ZNS Scrap of paper hunt board!

Apart from the ones scrapped off the numbers highlighted in white are pretty easy to read. Different story for the other ones haha.

Right now I have no idea what all the numbers mean.

Maybe we need the other scrap paper to understand?

Last night I formed all the scraps very quickly to see what it looks like, then drew it out. Can't be bothered to make a proper picture just yet because two of them are in areas that you can't reach in theater mode properly

I've gone through with the cipher with the numbers and tried to map out a possible graph of it. I'll attach that and then I also tried to jot down all the numbers, so I'll attach that as well. I was hoping to make more progress on it myself, but figured we could probably all make progress on it much faster!

These are probably not all accurate as the image is hard to see.

Also, the image is thanks to @Draz I believe. I think that was his watermark in the middle. d:

Damn that's a lot of arrows. My eyes can't quite recognize the order that you've drawn but if I have free time I could just go over the numbers and check if they are right, and trust in your order :P

Also, I could upload the picture somewhere else than Imgur for better quality, what would be a good site?

There is a option on imgur to upload high quality in settings (sorry if you have already done this and still bad )

That sure was a lot of work...the only thing i thought was pollux (morsecode cipher) (key needed)

It still could be a sort of ascii... or a "simple" substitution (number 5 =e and bigger numbers like 44 you need the "letter word worth" "buchstabenwortwert" in german - dont know how it called in englisch..but i will look for it at the weekend

Thank you for the transcription

Do you think the background matters much? Because I could just go over all the numbers in Photoshop and write over them with a clear font.

Edit: Cubeupload is supposedly lossless quality so here's the same picture http://cubeupload.com/im/QA2O2B.png

if its that easy for you yes pls.. there is a number which you can barely see but not read it clearly because of the "lightreflection"

Its under

"230,369,242"

**********   《《《《

"88,44,123"

Someone can see this?

Maybe we need to seperate them in two groups - black and yellow.... i hope you know what i want to say ?

It's 223, 992, 614, 422. Now that I've been writing these, I've noticed there are a lot of identical lines of numbers. So that's a big help when you can't quite see the numbers. I'm actually almost done writing these out so check back soon for a new image :)

Edit: i misread - you pointed this out before so

So we need to do frequency analysis of the numbers... but thats a lot of work

Edit2: i said "letter word worth" before

I found it in english

Its called word value

At first this may look like a jumble of numbers but if you look carefully you'll see each line has their own space and you should be able to seperate them from other lines. Oddly enough some single numbers like "1019" have a comma (,) at the end of them, not sure what's the deal with that. I tried looking already but if you find any numbers I haven't written please tell me and I'll fix it

Edit: Text file of every line added below image

Now does anyone know how I could make a text file of all my Photoshop text layers?

Wow... nice work

Now you see easy that there are line multiple times - e.g. 24,77 i habe seen 4 times without really searching for it

@Nieno69 do you think we should get a frequency analysis of each line, for example "206, 717, 929" or every set of numbers like "206", "717" and "929"? I attached a text file into my previous post with every line of numbers and ran a frequency analysis here http://www.online-utility.org/text/analyzer.jsp

This page shows every set of numbers instead of the line, so "206", "717" etc.

In the meanwhile, I'm looking for the second scrap papers. There're 5 parts, right?

1 - Underwater near the green 115 water

2 - In the Docks

3 - Near the box location near the propeller trap.

4 - On the bench in the "secret room"

5 - Where the last part?

I wonder, can we move freely in the secret room with the theater mode when you're in it?

  • 3 weeks later...

I have a clearer image of the cipher in the bunker - I'll double check tonight to see if I can get a better image of the Dragon room piece, but last time I tried it doesn't allow you to move. But I may be able to go into third person to get a better view.

Also, good job @Draz on that transcription! (: It looks really great! I think since we have pairs of numbers [N, M, O] (where these represent numbers) it would be nomenclatures for those pairs. We would still have a lot of ciphertext with this approach.

My other thought is that this and the other scrap is connected... But since (I think) this is the first time we've had two scraps of paper on a map, it's likely they could be separate. I haven't had too much time to work on this, but hopefully I can get to it soon!

Good job to everyone who has found and worked on this! Kudos to you!

EDIT: I went through and added the frequencies of the sequences. This makes me think that these could be words (Based on their freqs) and that the numbers are nomenclatures for letters. This is similar to the cipher in DE, but in this case we do not have a chart to go off of. But, we can perform "letter" (number) frequency on these and distribute accordingly. The catch to this will be that some letters will reoccur more than once, so they will have multiple numbers associated with them. This will be more tedious than difficult I think. I'll start on parsing your text file, @Draz, and seeing how many times each one appears. Since we have so much, we should get a pretty clear frequency graph. Once I figure out how to upload things, I'll add my text file.

EDIT2: I've finished it: Letter Frequencies

I've created a Google Sheets for anyone interested in seeing what has been done. There are 266 unique characters, which isn't a bad letter count for a homo-phonic cipher, I believe. I can't tell if @Draz missed any pairs when going through it, so I may go back through just to double check.

We have the "Character" or the number that corresponds to a character in the far left column, the number of times it appears, the percentage of its appearance based on the entire text and finally speculative values for what they could be. The I/ A's are the only possible values for these because they are single without and commas. That is, if we are going under the assumption that words are divided by lack of commas. And this is going from @Draz's transcript so it could be that there is a comma joining these that I am not aware of.

So what I am doing now is going back through to find a path through the numbers and making some guesses at specific letters. I believe I left a frequency of the "words" that appear, which will be good in possibly figuring out potential 4-letter words: https://www3.nd.edu/~busiforc/handouts/cryptography/cryptography%20hints.html

Glitching Queen posted on Reddit the HD scraps images - Figured we could spark some more interest in this with better images.

I just noticed this, but if you look at the breaks in the background you can see 8 columns. Not sure if this is useful, but some people were commenting on the post saying it could be Gel Electrophoresis and it is pretty clear they were correct. I'm reading up on it now and seeing what it could have to do with the numbers.

Fairly sure the background could potentially be either DNA for a zombie or DNA for a spider. I'm leaning towards like a virus or something that shows up in an infected being's DNA.

I can't confirm right now, though it looks correct... Odd why they gave us so many repeating numbers and a lot of numbers just for the middle part... But I can't say that it isn't right. It's quite an interesting quote!

EDIT: removed.

EDIT2: I think what he did was take any number within the comma delimited numbers and just went up with them. Very interesting cipher - I think it is correct though. I got "... Maxis" so I assume the rest is correct. I will double check later though.
