyone for May!

Whoops! I had meant to put it as April 29th, not the 30th, as we always have the deadline right when Sunday begins. I must've been looking at the wrong month. Apologies!

No worries!

The points are now by a 1-point increment, with 1st getting 4 pts, 2nd getting 3, 3rd getting 2, 4th getting 1, and anyone lower getting 0. So if you score the highest number of rounds in this challenge, that nets you 4 pts. Should you get 3rd in the next challenge, that nets you 2 pts and thus you now have 6 tournament points total. This creates more competition and makes it well-adjusted for skill matchmaking.

The original problem was that we had it set to rounds as points and thus it was possible for one person to dominate a challenge by X amount of points and then never play again, yet still win the month's tournament.

There are pros and cons to each style.

Tourny style is better because each week challenge is weighed the same. For example, if one week is starting room challenge and the next is wall weapons only, the winner of each may get 12 waves and 37 waves respectively, but despite the massive difference they are both awarded 4 points.

Round tally style is better because you are rewarded for winning by a large margin. I beat second place by 10 waves on one week but I still only got 4 points. The month I won it was essentially because of the last challenge being a high wave challenge.

I still think tourny is best. Just for fun, let's see the April results as if it were round tally style. In () are the tourny placements. It does change things up for first and second place.

andy        72       fourth (4)
limetiger    50
sushine    103     second (1)
jbry        63
fury        108     first (2)
rusk        86      third (3)

Yes, unfortunately, each setup has their strengths and weaknesses. The Ancient Trials is meant to mimic the Zombies Olympics but not exactly. In the past, we had divisions for challenges based on platform and game modes instead of categories (High Round, Starting Room, etc). This was because we had an overflow of slayers signing up, but exponentially less actual people submitting their videos. Thus, there would be like 50 people in pre-judging and then somehow 12 on the first challenge; they simply stopped caring.

But I may take this option into consideration, so there's a public pool and then Champion pool. That way, we can have open divisions tourney-style where players can choose which class they want to go in. For example:

Players A, B, C, D enter the public pool.

Players E, F, G, H are Champions and thus go into the Champion pool.

Players A & D choose the Starting Room division.

Players B, C, and D choose the Powerless division.

Players E & G battle while Players F & H battle in the Champion division.

Note how Player D was able to compete in two divisions. Like the real Olympics, players may choose to enter specific divisions as long as they are in the correct league. In our case, there are two leagues: the Slayer League and the World Championships League. Only Champions are allowed in the World Championships League, and only non-Champions are allowed in the Slayer League (to avoid unfair matchmaking).

With points, that's when we full enact the tourney-style. This will divvy up the scoring to become fair and adequate based on the challenges. The Ancient Trials, however, combines everything into one so every player has a good grasp and understanding of how each challenge mode works. This is why the monthly tournaments are set up as such.

The Arena will be an online coliseum designed for slayers from all universes to compete against one another. With the integration of the Keeper Trials, codenamed "The Ancient Trials", challenges will be held either weekly or bi-weekly in the span of one full "season" (8 months). Players who prove themselves to be among the best of the best will be selected to compete in our famous Zombie Olympics.

Ancient Trials Champions

Current Challenge

How It Works

Every month will include its own tournament bracket, with 4 rounds pertaining to 4 weeks in a given month. The overall winners of the monthly tournaments automatically advance into the Olympics, as they have "clinched" their division. Imagine it just as a regular sports season if you will.

After the season has finished (which will be around the end of August), the Zombie Olympics will be underway in which 32 overall winners will compete to the death to prove their dominance in the Aether. This isn't any vague woo-ooo-oo tournament...we're talking about the big show. The Olympics will be live broadcasted on the CoDz Twitch page for the world to see, along with a special large grand prize for the champion of the realm.

*Note: It is possible that a wildcard may advance into the Olympics if a clinched player does not appear in time for the final tournament. In that event, more information will be disclosed on how to advance.

The match system in all tournaments is Swiss style - meaning there is no elimination if you lose a match. Your score is recorded as a W/L ratio against everyone in the month.  The objective is to hold more wins against all your fellow slayers...so get used to making frenemies.

Prizes & Rewards

What good tournament/challenge doesn't have some form of reward system? As part of the CoDz initiative, the Ancient ones have graciously decided to give tournament leaders prizes for their hard-earned wins leading up to the Zombie Olympics, which may include (but are not limited to):

  • click?format=go&jsonp=vglnk_146503056368250 Divinium per overall tournament win
  • Xbox / Playstation / Steam gift cards
  • Exclusive Zombies merch not available in the Divinium Factory
  • Special forum medal showcasing you're a winner of the Keeper Trials
  • [REDACTED] for winning the Zombie Olympics
  • ...and much much more!

For more information regarding how Divinium works within CoDz, click here.

