I know it's 2014 and all and we are taught not to see color, but come one man Russman is black and the thief is white as paper. :p

Agreed, very far from similar.

 

 

Not much is known, but I always believed he was just an American scientist that went mad from 115 exposure and released all the zombies and crawlers (probably controlled by Samantha being the more 115 you're exposed to, the closer with the controller you get).

 

 

To me, he is nothing more than a catalyst for the events that lead up to Five.

I agree with this as it seems like a better answer but I think he was part of the teleporters creation which got him stuck in between the portals. I don't think he looks anything like Russman lol
