I did the easter egg on solo on COTD. So by rights I did give Richtofen the rod. Why does it have to be multiplayer?

I dont quite understand why

I am playing zombie map Moon with a friend who has not completed any of the EE. I have completed them all and when the game starts and I am Richtofen I only spawn with the focusing stone. Shouldnt I have the rod? Is it because I have only done the ensemble cast EE on solo? Does my friend need to complete one of them? When I start games with other friends who have not done any of them and its more than 3 in the party someone always gets the rod but never me. This is starting to get very frustrating. Please help.