Registration

Rather than text-submitting your application, we will now utilize Challonge - a tournament platform designed with the gamer's interests in mind. All challenges within the Ancient Trials, including the Zombie Olympics (as well as other monthly tournaments), will be held on Challonge and require signing up...but don't worry: it's easy and free to register.

Click here to sign up for the Ancient Trials

Once you've registered, your stats will be recorded against other slayers in a race to win special prizes from challenges and tournaments, including Divinium, gift cards, free Zombies memorabilia, and much much more! What is there to lose other than your soul?

Tournament Specifics

As of right now, the tournament (and this challenge) has begun. To keep track of participants, use this link to see each player standing. Although the current system on Challonge states that players will go up against one another, scores will actually be inputted based on highest round/score obtainable throughout each challenge. The stats on Challonge are not reflective of true scores - they are only to show how many participants have entered and what they scored in.

Scoring System

Welcome to Merciless Mode, where the scoring of each challenge is vastly different compared to the previous months. In Merciless Mode, players are ranked against one another instead of round variance. This means the top slayer of a challenge will receive a score of 4, the 2nd top slayer a score of 3, so on and so forth. This is to test the true mettle of each slayer instead of allowing one slayer to dominate a challenge and then still win the month despite a poor performance in other challenges.

Here is an example:

  • Player A (R14) - 4pts
  • Player C (R11) - 3pts
  • Player D (R6) - 2pts
  • Player B (R5) - 1pt

To see the true results of each tournament, use the following link(s) below:

Ancient Trials February 2017 Tournament

Ancient Trials January 2017 Tournament

This spreadsheet will display each player's scores per challenge, and also include the Top 3 slayers of the monthly tournament. Use this as your reference for overall scoring, not the Challonge brackets.

To submit your results, please click here to complete the submission form.

Before you jump into your first (or next) challenge/tournament, there are a few things you should know about the Arena. Unlike most match systems, our competition setup scores in real-time, which means you can see who moves up in the ranks, whose group takes the lead, and where each slayer stands in the entire challenge. Now that’s what we call omnipotent.

Alongside the new battling experience, we’ve also included new modes of challenges with fan-favorites such as:

  • Blitzkrieg (new!)
  • Starting Room
  • Russian Roulette (new!)
  • Team Deathmatch
  • Hunted (new!)
  • Powerless
  • …and many more!

An example of the live broadcast of a typical challenge would be as shown below:

http://challonge.com/codz_holiday_blitzkrieg

Rules/Guidelines

As is with any universe, there are certain rules that every survivor must adhere to in order to ensure balance within each universe – the same follows for the Arena. Every rule must be complied with regardless of any challenge or tournament a player participates in. Failure to comply will result in tournament suspension, and possibly the heavier consequence of a permanent ban from the Arena. Gasp!

Registration

  • All players must register within the Arena website in order to compete in any specific challenge. You may also register on Challonge as well, if you wish to receive instant updates on scores and tournament specifics.
  • Substitution from another competitor is prohibited during active challenges. For example, you cannot have another slayer play under your name while in the middle of a challenge.
  • Register with integrity. The worst thing you can do is sign up as someone else as a joke, only to have your winnings go to them.

Code of Conduct

  • Bribing/begging/harassing another player or staff member is prohibited. (Bribing, really??)
  • All discussions – both in-game and on the site – are to be civilized. Profanity and smack talk is allowed with self-control.
  • Any form of cheating, whether glitching/hacking/modding/exploiting of any game mechanic where unintended within the game, is strictly prohibited and will result in an immediate casting into the Aether.
  • Extra rules will be supplied at the announcement of each challenge, and must be adhered to whereas not stated in these set of general guidelines.

Winnings

  • Winners of specific challenges with grand prizes are permitted to one prize unless conditions state otherwise.
  • Players who are overall winners of a challenge and/or tournament must fulfill the required information correctly to ensure they receive their winnings.
  • Bartering with other players for prizes within the Arena is not allowed.
  • Any prize won will be delivered to the given email/address presented to the staff by the player. The Arena and CoDz staff is not responsible for any stolen/lost/damaged prizes upon reception.

By registering for the Ancient Trials now on Challonge, you are taking your first step to securing a better tomorrow...even if there are still a few days before the new year comes.

Can you use the VR-11 on George or not?

I got a lot farther than I thought I would. Man waiting for that pap machine is annoying. How is everyone doing?

Also, hypothetical question, What if my a random stoke of luck everyone plays and submits. The 16 in actual spots and the 4 on the waiting list. If a waiting list person scores high enough to podium, do they bump out someone?

Yea I'm already in the Olympics so I would rather play with friends. Prolly all my scores will be first attempt from here on out. I don't like playing BO1 zombies solo. When are we going to play BO2 maps? @InfestLithium you do know that Black Ops 2 exists right?
